At 19:30 you can see the bungie 7 insignia/7th collumn. If you take a bombtender dare core from the beginning of a cabal run and throw it at the thin shaft at the top a beam comes down through it and it resembles a classic halo beam tower firing, and to top it off above it are 2 contrails that remind the player of a halo ring outline. 😇

You missed my favorite. The name of the grenade ability on the forerunner is "the rock" in reference to a cut scene with johnson in halo 2 where he says "When i joined the corps, we didnt have any fancy schmanzy tanks. Golden tricon is a reference to Halo’s golden triangle which was a rule of the 3 core parts to win a fight gunfire, melee, and grenade. That’s why golden tricon gives you damage buffs for each one giving a 3x stack if you get a kill through all three.

Hey Evan, along with the armor, I believe the warlock arms are a reference to the arbiter's armor from halo. It may not be exact but it looks pretty close. as well as the halo ring as the class mark. Also golden tricorn is also a reference to the golden triangle from halo

Apparently Evan missed a TON of details in the video so I'll just comment them here as I see them.
The Tigers are so referenced in Destiny because the engine is called the Tiger Engine, also I don't know if it was a joke but apparently a Tiger Race was supposedly worked on before D1's release.
Also worth mentioning here, as it isn't mentioned in the video. Pathways into Darkness wasn't just "trying to be DOOM", it was making a 3D engine from scratch on the Mac with different tech than that seen on DOOM, and it got praised for it's role playing aspects.
The Birthday Blade finisher is a reference to how the Arbiter attacks enemies while playing singleplayer Halo 3
The GJNKR ornament isn't a reference to 343i's SPNKR, it's a combination reference to Halo CE's SPNKR Rocket Launcher, which is also kind of a reference to Marathon's SPNKR Rocket Launcher. Also, the design in Destiny looks a lot like the 1999 Mac World version of it.
Master Chief's pod (in the Forerunner quest) is not only his pod, but his pod after Halo 3's ending.
Blunt Execution Rounds also spells B-Ex-R. He mentioned why in the weapon name part but I thought this was a neat touch that he missed.
The """Bungie Seven Insignia"""" is the Seventh Column logo. It represents both Bungie's "7 Steps to World Domination" and an "underground secret army" that they have.
Just a correction, "This cave is not a natural formation" is said in Halo CE's second mission, not the first one.
Dead Man's Revenge is also the name of a 1994's Western movie, continuing Bungie's tradition of referencing Western movies through Tex Mechanica guns.
The "Pink Mist" thing was, since the Halo medal name, a reference to The Godfather, as in the book (trying to not spoil it) someone gets shot in the head and it's described as "only leaving a pink mist". Of course, also a reference to how the Needler literally leaves a pink mist after a supercombine. Also, I don't know if this was what he meant but The Needler takes 7 needles to supercombine, not 5.
The Golden Tricorn isn't a reference to Destiny's Logo, it's a reference to the Design Philosophy that ruled over Halo's combat, the Golden Triangle, referencing how the 3 pillars of combat should be Weapons, Melee, and Grenades (the 3 things that make the perk do more damage).
The Wastelander-M5 is a reference to Marathon 2's WSTE-M5 shotgun.
The Ragdoll emote is a clear reference to Halo CE's death animation while in the air. Even the flavour text says "If titans could fly", Titans being the closest match from guardians to spartans. Also didn't get mentioned.
The Half-Truths Sword is named like that after the Prophet of Truth from Halo.
The Halo-like skulls in the Valley of Eternity pop up flavour text, unlike what Evan says, the flavour text doesn't reference Halo Skulls, it references other Bungie games. The Tank from ancient arid war is for Operation Desert Storm, Legendary Maze is for Minotaur, Speak to the dead is for Pathways into Darkness, Durandel was laughing is for Marathon, Fallen Lords is for Myth, Dark future, Uncertain past is for Oni and Nimbus that blinds you is for Halo.
The Shattered Sinew shader references Halo's Honor Guards, Burnished Reed references Master Chief's colour scheme, and Smudgepot adds Seventh Column symbols to certain weapons/armour.

