The Moody Blues sing Legend of a Mind in paris (1970). I had to edit the video so it would fit on youtube. So it may not be a clear copy like the rest of the videos in this concert in paris.
Met Ray in Phoenix back in 2004 before he passed, what a great guy, ran into him at an IHop pancake house at 2 Am, sat for over an hour drinking coffee and talking about music and songwriting. RIP Ray, you have been an influence on me as songwriter
Wow what a story. I saw them twice in '84 and '85 was in the second row the last time. Only vaguely remember Ray Thomas and don't remember them playing this song but I'm sure they did
U gave the longest caveman guttural yell you ever heard at the Hollywood bowl at 512,and this guy in front of me turned around, really angry, but when he saw that sappy smile on my face, he just gave me the high 5.i just couldn't contain myself
The Moody Blues epitomize artistry. Their range of music, instrument playing, themes and writing must be among the best there has ever been from a Rock Band
They quit playing this song when Ray retired. What a bummer. Arguably their best ever. With the constant change in beat and different sounds it was far ahead of its time and is timeless today
Just as good today as it was back in the day. I remember listing to this song on head phones in my bunk on a submarine while on patrol in the Pacific in the 70's. Great way to temporarily escape.
Are you still okay, submariner Steven? They still boast along the coast about that yellow submarine. LSD - 25 music, just when you think the trip is over, it kicks in high gear again. God wanted me to tell you to do Acid again, Steve. You need a refresher my lost boy😉
@@barneyronnie We're still waiting, Steve. C'mon, it's only been 15 years. Soon you'll have an itch . . . . 'what is that?" . . then something tells you to look at this video once again. . . .Barneyronnie and maybe others are waiting for your reply. (p.s. I have some original from Albert Hoffman).
@@darrellhambley7245 Hopefully, he is not another casualty of the drug epidemic and will turn up unscathed and in good health. If he has ingested a 'therapeutic' dose of LSD-25, then let us hope that his experience was enlightening and beneficial to his growth into a compassionate and empathic human being. D-lysergic acid diethylamide 25 has been a useful tool for my own spiritual growth and self awareness. Responsible use is beneficial in so many ways that one would be hard pressed to list all of them. It suffices to say that proper use enriches one's existence by stimulating a desire to have a deeper understanding of the purpose and meaning of that existence. My experience suggests that continued use isn't necessary, and more importantly, frequently maligns the role of this sacred substance to that of a 'party drug.' Terence Mckenna: " When you get the message, hang up the phone! " Peace ... (frog)🐸.
Sad for those who have a party drug event. A close group from long ago get together every 5 years for a meditation. We rent a cabin in the woods or something similar.
I agree. I saw them 5 times during the 70s and 80s. But the Rock Hall of Fame still need to induct Tull for me to have any respect for them. My respect grew a lot this year with the inclusion of The Moodys and Dire Straits.
@@garyc8710 I agree as well. They were every bit as innovative as the Beatles, with great orchestral arrangements and music that was too complex to tour live without some backing tape. This particular piece is glorious.
Heard this when it first came out. Totally blew me away. My favorite Moodies song. After Mike Pinder left, the band was fantastic... with Pinder... magical.
Man I use to fall asleep to this cassette...I'd be asleep till the laughter right before Ride my Seesaw...then I'd bolt up and be like, "was I asleep" Great memories..thanks for posting.
I just wanted to post a big thank you to Moodies Fan for this song in particular, but also for the concert from Paris as a whole - a truly wonderful experience. I also grew up on the Moodies and Pink Floyd, and this is just fantastic. I don't think the music dates at all. Just so much more creative than today. The only scary thing is that this concert is 40 years old - sort of gives your age away !
Tune in, turn on and drop out. Flashing back to 71/72 sitting on the floor on a blanket. at the Sportatorium in Hollywoof, Fla. The sound crew drove the mellotron and flute right through us. At near thirty, I was just waking up to the fact that the 50's R&R was pretty much foundation and history going through a serious makeover. Today, as I listen to this, I'm 'there' once again.
Oh My! Sweet, soulful, deep, orgasmic, haunting, lyrical, heartfelt, spiritual, longing, heartacheful,(is that a word?) blissful, out of mind, takes me to a far away, beautiful place I've forgotten but always long for, thank you God for the Moody Blues!
Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful musique. One of the Greatest Bands ever! I never got the opportunity to see them live in concert. I was too young to go alone and knew of no other MB fans! So Thanks for sharing! It's almost like having been there! Peace and Light Always
This is another one of their GREAT!! songs. I love the way the song changes the beat throughout. Listen to Ray's flute, amazing. The vocal harmonies are incredible. What a band.
When Timothy Leary passed, just before - he said he saw something wonderful. I hope he saw his paradise. Not because I loved him, but because God does.
This came out the year I graduated. And the MB s are still touring .Seeing them live is something special .There are people there from 8 to 80 and all enjoying it together.
I agree, but back in the day apparently a lot of people accused the Moodies of being bandwagon jumpers when it came to their"psychedelic" credentials. I guess because they began as more of an R&B group? If that's the case then the same could be said about the Beatles and definitely the Stones.
Wow... can he play that flute or what! A true test of a band is if they can sound the same live as they do in the studio...and the Moody Blues pass all the time. Just as good now as then. truly fantastic.!
Was nine years old when I first heard this song after my mom came home with the album! Still is fantastic after almost 50 Yrs. Scott Muni played this song every once in a while on WNEW FM
Right on target. I too, used to listen to this wiht headphones, and it does tune you out and escapte to a different world. Wonderful song. Another one to experience with headphones is their "Thinking is the best way to travel", on the same album. The sound goes from one side of your head to the other by way of going from side to front or back to other side.
While I absolutely love Moodies and this song... this video has been mated to the original record recording... the slight missed flute note gave it away at first, and then I watched the video and you can clearly see Graham Edge's playing is not in synch at multiple points. No prob... still love it anyway!
My favourite group long before Beatles !! (yes) I am enjoy to see theses vidéos and there were in Paris ! I could'nt go to hear them just because my parents don't alow me to go out at night ! I was 16 : ( Thank a lot for sharing that with us and Bravo !
Followed them since 66,had all LP's but they got damaged in a flood. Now have been trying to see if their records were ever available on CD's but no luck so far. There was never another group to match them and the music is still relevant in this century.
I met and talked to Timothy Leary in 1987. He came to ASU to give a lecture. He partied at a club called Utopia where I was working. He was with 3 beautiful coeds and yes they were tripping. I couldn't get off work, damn it!
Nothing wrong with Timothy Leary telling us to tune out and to sink into and expand the depths of our own consciousness! I myself find this as only a good thing!
I got a butters worth of energy from viewing this film clip which is actually a compilation of bloopers from the old tv show "Emergency!" The scene at 1:27 where the Moody Blues are all together on stage and Johnny Gage runs by them and with the help of his good buddy Roy Desoto starts to administer Ringers lactate with D-5W. ...It was odd to see them grab the electric shock paddles and put liquid LSD on them and drug the band members into an instant thought of "Justin needs a tan"
I've been a fan of The Moodys for a long time. I also love the instrument the mellotron which was a signature sound for The Moody Blues. This song features it prominently and from what I understand it was/is a very temperamental instrument to play live. The boys do a wonderful job of getting all the effects right in this song. Any experts on the mellotron to explain why it was so hard to lug around and play?
fantastic thanks so mouch for all those videos you have edited wonderfull songs never ending peace joiness and love forever music from moody blues are pure sensitive thanks so mouch again
right on johnholk! This entire series was live vocals, however some of the other clips were overdubbed with the full studio track after the concert (they sang with the original inst track, so post production audio/video synch was an easy task) The Moodies live on forever!
Saw MBs at Ravinia in Highland Park IL last year. Fantastic! I have been listening to them my whole life, and it was my first time seeing them. They played nearly every one of my favorite tunes, but alas, not this one. Thanks for posting this video - probably as claose as I'll ever get to hearing this "live."
You are correct. I could tell, as you alluded to, that it was a "lip synch" performance, and the music is playing directly from their album "In search of the lost chord", on which this song was a part. And yes, they are AWESOME in concert.
La musica che si sente NON è quello l'arrangiamento che si ascolta in questo filmato del concerto dei MOODY BLUES ma bensì è l'arrangiamento originale dell'album IN SEARCH OF THE LOST CHORD !!!!!!!
You are right - this is from the studio. What threw me off is what sounds like the vocals double tracked in some parts and also some overall reverb effects to mimic a live sound. Thanks for pointing that out.
I saw Timothy Leary at SUNY Plattsburgh.
While on mescaline.

