Built one of these a year ago, same case and all. I call it my keychain emulator and people are always amazed when I hand them a controller and plug in a pack of gum then all of a sudden we are playing DK64 . Good stuffs !
this was a wonderful read. :)
Pack of gum. Haha imagine 20 years from now. Size of a booger. Hahaha
@@yotaiji012 I'm calling it now. I just invented nano USB to plug in my booger emulator !
I managed to get a Pi Zero 2W before the price gouging took place, and it is very capable for emulation. It was the last Pi device I bought, as I have shifted to retired mini office PCs for emulation now, which are much cheaper eeper and way more powerful.
the Pi zero 2 w is so close to a Pi 3. mine is going into a play station 1 blaze arcade 2 player stick. Happs controls added
I ordered and got my Pi Zero 2 W, can't wait to make a build
Nice, I think its a neat little device.. just have expectations in check on what it can do and it can be a cool little setup.
I truly remember those Days back then... I've learned a ton from you brother, and have purchased some cool shid😎
Keep on keeping on @Madlittlepixel 💪🏿
If you're running it in 130 degree weather you probably need a heat sink for yourself 😂
Back to the roots of the channel.... Enjoyed this video
Good stuff dude, learned a lot from you and ETA when I built my first PI a few years ago. Going back to your roots bud :). Now you need to do a PI 5 build!! Swine
I’d like to see more of this kind of content. I like the idea of doing something myself on the cheap. Keep ‘em coming, dude!
I bought a Pi4 kit off your store ages ago. I put it on a shelf and might get to setting it up now. You reminded me I bought that thing lol.
6:05 Speaking of Sega's core on RetroArch for my own prefer well i understand the CD's music or sound effect were off, the Genesis and Sega CD will be Genesis Plus GX due to Genesis MD+ (Genesis game, but with CD music) in it, 32X's Picodrive, then Master System and Game Gear SMS Plus. 😌
I remember early on in our video game pie adventures floating the idea of an RPG only build. Since games that require precision timing with button presses and the very nature of emulation not always working hand in hand... seldom is an RPG something that isn't perfectly enjoyable. I remember even starting to build out what that list of games would look like.
As I started to transition from Raspberry Pi, to really getting into physical consoles and games... I've collected nearly every RPG from the 8-16bit generations.
I just love appreciating games... they remind me of a better time, and frankly a better world we lived in. Every stage of my life I feel like I never knew how good I had it till I got to the next one.
I would love something like this that I can plug into a smart TV and play PS2, Dreamcast, Arcade stuff and everything older.
I don't know how to do any of this and I don't own a PC so something like this would be great.
😄👍
Then, in the future...The break room 1 hour lunch became Heavy Kirby battles and more 3ds Smash Brothers.....
liked the story about Pocket Neo back in the day lol
Adding a retroarch / lakka frontend to an orange pi or similar SBC is a great way to play retro emulation.
Please continue, thanks.
Glad to see you returning to your roots. Post that build to arcade punks and the circle shall be complete.
The Big Box operation I worked for...They had a Nintendo GameCube in the break room for a number of years...The Receiving nerds would have massive Smash Bro matches every other 🌃 night....
Another talk about 15 bucks like Pi Zero 2 W, and it's some kinda upgrade. Another nice. 😁👍
Like the build so far cool keychain chase too!
I really like these videos you are making. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. You could make these small builds and sell them from your store. I am sure people who watch your channel would purchase them. Looking forward to more of these videos. Take care.
Another great video, love the content. Looking forward to the follow up vid!
Hi Ron, just caught this and will catch up on you earlier vids on this. Keep posting updates please. Very interesting and refreshing to go back to a Pi Z. Loving it :)
This video inspired me to dust off an old Dell USFF 7050 Optiplex and install Batocera 38 on it. I am now enjoying some Crazy Taxi on Dreamcast. Hell yeah!
Always straight with your views , so refreshing , thanks !
I can see sales of the Pi Zero spiking because of these 2 videos alone. lols
I would love to see what else you add to it in a final video. :)
I just got into Retropie stuff myself, i found a 3b board on a fleamarket for 1 buck, haha.
Its fun for sure and i kinda wanna turn it into a little mini arcade!
+1 for this type of content where you setup/install different frontends on pen devices.
These machines are perfect for small gatherings with family and friends. Just plugin to any TV around and its GTG
Doing great.. yes more videos please
Another great video! I like the suggestion of you making these to sell. I know I would screw the build up somehow. Also didn't know you had a store. How do I get to it?
I'm enjoying this super cheap build. Keep the series going. How far can it be pushed?
Personally I moved away from raspberry ip and replaced it with the steam deck and never looked back but I’m happy with the experience I had with it.
Wow! Awesome stuff
This is pretty sweet MLP! If I may entertain an idea for you though, you could make multiple copies of the sd card and sell them on your new market place and get people into retro gaming in a much better way than buying those crappy pre-built game systems. I know you would sell them at reasonable price too because that's just how you roll lol! I've already built my own collection using Retrobat so I don't even need another build but Hell, I'd buy your build and my own Pi Zero just for the cool factor alone!👍
More videos like this. I miss the old days
Cool video!
Nothing presonal but started to move away form Raspberry Pi based emulation consoles to Mini PCs runing ubuntu linux.
Yeah, performance is gonna be better with a good Mini PC.
Form factor of the SBCs are nice if you integrating into an arcade stick or a Mini console case.
I absolutely love using the small form factor PCs for this.
I would like to get a mISTER or do this at some point, but honestly I have steam deck doing most emulation of games I want. 2 player games can be annoying though depending on emulator.
