    William I watched your video yesterday after a you tube search. Was having the same problem. I changed the cap, rotor, ht leads and spark plugs. Running absolutley beautiful now. Thank you for the video.

    I haven’t had the best experience with those powerspark distributors. I ran one for a while but before I had even hit 500 miles the car developed a nasty flat spot with power dropping off at the top end. When I checked the ignition timing I found that the static was still correct at where I had set it (10’ I think) but the dynamic was wrong with the distributor failing to advance anywhere near enough. I swapped it with one from Minispares which solved the problem. Not sure what the issue was but something inside the dizzy had clearly broken down. I kept the electronic ignition module though-they are ace little things. Loving the videos William-thanks for taking the time to share them.

      yes 100% i will have to wait for payday to get some ordered up. in the defence of the original item that was installed the week before my wedding and that was 6 years ago last month.
      some parts i think have just been rushed to get them built and sold unfortunately.

    William, Nice easy fix. The sprung carbon pick up or jammed one in your case does seem to be a common problem with
    minis, Maybe it‘s just me but it does seem the quality of parts for minis seems to be getting worse. Cheers Dave

      yes i agree with you there, some parts are made very poorly lately.

    I have tried everything!
    Setting static timing properly,
    New coil fitted,
    New distributor installed and setup,
    4 brand new spark plugs,
    All earths seem ok,
    Gaps and points all fine on distributor :(

    • @WilliamMurfitt

      Well as you saw while at the imm it likes to rain the in UK, so I think the electronic ignition works wonders..

    hi william , good video but just a quick point did you check the spark plug gaps before fitting the plugs as an incorrect plug gap can have an adverse effect on the way the engine runs

    • @WilliamMurfitt
      @WilliamMurfitt  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very good shout :) I'll whip them back out and check them, do the gaps differ from 998 & 1275?

    Might be worth carrying a spare coil if you already haven't. The new 'Lucas ' coils don't last at all. Been through lots.

    Duuuude, pls help me!
    My mini sprite 1000cc when in idle the rev starts to get unstable floating crazy up down, but the engine doesn’t stalls.
    And only start to happens after driving around 20 min.
    When this happens I release the advanced timing vacuum line and it’s runs idle normally with a bit revs pitching up.
    When I put the vacuum line back then the revs lowers down and begins unstable again.
    Any clue!??

    • @WilliamMurfitt
      @WilliamMurfitt  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It could be a timing or fueling issue.
      Are you running points or electronic ignition?
      Has your carb ever been serviced?

    • @Incriveles
      @Incriveles 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Murfitt yep I did cleaned the carb SU stock and I’m running an electronic ignition instead the analog coil.
