Thanks Terry. Good idea doing the shorts. I miss the availability and ease of getting your hands on different species in SA. Here in New Zealand it's very limited, and if you by some luck get your hands on something fairly decent, the prices are through the roof.

Nice explanation Terry. Can you share with us how is your feeding and cultivation method to get that georgeus green foliage in general on junipers?
Its a combination of liquid fish emulsion on a weekly basis together with Bonsai Boost which is an organic fertilizer. www.bonsaitree.co.za/collections/fertilizers-and-baskets

My hanoki bonsai just started getting yellow foliage mixed in when it got cold here in Tennessee a week or two ago. We have not really had frost and the tree has not really been under stress it was in its pot all summer and doing well. Any ideas on why it's yellowing? And what should I do? Thanks in advance friend! It is a tiny dwarf HONOKI ABOUT SIX OR SEVEN INCHES TALL MAYBE THREE AND A HALF INCHES WIDE
Hi! Its likely either old foliage or foliage which has become too weak as its not getting enough sunlight. If old foliage makes sense then there is nothing to do but clean it up. If too little sun then you need to thin the outer foliage to allow more sunlight into the tree.

When I got it I opened it up a little with some wire to let some light in but yeah the foliage is just so compact .Removed the weak and dead stuff on saturday.fingers crossed .My other HC got a light pinch and and a styled over the weekend as well. I'm pleased with it and it seems to be doing great! Thanks for the advice. Just freaked me out right at the beginning of those cold snaps when it happened. Cheers from Knoxville
How many times and when is the best season to conduct cleaning on Hinoki and also junipers. Spring, Summer, Autumn?
The best times would be between when the plant is actively growing, you don't want to cut off active growth. Once that growth has hardened off then you can thin it out.
