Those lucky people in the audience! We saw The Moody Blues in 1972; most of us there were tripping and it was beautiful and quite moving. Everybody then had all their albums. It still amazes me how much astoundingly great music was happening then and in the quickly changing 6 years before that. It was a golden era.
I remember seeing clips of this concert on our local news when I was only 13 years old, and they were labeled as "the thinking mans band"...pure genius on all levels of the musical realm.
These lucky people got to witness something timeless. This will be the classical Mozart, Beethoven 300 years from now. This isn't just rock music these are sophisticated arrangements. This is classical music. Along with the Beatles , Beach boys and many more from the 60's and 70's
The beauty of their music is they always stayed ahead of their time. Many songs so surreal and unearthly and really sends you on a journey in each song. One of my favorite groups of teenage years.

The Moody Blues were Avant Garde before being it was even a thing. Their music was so cutting edge it is hard to define, but Glam Rock, Hair Metal, and a few other later genres of derivative music would not exist without the Moody Blues influence. It's so amazing to look back on this music now and realize how out of the box and great it was.
Probably some of us ( who are listening right now) where there at that concert even if we were not born yet. Somehow in another body or in the parallel past. That’s why we love to be there. It’s a memory. 😉
solid gold... solid gold.... i was blown away in the late 60s when nights in white saturn came out .. in australia we had to wait longer for the album to get hear, even then i couldnt believe it was just the moodies, i thought it had to be an orchastra with them. today watching justin on stage in his late 70s is unbelievable.. and on u tube he talks about how he wrote those songs.. incredible... touches my heart big time. how lucky are we. by the way, search of a lost chord was the first moodies album that i got stoned to, way back then.. wow💛💛💛

No auto-tune, listen to the musicianship.... pure and amazing talent. I love the Moody Blues. How I would have loved to have been there, but i wasn't born just yet. I was rocked to the Moodies, as a newborn. They are a soundtrack to many of my memories, to my life.
We are lucky to be watching The Moody Blues on UTube from 1968, the best years we Boomers got to experience. This band was & still is my all time favorite bands…I was 19 at this time & would go back in a minute if I could. RIP to ones who have passed away…I love you, MB’s.♥️
I think Mike is "thee" pioneer of mellotron! Pink floyd, king crimson, Rick wakeman & even the beatles followed suite, in fact Mike introduced the mellotron to the beatles for "strawberry fields forever" what a legend Mike is & is sometimes forgotten about!!

I also started listening when I was 13, born in 53. No music is better. But I never heard Ray play harmonica and sing this style song. The audience is be bopping, something that doesn't happen at their concerts. Fantastic

I was wacting em' then, when I had sneaked in to this concert, only 13 yrs old because I heard them in the radio. But the ewening was speciel to me when a girl with a lot of curly hair gave me my first kiss. Back then girls wasnt so afriad to be open. Since then 'the Moody blues' has been my favorite.
I recall hearing "Tuesday Afternoon" as an AM single in winter 1968. I was 12 at the time, and didn't know it was the Moody Blues, until I purchased the album "Nights in White Satin" as a cassette in 1973!
1968, the year of 'In Search Of The Lost Chord' which my dad played regularly and I was fascinated by as a child and is still a hugely influential favourite. This is some terrific footage right here and something I'd love to have seen. Great stuff and often sadly overlooked when people think of the 60s and only think of the Beatles, Stones, VU, Cream, Hendrix, etc. The end part of 'Legend Of A Mind' that they play here at 11.05 never fails to blow me away.
Wow what can I say when I'm smiling the whole time and listening to this Immortal diamond of a performance! It is very rare to find old footage and I especially love live performances even though they may be quirky, they have that connection that you get when you see them performing live. I'll tell you what, Mister Edge can wear that drum out and he had very snappy rhythmic drumming as well. The bluesy stuff was so much fun to listen to! It was also fun to see the members having such a good time and all the people grooving to their music LOL

Ray Thomas, who passed the baton to Justin Hayward as leader of the Moodies, was the soul of the band. For those of us who heard his deep vocals and flute solos, he was (and is) unique..

"Legend of Mind" would have been one tough song to pull off live in 68. I've seen other old stuff but they had backing tracks and you could tell. I don't hold it against them or anything. But this was live and done just right. Great great band. Each member added to the magic.

That one blues song (or more if there is one) that they did. Man, that's a side of the Moody Blues that I've rarely seen. But, it's entirely consistent with where they came from when they were trying to break out from their Beatle-esque influence. Go man, go!!!