Yep ... Except this is waaaaayyyy cheaper
That spreadsheet that Russ / Retro Game Corps has maintained over the years is immense. Like such a range of Mini PCs.. all the Minis forums. ❤
There's more of Sega CD title i know the best like The Terminator. Try to put that one, Ron. 😌
I think this is cool to see. That board is tiny!
This is a really good idea. Thank you for showing us.
I just got a gpi 2w case for pi zero 2w after your last video. Fun little handheld for almost half the price of an analogue pocket. Although still have some bugs I'm trying to figure out
This is sweet, man! Gotta ask before I jump in, how's Naomi and Atomiswave? Maybe dreamcast?
Thanks!
I'd love to see how different ports run on this board. Like Doom, Super Mario 64 PC, or the Ocarina of Time port, and of course, ClassicCube
I really want one please let me know if I can get one from you or at least a sd card with the built in it
Enjoying what this little device can do. Got me wanting to dust of my pi3b+ even though i dont need it. Lol
All the PC Engine CD games ran on the R4 Card for my 3DS. I'm sure that board can handle those.
does this device run ps1 games flawless like the pi3b+? im trying to find a cheap alternate to emulation on the pi cuz my previous device was stolen sadly and i missed using it, want to play the ps1 games i always used to play 😕
If i compare to nowdays price for PS1 bundling with the games like cheap especially on Indonesia, to me i think the perfomance for PS1 it's fine or flawless. 🙂
Pi Zero 2 W is about as powerful CPU wise as a 3B+ so it will play PS1 games pretty well. It has half the RAM but as you can see in this video here, that really isn't a problem with RetroPie.
good content.
MLP do you know where I could find a battery that would work with this?
hey man what theme are you using for your build? i started my own retrobat build on my pc recently i really like your theme it looks cool
wonder if PSP would work well, would like to see that next.
I don't think it will suits for the cheap emulator board...
Great build for travels, like if u are in some airbnb with a tv. Personal choice, i will stick to recalbox. Because i am used to it. Not only because it is french made and i am french 😂.
Love the build your using..is there any similar looking builds that will work on Nvidia shield?
Will buy me an Nvidia Shield Pro TV over this one.
It's just an cheap board. If you still wanna play PS2 game, just still sticks with Nvidia Shield Pro TV or get PC.
What about amiga or commodore 64
In my experience, N64 emulation can be pretty hit or miss even on an overclocked Pi 4. Hell, some games even chug a bit on my laptop (and while it's a decade old, it's no slouch). To be fair, despite the difference in platforms and power, they're generally the same games screwing up at the same places and in the same way. N64 emulation is just nowhere near perfect. But still, it's gotta take balls to attempt to run N64 on something like that. Haha.
There was N64 emulator like RMG by Rosalie241, and it's my go to N64 emulator replacement for Project64 in my PC or netbook. There are some game were fine to play for me or some game were hit or miss, but that's what i use of that emulator.
Rosalie's Mupen GUI? Yep, that's actually the one I have installed and was using. I was running it in Linux though (I don't use Windows).
Not bad at all for 15$
Can u do this on a orange pi zero w2 4gb? Does it emulate better or worse? 😅
Hey Ron, is your Pi the 512mb or 1gb ddr??
You are probably thinking of the Orange Pi Zero, the Raspberry Pi Zero boards have only 512
@@Madlittlepixel cool, thx
I been trying to do this exact build. The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W board works but when put into the same exact FLIRC case, I get no video. Does anyone have any idea what is going on? I tried using a different HDMI cable. I tried over 20 times, as soon as I take the entire board out of the flirc case it runs fine.
I was looking to get back into RPie with the new 5, but seems like it just doesnt have the love that it did back in the 1,2,3 days. Do they even have a Retropie build for the new boards? Has the community moved passed Pie for things like MiSTer?
Is there Lakka Support maybe?
@@Marmite101 that is a good question. Only saw like 2 videos on it, 1 from eta and 1 from esoterica, both only used the raw emulators from a pi desktop. It is still early and they are hard to get, so maybe it will pick up momentum? RUMOR is gc and ps2...we shall see
Keep going1
What's a good retro handheld that plays ps2/saturn/gc
Make me one bro
But how is the temperature/cooling on it
He said it's fine if not overclocking
I think this is how I'm going to go about building a retro Mortal Kombat simulator.
A tiny build that can do all 16-bit and 32-bit console versions (CD and cartridge) of Mortal Kombat.
🤔
I think I'll skip the handheld versions...
Great idea, thats the kind of setups I like... Focused and not full of fluff
What resolution are you using?
Am I the only non bot comment?
yep, but now I blocked all the bots who instantly posted the second the video went up.
@@Madlittlepixel does that also mean I'm the first :D
@@raycert07 yep 👍
You took the easy path in Starfox64. You're supposed to fly under all the rock arches for the good path in the waterfall. Overall, good build but already at the $30-45 mark. So not quite a $15 build anymore.
I have bought 5 retro game consoles and sticks. My biggest problem is programming the cheap controllers. I am sick of messing with these. I would like you to build a system that I can hook up to my TV. Games up to PSP2,Wii and GameCube.
With 16 gb of ram can't you upload the whole Nintendo 64 game on ram for more speed?
The best that I could find was $15 + $15 shipping. Anyone else find it at a better place and price?
MLP, you should make your own knockoff console. You can show those crappy Chinese companies that continually put out that garbage how to do it right :-). And then you don't have to do anymore reviews that end in taking out the broomstick and showing that console what you really think of it.
Crappy Chinese companies needs to bankrupt in case for having Pi Zero, which was the best addition for replacement of Chinese console.
I'm I'm for a giveaway lol
As far as I'm concerned....There would no reason to go their store 🏬🏪 then ....
