I've got an Oliver friend that is going to start making youtube videos of his stuff. He has lots of vintage equipment that he uses his tractors on and is very knowledgeable. I'll be giving him a shoutout once he gets things up and running.

AHH Shucks, I was hoping to see Herman pulling 6-18s with an on-land hitch. Great video. Around here if a farmer saw a plow, most would think it was a horse-pulled antique.

Beautiful tractor. Dad and I would plow together with him on a 1650 gas narrow front pulling an Oliver 4-14” and I was on an 1855 gas pulling an Oliver 4-16”, both were pull plows, back in the early 80’s.

One year, after a wet fall, I was sent out with the Ferguson 35 and its lightly-used two bottom plow to break up all the tracks we made during harvest. I think that little tractor was happy to get to do real work for a change, and I know we got the carbon burned off. Jobs like that taught me a lot, and got me ready for the 1900 with five big shares behind it. I miss those days.

Absolutely gorgeous! Don't see too many of those around. Dude, your equipment is TOPS. I can't get enough! My collection is only just starting haha. Finally bought a place in the country a few years ago of my own. Got me a 61' Oliver 550! Use the loader on it for all sorts of moving and lifting. Also play around with my mini fields to till up for pumpkins and sweet corn. Keep the vidyas coming!! Not enough Oliver farms on youtube. I love me some red IH paint too. But something about them Olivers...just gets me in the feels! Thanks for sharing your farm!

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The 1950T was made from 1967 until 1969, when it was replaced by the 1955. The turbo charged 310 in them doesn't have the best reputation, but if they are rebuilt correctly, they can be a great engine. Most of them had dual air cleaners, but during the last year they switched to a single air cleaner. They were Oliver's first turbo charged tractor, and have become popular with collectors in the last few years. Parts are available to rebuild the engine, as well as most of the transmission and hydraulic systems. If there is a hole in the block, that might be a little tougher. From what I hear, good blocks and crankshafts are getting hard to come by.

What oil do you have in the 3 speed?
I’ve got so many different answers I don’t know who to believe but I think I can trust you. 🙄🙄

If it has red fluid, I use ATF, used to be dexron 3. From what I have read, dexron 6 is a synthetic replacement for dexron 3, and earlier type A automatic transmission fluids like Oliver used. There are other types, some have friction additives, I'd stay away from those.
If it is clear/tan, then it is universal hydraulic transmission fluid. Agco calls it 821xl, hy-tran and hy-gard should be equivalent. They switched to universal about the same time they switched to silver paint. The internals are the same, so if you want to switch fluids, it's not going to hurt anything. Just drain it well to get out as much of the old as possible.

That Oliver Guy - Chris Losey thanks, I don’t know what was in it as it was drained when I got it.
I put in Duratran hyd. oil and it’s working fine,so far.
Don’t want to go through the process of finding another one again. They’re not easy to find up here.

I looked up duratran, it's a transmission/hydraulic fluid. It will be fine.

What's the Maxs bottoms the Oliver would pull ?? TY,,,

4 bottoms is ideal for a 1655, might be able to get away with 5 on lighter ground like mine.

@@ThatOliverGuyChris The type of ground must make such a difference. I grew up in northeast KS, and we only plowed the terraces to keep them up. We had a pretty decent 4 bottom (not Oliver, but I think it was a 4-16") and it took nearly 100 hp to pull it well. We had an IH 856 that did fine for many years. Dad upgraded to a 1456, which was way to big (ours was turned up to about 170 hp) so he tried pulling the plow with a 706 one year on wheat ground. Absolutely pulled the tar out of that tractor, and it should have been pulling around 75 hp, iirc. That was the death knell for the old girl. Wouldn't start later that winter when we were loading grain. Pulled her apart and found she was pretty well shot to pieces, multiple cylinders with heavy scoring, rings shot, needed major overhaul at that point. That was too bad, I really liked that 706 (except for the terrible gear changes because the linkages were worn pretty badly).

The tractor weighs approximately 9,000 pounds. It has a 283 cubic inch Waukesha diesel engine.

You need a four bottom mounted plow and let it eat

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris

That's a lot of weight hanging off the back. It could do it, but hills and valleys would be a bear.