The Moody Blues were and still are such an underrated band. They were so great! And Graham, why did you hide yourself under that beard all those years. He was a good looking guy!
Just want to set the record straight in reference to the Rock n roll hall of fame business. What is the rock and roll hall of fame. From a british point of view the response is WHO? We dont do halls of fame its an American concept, so the moodies coundnt give a dogs piss if they get in or not. We give out gongs like Knighthoods, damehoods etc Still the best 5 piece rock and roll band period.
First, let me say that North America is very young compared to the British Isles. We don't HAVE monuments such as Stonehenge, so to us, something, say, from the 17th century is about as far as we go. My Family, however, is another story. My Family traces back to Edward 1st and his Queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine. Edward conquered Wales and so the Family lived there for quite some time. The line did not die out and continues. Many of them settled in 🇬🇧 Engand eventually, some immigrated to 🇨🇦 Canada. So, while some consider us upstarts, we have a unique view of what's worthy of being treasured and what's not. We do have respect for the accomplishments of the past, especially the Arts and Sciences. That being said, our American neighbours value innovation as much as the British do their heritage. In music, Americans and Canadians will appreciate any music, as long as it's good. Jazz, Blues, Folk, Country were examples of this and they fused into a new force called Rock and Roll. The young post war generation claimed it but their parents rejected it. That backfired. The genie was out of the bottle and was never going back. Kids were writing and playing great songs. Sun Records had happened - mainly Elvis, Texas happened - Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and company. In the 60's, Rock continued to evolve, with the introduction of Psychedelic Rock 🎸 and the "Summer of Love". From Liverpool, England, the Beatles were the 1st band to sweep the U.K. and Europe, and completely win over the U.S. The United States and Canada were swept up in "Beatlemania" too, but they didn't leave their American music behind. It really was the "golden age" of music. The Moody Blues were right in the midst of the "British Invasion". They knew that if they were to have any kind of success, it had to be in America, where promoters were waiting for the next "Big Thing". So, there they went, not exactly flush with cash, but Americans, generous to a fault, took them under their wing and that's where the special relationship between the Moodys and the American fans began. I have met some of those people that helped them at that time and everyone of them had nothing but great things to say about them. All of them said, "If you see them tell them "Hello for me!" The Fans here have been extremely loyal, throughout their journey to great success. I didn't see that same level of affection in England. I know that they played Royal Albert Hall to great acclaim, but I also know that they sold out two shows on the same day at Madison Square Garden. No one else has done that! It was a real injustice when they were kept out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for so long. due to the bias of one man. I personally saw some of the petitions from the Moody Blues Fans. So many signatures! The Fans here never gave up, but the petitions didn't make any difference - if they were looked at at all. The Moody Blues stayed true to themselves and were not about to compromise their music. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was not an issue the Band considered. The Fans never gave up, though, because the bias against Progressive Rock was unfair. Things changed for the better when the powers that be changed and Fan input would be a factor in determining what bands would be put up for consideration, nominated and inducted into the Hall. No surprise to us, then, that the Moody Blues were in on the 1st vote! There was some downplay at first by the band members as to what this meant to them and rightly so. That mellowed out though, when they were aware of how hard the Fans had worked to give them this honour. I was at the Hall for the ceremony in 2018. The circle was complete...

I was turned on to Threshold of a Dream and Children's Children's Children the first time I got stoned. I was TOTALLY blown away! Magnificent!

1971 I saw the movie blues at the Coliseum in Denver, Colorado. Awesome concert took some mind altering substance LSD all the memories.

It is very rare to find old footage and I especially love live performances even though they may be quirky, they have that connection that you get when you see them performing live. I'll tell you what, Mister Edge can wear that drum out and he had very snappy rhythmic drumming as well. The bluesy stuff was so much fun to listen to! It was also fun to see the members having such a good time and all the people grooving to their music LOL

I saw them September 23,1970, at the small theater it was called the Felt Forum Madison Square Garden New York just before the release of Question of Balance.

Ray Thomas, who passed the baton to Justin Hayward as leader of the Moodies, was the soul of the band. For those of us who heard his deep vocals and flute solos, he was (and is) unique..

Saw this live in 68..near to my first concert... One of the greatest experiences of my life. .at 17.. .all of us on lsd .changed my life.
This classic lineup had only one album released and one in the can at this point. So, they had to throw in a few numbers from the original band in.
Ray and Johns high vocals really made this band

"Legend of Mind" would have been one tough song to pull off live in 68. I've seen other old stuff but they had backing tracks and you could tell. I don't hold it against them or anything. But this was live and done just right. Great great band. Each member added to the magic.

