  • My good friends the Wernettes came out for a day of fun and plowing at my place. They store their Olivers at my farm, so this gives us a chance to get them out and work them a little bit. The ground was quite dry, so getting the plows into the ground was tough in spots, but we didn't let that stop us from having our fun. In this video is my CAT powered 2255 FWA pulling 8 - 16 inch bottoms, Phil's 2150 FWA pulling 6 - inch bottoms, Alan's 1755 pulling 4 - 16 inch bottoms, and Andy's 550 pulling 2 - 15 inch bottoms. Thank you to Julie and Andy Wernette for shooting some video for me.

    I had 2 Massey 4 wheel drive tractors years ago. 1500, 3150 Cat and a 1505, 3208 Cat.
    Never had a problem with either of them.

    I will always have a special place for a 2255. I had buried a Oliver 1600 to the axel and our neighbor had a 2255 that pulled me out like a toy. I have heard that the engine was a throw-away engine but my neighbor used his for several years without a problem. Great video.

    Having been a farmer all my life I do enjoy watching these videos. I love watching a plow. On our Saskatchewan farm we didn't plow. Our father and grandfather did but we needed to conserve trash to prevent soil erosion. I love your 2255 Oliver and the other two as well. They are sure straight and original. Wouldn't a shiny new coat of paint dress them up? I especially love the Cat V8.

Handy little tractor. Mine's got a Freeman loader on it too for pulling fence posts, loading and unloading heavy stuff, plowing snow, etc. etc. All beautiful Olivers there man.

      These tractors were built when roll bars were just becoming an option. You can't buy a new tractor now without some kind of roll over protective structure. I've got one to put on the 2255, but it is industrial yellow and needs cleaned up before I mount it. Thanks for watching.

    I grew up with John Deere tractors, so my knowledge of other engines is limited. Over the past few years my brother and I have been trading in our Deere's for New Hollands and have been really happy with them. One has a Ford engine and another a Cummins and the other a Fiat. We really like the super steer on our FWA TG 210 it turns almost as short as a 2 wheel drive.

    Awesome plowing video!! Great crew and good bunch of Oliver tractors. It's a funny mystery how it took a few years for you to find that broken coulter. I broke one this spring just like that, I did find it while walking the field though.

    Just found your channel and have been binge watching your videos! We don’t see many Olivier here in GA; I’ve only seen one in person (all Deere country here!). Are you still able to get parts for them relatively easy? A tractor tour video of all your machines would be awesome!

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Common wear parts are fairly easy to get. Some of the other parts like sheet metal are getting reproduced for the collector market. Other parts can usually be bought from salvage yards. Of course there are parts that can be hard to find, but overall it's not too bad.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      We don't see many gauge wheels around here until you get up to the 6 or 7 bottom plows. Must be we are tightwads, because they are nice when breaking over hills, to keep the back from gouging in deep

    Do you run some of the new radial rear tires ? I had a 7 bottom plow on a JD 8320 in furrow and the furrow that I I ran in messed up the tire ? New radial tires seem to have weak side walls ? Had to go on land , because of it .

    Does plowing help keep the rocks off the surface ? Are there enough rooks that trip the plow bottoms to dig them out ?

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The plow will bury many of the rocks, but will occasionally bring some to the top. The ones the are just below the surface are the ones that are roughest on things like the disc and planters. The ones on top are mostly a threat to the combine. I have gone out and dug up large ones where I can tell a bottom had tripped. I got a couple with the backhoe the day this was filmed.