He also didn't know there's an XBR55 variant in Halo: Contact Harvest. Also that the BXR-55 isn't just the Battle Rifle from halo, but the BR55 in Halo 2 and 3 instead of the BR85N in Halo's 4 and 5. Bungie REALLY put a lot of thought into this gun when bringing it over.
Also my personal favorite: the Sidearm smackdown finisher is a reference to Halo CE's Mangum melee animation

The text using the Ragdoll emote is a great reference to Sgt. Johnson's line from Halo 2 when the Chief gives the Covenant back their bomb.
    "'Guardian' flies like a brick..."
"For a brick... he flew pretty good!"
    -Sgt. Johnson

  • @RetroLaserbeak
    @RetroLaserbeak 3 ปีที่แล้ว +15

2 more references to throw on the pile:
The icon for the Magnum Opus quest / the Forerunner's perk (the eagle w/ the Seventh Column) is a reference to the UNSC logo.
The icon for the BXR-55's frame is a reference to Misriah Armory, the manufacturer of the Battle Rifle in-universe.

There was one ornament that was a nod to Pathways Into Darkness, its the Cedar and Ash. Its supposed to reference an item from the game called the Cedar Box, which allows you to regenerate any type of ammo in the game by putting one type inside the box and letting time pass. It's practically mandatory in order to finish the game normally, since by the time you get it, there are almost no ammo pick ups left in the game.

So, Bungie was kind of an entity all my life that I never knew was interconnected until much later. When I was growing up, my parents Macintosh computer came pre-loaded with Myth (Myst? I forget) but it was rated M, so I wasn't allowed to play it, and it was the late 90's and my dad thought every computer game would give you a virus. Me, the little shit I am, played it anyway, but I was too young to figure anything out, just pointed and clicked around a little. Halo was, to say the least, a monumental occurrence for me and my friend group of 4. It was perfect for LAN, Co-op, and just classic splitscreen slayer. Later on I played Marathon: Durandal because it was on Xbox marketplace and cheap AF and looked like a Doom kind of game. Later on I would realize that all of these were Bungie creations, it's kind of like a little "Life Easter Egg", they just always have kind of shown up in my life whether I've known it or not lol

    Something else about the Tigers:
    - back when Destiny was supposed to be a fantasy game, there was a race you could pick called "Tigerman" which was cut by the time it became a science-fantasy fps
    - the engine D1 and D2 runs on is internally called the "Tiger engine" (source: th-cam.com/video/UU92a5pKV6k/w-d-xo.html )
    Other references missed:
    - the mutator names for Dares of Eternity such as:
    - MA-75 Multipurpose: increased AR and Grenade Launcher damage; a reference to the Marathon assault rifle MA-75 which had a grenade launcher
    - Durandal's edge: gives intrinsic Surrounded perk for all sword users; references the Durandal AI from Marathon which itself is named after a sword of Charlemagne (bungie had a long history of naming AI's after swords, like Cortana; likewise in the early D1 days fans theorized there would be a reference to the "Joyeuse" sword because the early storyline wanted the Warmind to be named "Charlemagne")

Dude you fumbled the "cave is not a natural formation". It wasn't for the cave in the magnum quest, it's about the loot cave in the new dungeon, when Wilhelm says "this is just a normal looking cave" in the first audio log, despite the cave being created when the colony ship collapsed on top of it. I recommend Myelin's video on the dungeon curse.

Another subtle one. Breaking Zydrons shield. Xur has a chance to say: “Conclude the Fight” which is literally just a different way of saying “Finish the Fight” as in the iconic halo 2 line and halo 3 tagline.

Surprised you didn't notice the names of the modifiers in Dares of Eternity.
They even have unique symbols(?) that are nods to Halo as well as other franchises.
One of them is "I don't keep it loaded" which is bonus sidearm damage. Which is a nod to Halo CE's first mission when you get the magnum from Captain Keyes.
The current modifier is "Durandal's Edge" which is a Myth reference.

    What you missed:
Golden tricorn is also a reference to the "golden triangle" of halo combat, grenades, melee, guns.
The magnum perk "the rock" is also a reference to this in a slightly less obvious way, being the rock in rock paper scissors which is a comparison often brought up to the halo golden triangle.
The BXR frame icon is the symbol for the manufacturer of the battle rifle in halo. The description of the BXR is in reference to halo esports having BR starts.
You also shouldve mentioned the specific references to each skull instead of just "theyre the halo 3 skulls" which is obvious.
