  • Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr, son of a former Philippines' dictator, is headed for a landslide win in the country's presidential race, according to partial and preliminary results.
The 64-year-old senator has so far won 56% of the vote, compared to 28% for rival Leni Robredo.
Mr Marcos' victory would return his family to power 36 years after they were ousted by a popular revolution.
Critics allege his campaign was fuelled by misinformation, which he denies.

I'm a foreigner living here in the Philippines and all I hear is how much Marcos Sr did for the poor. He gave lots of poor people land and they were a lot better off. I hear many, many people talking like this. That's probably why BBM got the vote.

For the above, voting was extended up to the early mornings of the next day … so everyone was able to vote. This was missing in BBC report.

I've seen the transition of the government of Marcos to the Aquinos and hoped for a better Philippines. Three decades have passed and we are still a poor country. This only shows that what they accused the Marcoses of were lies embellished with the help of the mainstream media. The Filipino people have awakened. History should be rewritten.

For your information, the problems with the vote-counting machines have been there every election. In fact, Bongbong Marcos and his senator sibling, Imee Marcos, tried to push for manual counting of the votes but they did not succeed. Now that he won, nobody has the right to say that there was cheating. You know what? this is the only election that every Filipino seems to be eager to vote-to vote for Bongbong. It is a sweet comeback, is it not?

Bongbong is a liar and just as corrupt as his parents. Research the topic of his trying to lie about having a degree from Yale. Yale had to release a statement saying Bongbong never completed his degree. He and his family have been grifters and living off dirty money his entire life. And if that isn't bad enough, they've been living the high life in the US for decades. Do your research. The Marcos are like the Trumps. They are criminals and money is all they care about. They don't care about what is good for government.

The people have spoken! For 3 decades the people were fooled by the very people who instigated the EDSA revolution. For 3 decades our country went into decline and the very people who was crying for corruption are still entrenched in the government and the oligarchs are still living in luxury while the people are suffering. A lot of people had to seek employment overseas (OFW) because there's no work for them at home. Now I hope we will gain back our dignity and be treated as equals to any independent nation of the world and not as a second class citizen to any nation of the world. No matter how much dirt you throw to us who voted for Marcos, we will rise up again because we have the spirit of hope burning in our hearts to make our country great again!

As a Filipino I live in Davao, I would say if you don’t like the Martial Law you are ………. Please search for NPA. In the Mindanao, south part of the PHILIPPINES is still under martial law right now. Our current Pres. did that because there are a lot of NPA, communists and others. Now we are thankful that we are still under martial law because we feel safer than past administration. If you behave, then there is nothing wrong with you to be afraid of martial law. I believe I voted #BBM for correcting history. I promised not to be fed by social media influencers’ and news hypocrisy. Come to the Philippines to know the truth.

You are entirely wrong. Martial Law was lifted back in 2020, afaik. It's to ensure Terrorist Activities won't happen.
But apparently, you clearly did not do your research. FEM put Martial Law to have a full control on the Government. They shut down TV Networks so the only TV network you can only watch back then was the one controlled by the Government.
If you're living under Martial Law rule under FEM, you're doomed if you're in the lower sector. You have no right to speak against the Government, Basically, any comment towards the current administration will give you a one way ticket to jail, torture and worse, execution.
They've tortured and executed Journalists, Students, Student Leaders, Oppositions, Union Leaders, mere people as long as they doubt your affiliation with the "NPA". Which in fact, FEM was tge sole reason why the NPA got stronger as they more and more people willingly joined the NPA, especially minority groups, Indigenous Communities.

Towards the end of his forced take down of his government, coups were planted in Manila in order for Aquino to illegitimately snatch and unlawfully take over the Presidency. Second, the Marcoses were already crazy rich even before the Sr became President. And those shoes you spoke of, most were gifts to Imelda from her visits all over the world and from Marikina, the shoe capital of the Philippines which she was helping to promote on the global stage to help the community and the country market their local product to the world. Did she buy some of those shoes? You bet she did! Why wouldn’t she shop for herself when she has all the money in the world. What lady doesn’t own more than one shoe? What more if you’re filthy rich? Some of these shoes were given as gifts from the Marikina Shoe Industry of the Philippines because the former first lady believed in the quality and craftmanship of these products. Some of these were never worn and still has some price tags attached to it because it did not fit .

Problem with you Leni supporters is that you guys think that you have the moral high ground and that the beliefs you have is what's best for the country. You guys are so blinded by overwhelming self-righteousness that you think the world revolves around you people. Kung makapag degrade kayo sa ibang tao na maka BBM wagas eh no? Ibat ibang tao ay sarisari ang paniniwala. Hindi lang po kayo ang may karapatan to choose what's best for the country. People obviously have their own reasons on why they chose BBM to be the next leader because they believe in his cause and his competency to lead the country. You also have your own reasons why you chose Leni yet you find little to no people judging you intensely for being a Leni supporter. Reverse the situation and toxic kakampinks will make you look like you have bad desicions in life, degrade you as a person, and say things such as "Ay bumuboto sa magnanakaw" "kaya di umuunlad pinas dahil sa mga taong katulad mo", etc². Let me remind you that the late Miriam Defensor Santiago believed in BBM because he knows what he is capable of. Face it... the silent majority have spoken. At the end of the day, were still on the same boat. Best thing you could do is pray for the incoming president to succeed on his promises and hope that the Philippines will be prosperous under his term. Because i'm sure he won't disappoint😉.

