Someone in my unit volunteered for deployment to pay down debt and he did but when he came back he was in debt again because his wife "forgot" to pay the mortgage, car payments, and everything else.

It's funny but this actually happen to my Squad Leader SSG Ralph. His girlfriend cleaned out his bank account on the day came back from deployment. He was eager to spend the money he saved up during deployment only to find out she cleaned his account. This was 15yrs ago and it keeps on happening.

One of my buddies had his bank account emptied by his wife 5 months into our 12 month deployment. The bitch was fucking a POG from battalion HQ who had been sent home early from deployment. They drained $30,000 in less than a week. It's all good though. My buddy beat fucking brakes off of that blue falcon piece at a battalion dinner a year later. You couldn't even recognize the guy he was beat so bloody.
Edit: Oh, and the affair cost her the subsequent custody battle.

Story about beating the dog to death with a bat is raw! However we did have someone whose wife poisoned their dog while they were gone, just gave them a bunch of chocolate and watched it die. Marine beat the ever loving stuffing out of her, almost killed her, got arrested. Went to trial, hung jury - it was a nightmare.

The thing with abusing the dog and killing it in a microwave was pretty dark, even by military humor standards. But as for the rest, ANYONE who served can tell you a story like this. We've all met a few people like Betts, folks you could trust with your life in the field, but you wouldn't trust them with fifty cents

He reported in and then he ran out screaming without his blouse on and the company Gunny was behind him screaming "Cpl so and so get your fat ass back here" that was a my interdiction to NJPs

One thing I learned was to send all money home (including bonuses) and not to get in a relationship during service. I dodged multiple bullets compared to others. Seeing people get cheated on and financially fucked was like a daily soap opera for me. It's messed up, but it sure was entertaining.
Paying Apartment Rent out-of-pocket really hurt after my “Second Promotion” to Senior Airman (E-4) back in ‘04-‘05. I was living in a nice apartment too as an NCO.
Mercifully they let me out early in a RIF that Spring, still had an Honorable Discharge and I still got paid my Annual Reenlistment Bonus before my [new] ETS.
Was humiliating to get busted down from an NJP and not a Court Martial. Unlike the other services you gotta test for NCO promotion in the AF, and getting demoted messes-up your TIG for the next test cycle.