How's your mind these days?
Wow what a story. I saw them twice in '84 and '85 was in the second row the last time. Only vaguely remember Ray Thomas and don't remember them playing this song but I'm sure they did
What an Incredible and Unforgettable experience that must have been! He sounds like an awesome and real down-to-earth guy by his very own nature!
I could listen to this song over and over...Absolutely beautiful...

I saw them in Dallas in 1996, and they played this song. The next morning, we found out that Timothy Leary had passed.
The Moody Blues epitomize artistry. Their range of music, instrument playing, themes and writing must be among the best there has ever been from a Rock Band
i am a woman and born and live in holland (the dutch) and i always love the moody blues.

Saw them three times in Scotland, also the blue jays and they were great every time, they should be praised as highly as the beatles.

Rhythm, harmonies, theme, presence on stage, orchestral riffs and the ability to move an audience with music like few bands could ever do.
The Moody blues were and are out of this world

I love this song. They were all together then, Ray was such a talented man, they all were.
what an outstanding song. Plus the flute solo is quite something. You can tell their music is evolving , changing from their first songs

What a truly awesome Classic Song by "The Moodies". This group will never die in my mind.

i was there. And it was great. I'm now 55 years old.
Thanks for the post.
........the Moody Blues ARE underrated.
I'm 53 yrs. old, can still remember where I was & what I was doing the first time I heard this song, very powerful stuff...

Ray was my favorite Moody. He will be missed.

My favourite band ! Saw them twice in Australia and Justine in war of the worlds! Awesome!
RIP Ray Thomas, too bad he couldn't be there in body for their RRHOF induction later this year. Kinda sad....
This is another one of their GREAT!! songs. I love the way the song changes the beat throughout. Listen to Ray's flute, amazing. The vocal harmonies are incredible. What a band.

one of their best songs, I think. True phychedelia.

why not?

It's amazing how they found a way to video the same tempo as the studio version. I do love it though. Good editing.

This is the record, they are not really playing. Come on, just listen!!!! You hear a mellotron, but no one is playing it.
They are miming to the album recording but still a classic song
What a song. What a time. Too bad they don't perform it any more, it was such a staple and such a reflecting ball of then.