These orchestral melodies with their metaphysical poetry were my generations guide to a future life here on Earth. We had Timothy Leary and Baba Ram Das......John Lennon, Maharishi Maheesh Yogi, Ravi Shankar and Woodstock.......Jimi Hendrix.....we also had great dextro-rotary lysergic acid diethylamide tartrate, easily available in all kinds of forms.....I know I done "dropped" alot of it and sold{distributed} much, much more. That was almost 50 years ago and I am still "peaking" and "flashing back." .....Once in awhile the "REALITY" that most of you thinks is so real......MELTS AWAY into soft metallic plastic...... That one blues song (or more if there is one) that they did. Man, that's a side of the Moody Blues that I've rarely seen. But, it's entirely consistent with where they came from when they were trying to break out from their Beatle-esque influence. Go man, go!!!

Just want to set the record straight in reference to the Rock n roll hall of fame business. What is the rock and roll hall of fame. From a british point of view the response is WHO? We dont do halls of fame its an American concept, so the moodies coundnt give a dogs piss if they get in or not. We give out gongs like Knighthoods, damehoods etc Still the best 5 piece rock and roll band period.
The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame could not be more irrelevant. Who gives a dog's piss indeed. Love the Moodies though.
First, let me say that North America is very young compared to the British Isles. We don't HAVE monuments such as Stonehenge, so to us, something, say, from the 17th century is about as far as we go.
My Family, however, is another story. My Family traces back to Edward 1st and his Queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine. Edward conquered Wales and so the Family lived there for quite some time. The line did not die out and continues. Many of them settled in 🇬🇧 Engand eventually, some immigrated to 🇨🇦 Canada.
So, while some consider us upstarts, we have a unique view of what's worthy of being treasured and what's not.
We do have respect for the accomplishments of the past, especially the Arts and Sciences.
That being said, our American neighbours value innovation as much as the British do their heritage.
In music, Americans and Canadians will appreciate any music, as long as it's good. Jazz, Blues, Folk, Country were examples of this and they fused into a new force called Rock and Roll. The young post war generation claimed it but their parents rejected it. That backfired.
The genie was out of the bottle and was never going back. Kids were writing and playing great songs. Sun Records had happened - mainly Elvis, Texas happened - Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison and company. In the 60's, Rock continued to evolve, with the introduction of Psychedelic Rock 🎸 and the "Summer of Love". From Liverpool, England, the Beatles were the 1st band to sweep the U.K. and Europe, and completely win over the U.S.
The United States and Canada were swept up in "Beatlemania" too, but they didn't leave their American music behind. It really was the "golden age" of music.
The Moody Blues were right in the midst of the "British Invasion". They knew that if they were to have any kind of success, it had to be in America, where promoters were waiting for the next "Big Thing". So, there they went, not exactly flush with cash, but Americans, generous to a fault, took them under their wing and that's where the special relationship between the Moodys and the American fans began. I have met some of those people that helped them at that time and everyone of them had nothing but great things to say about them. All of them said, "If you see them tell them "Hello for me!"
The Fans here have been extremely loyal, throughout their journey to great success.
I didn't see that same level of affection in England. I know that they played Royal Albert Hall to great acclaim, but I also know that they sold out two shows on the same day at Madison Square Garden. No one else has done that!
It was a real injustice when they were kept out of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for so long. due to the bias of one man.
I personally saw some of the petitions from the Moody Blues Fans. So many signatures! The Fans here never gave up, but the petitions didn't make any difference - if they were looked at at all.
The Moody Blues stayed true to themselves and were not about to compromise their music. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame was not an issue the Band considered.
The Fans never gave up, though, because the bias against Progressive Rock was unfair.
Things changed for the better when the powers that be changed and Fan input would be a factor in determining what bands would be put up for consideration, nominated and inducted into the Hall.
No surprise to us, then, that the Moody Blues were in on the 1st vote!
There was some downplay at first by the band members as to what this meant to them and rightly so. That mellowed out though, when they were aware of how hard the Fans had worked to give them this honour.
I was at the Hall for the ceremony in 2018. The circle was complete...
It is a commercial entity- I can live happily without the need to “validate my excellent taste in music!”
I prefer these to the studio versions. They seem clearer. So happy to find them.