We as a group (Me and my friends & families who support marcos) here don't rely on "so called facts distributed in social media platforms like Tik Tok. We obviously rely our facts by doing research on credible and reliable sources and by first-hand experiences during the time of the former president Marcos. Don't get me wrong, i don't tolerate misinformation and fake news that is why we educate ourselves and make us informed & aware as much as possible. I'm not going to be specific on the details because it would take me a week to explain but what i can say is this, even (IF) the father committed sins on the country, the son cannot inherit it. We chose BBM to be our leader because we believe in his cause and competency to become president and handle things on our country to prosper. And which countries specifically think were a joke? As i remember many international organizations and countries like the EU and US also clowned duterte back in 2016, yet exposed them for their hypocrisy particularly on the Drug war.

More like, social media was like a gift from the gods to Marcos' disinformation campaign. We all have Cambridge Analytica to thank for that. That same disinformation campaign is not new though. The Marcos's has been using their ill-gotten wealth to cook us using our own fat. They started with small tabloid newspapers that they can pay off in the 2000s. Then at the dawn of online independent content-creation in mid 2010s, they had armies of writers flood blogspot, tumblr, myspace, and friendster. Then facebook, youtube, tiktok and even linkedin in the 2020s was the nail in the coffin to round out the gaslighting and whitewashing of history. Hats off to them. Apart from the Marcoses, the opposition is equally to blame here. While the opposition was busy bickering against each other, the Marcos's were slowly rewriting history. The opposition can see it happening, but they didn't do much to counter it. If the Filipinos were French, the entire Marcos clan and their cronies would'nt have survived the 1986 revolution. Their severed heads would've been filling baskets until sun-down. But hey, the CIA can't have their pet dictator killed by a bunch of unarmed protesters. That would've been embarassing.

Call Marcos a dictator but you also can't deny that he did much during his term than presidents after him combined. What really reduced the Philippines to its state today is the years and years of corruption not the Marcos stolen wealth. And as much as there are people testifying against his term, there are also people testifying that they lived in a better time then than now.
After people power revolution, what good has it really done to its people? Did the country progressed like South Korea in the early 90s also coming out of dictatorship? Only that, the poor became poorer, the rich became richer, government became more corrupted and the nation suffered economic decline. The Philippines is sick and tired of several presidents making false promises, presenting the same platform and not effecting real change. And then they turned out to be the very instigator of corruption themselves.
Plus the sins of the father should not be passed on the children. Just because Bongbong Marcos' father was called a dictator doesn't mean he is a dictator himself. What kind of philosophy is that. All this talk about history, not that it is anything bad, but too much of it is making people fixated on the past and is the reason why Philippines can't ever reach progress and a chance to realize its potential. The country needs to move on. So much has already happened since martial law. There are more problems that needs to be addressed and we can't do that if we are stuck living in the past.
This is why I lost faith on media where truth is so relative. It only exposes what it wants to expose, just one side of the coin. It's manipulated, biased and skewed where one's opinions is shaped by another's opinions. We're trying to better our country. So if media has an axe to grind spare my country and grind it is elsewhere.
This is democracy and the nation has spoken. Respect the voice of the Filipino people.

You make some valid points to a very complex situation. We also shouldn’t ignore the fact that the Marcos family were seen as allies by the US and considered on the side of ‘good’. It’s only when unrest started that the US propaganda machines were put in place to completely change their narrative on the Marcos family.
Having said that, I’ve no doubt the family caused many human rights abuses, but so has every US, Russian and Chinese Government of the last 100 years, and they definitely stole money, which they should’ve paid back. Anyone who steals from the people, isn’t a patriot, they are traitors. But you can only judge him on his actions in power, let’s see what he does, but I really hope he doesn’t turn into a dictator.
From a foreigner with a place in the Philippines 🇵🇭
      God bless.

The people in his (BBM) senatorial slate (which most are leading as of now) are the corrupt officials themselves that you're talking about that brought the Philippines down to it's state. And of course, his father's wrongdoings shouldn't be inherited by him, but did he even do anything himself to prove his competence?

It means 30 million are still uneducated and blinded. Only 2.5 million filipino people are eligible or loan out of the 140+ million in the country. It says the people are not educated and are still living poor. Chel diokno didnt even get elected being the most qualified out of all the senators being the dean of la salle law and human rights lawyer to fight for the poor being killed. Says a lot how the masses of filipino think which is manipulation of information in the masses. You would rather vote for someone who has not finish any education and has no proven track record of how to serve its people. You study and work so hard but yet your elected does not work at all. Dont take my word. Do the work and research.
