Most of them were also pricks who loved to argue about "what's realistic" with actual military combat veterans. You get these types a lot also in mil-sim airsoft groups. I like to imagine i make soldiers laugh at me. I want to join, yesterday a marine recruiter called me and i might join even tho i prefer a squad size of 9 rather than 3 or more fireteams like the marines. I got diagnosed with major depressive disorder and got put on zoloft about 3 months ago tho. I also did acid 4 times, mushrooms once and smoke weed everyday. Failing everything in school (not trying, not dumb). I should be able to get into marines if i get a GED, lie about the drugs and the depression. They should only find that if they look in my med records which to expect history of depression i would need to have a full section 8 type mental breakdown anyways

You will only end up ruining your life with a dishonorable discharge that will follow you around even in the civilian world (if an employer does a background check). Trust me on this, the military would be a nightmare if you are dependent on weed. That being said, if you can stop, and are not reliant on any psychotropic medications, for me, completing Army Basic Training and AIT basically cured my depression as I came out with a massive self-esteem boost. You feel like you can accomplish anything in life after going through that as they tear you down and then build you back up. But like I said, if you decided to try to get in, do it right and don't undermine your own dreams.

The one time I went I did super well on defense in our building bc lets face it, most Army training is static defense hence This We'll Defend, so I took out pretty much everyone coming in, but when we had to go on offence the training wasn't as viable tbh . I moved well but there was some shits I couldn't see.

The opposite happened to me, except the army called not even ten minutes after I got dropped at the office to ship to Parris Island. My mom later told me when I got boot leave that he actually sounded hurt to hear that.

Great job on the memories.
I supported a recruiting command from 85 to 88 (NRD New Jersey). It was hell on earth until Top Gun came out. I swear, the most marginal guy in that command was coming in with 3 to 5 a month. Had one guy who came in with 13 in one month! All things being what thay were, that was shitty duty. I think we determined that 85% of the guys who were on recruiting duty didn't even want to be on recruiting, but, all of the shore billets were taken......you know what I mean...

Before enlisting I asked my USAF recruiter what he did with low ASVAB scorers. He said he sent them down the hall to other services recruiters who were glad to get 'em. Fast forward fifteen years to my peers homesteading as recruiters who did the same. Shit's SOP since ancient Rome.
Most pretentious shit in the world minimum ASVAB for the Air Force is 36 and the Army/Marines is only 31, a mere 5 points. Are you saying you had enough kids score in that 5-point range to warrant a whole SOP? So glad I took my 93 ASVAB 130 GT and took my ass straight to the Marines who took me in and gave me a family.

Thankfully I never had to deal with recruiting when I was active duty. I heard horror stories from a few people in my units who had, and their stories aren't that off from these episodes, sadly (and this was before 9/11 when nobody thought they'd have to go fight anywhere)

I nearly joined the Army out of high school to become a combat medic. Chose to be an EMT instead and I imagine it feels relatively similar in this crazy ass world. Sure you aren't being shot at but the injuries are just as horrific and the images never go away. Thank you to all serving both over seas and in the community.

I always tell kids thinking of joining the military not to trust a recruiter farther than you can throw them. I don't tell them not to join, just to not sign a damn thing until they had done their research, talked to veterans (especially in the MOS they want to go in), and had a good sense of what was in store for them in terms of deployments, relationships, barracks life, etc.. Vet TV, while often exaggerating some things for comedy, shows a lot of the realism and raunchiness of the military. But also every command is different. Some units are less dysfunctional than others. When you're in a good unit with good leadership, it can make a huge difference. Sadly leadership is always shifting in the military. So just when you have a great senior NCO/Officer combo in your unit, your commanding officer gets promoted and sent elsewhere or your senior NCO gets promoted and sent off to some other unit and then some Jackass takes their place and turns everything upside down.

It’s funny, but Recruiters have different schools, and when they share a school they don’t share the same QMA. Usually Marine Recruiters don’t go to AC at the same school because it only really helps the one recruiter, while the other recruiter is losing time canvassing his school. i remember applying to WOFT and the recruiting station had some new SFC/ NCOIC of the recruiting station. He told me and another applicant for officer shit to standby in his office while he addressed his staff. He closed his office door. Must have thought his office was sound proof. He started yelling "I dont give a fuck if yall dont like me! Everyone of yall mother fuckers will make 100 calls today before leaving. I dont give a fuck if yall dont like yalls job." walked back into his office and put a smiley face on for us lol
If given the choice between becoming a drill sergeant or becoming a recruiter... I'd choose ETS.

It’s funny, but Recruiters have different schools, and when they share a school they don’t share the same QMA. Usually Marine Recruiters don’t go to AC at the same school because it only really helps the one recruiter, while the other recruiter is losing time canvassing his school. Anyways, sorry for the buzz kill.
i saw multiple recruiters at my highschool 2019-2020.
@@hooded6735 they could have been helping each other out to cover more ground so to speak, but unless it’s a really big school one recruiter will cover the school. Also could have been the SNCOIC tagging along or a Recruiter Aide.
