I had a two wheel drive 2050 for our main tractor from 1985 to 1987. It was a beast. Previously our biggest tractor had been a 400 Farmall. I bought a 6x16 John Deere plow and 18 foot Oliver disc to use with this tractor. Neither tool held that tractor back. In our soil I could have easily pulled an 8x16 plow. From my experience, front wheel drive is over kill on this tractor. It was just at that magic point of having as much horsepower as a two wheel tractor could put on the ground effectively. We didn't have on farm storage for diesel fuel, so I would drive it to the closest fuel dealer and fill it up at the start of the season. We farmed just less than 120 acres then. This tractor could plow and disc all that acreage on one fill up. I only had to drop a bit more fuel in it to get it back from the rental property 15 miles away. That was a great tractor. The only problem I had with it is that the PTO wasn't designed to deliver full engine horsepower. I put the tractor on the feed mill one day and managed to destroy the PTO when I engaged the mixer with a full load. That is something we did all the time with our 50's era Farmalls.

On thing farmall was really good at was building their PTOs, they even put them in their tiny little cub original tractor that can run and auger.

I love the fact that this family has tractors that are put to work for them and not just stuffed in the back corner of a display area somewhere. We have a small herd of Wheelhorse garden tractors varying in condition from fully restored to wearing their work clothes, so to speak.
We bought them to use them and work them, not look at them.

I understand this mans idea of keeping iron working. It seems more goes wrong when they are left sitting for extended periods

Riding to school on the bus in the late 60s early 70s there was a dairy farm on the way to school and I could see a greenish tractor and a yellow one that look the same size and I could tell they had 4 wheel drive which was not common in those days . I would always look for them tractors every day. Of course I was like 9 or 10 and didn't know about Oliver.

This guy is spot on correct... we keep our original equipment also for our tractors working a lot of times when I tractor was bought several implements and equipment was bought with the tractor and we have accumulated many pieces of equipment and machinery over the years back to the 1930s up 1970s and very few new items our older equipment is always better at being reliable

In the 70s, in northeast Kansas, a neighbor owned a front wheel assist IHC. Possibly a 706. We had a regular 706 Diesel

I Agree, I like to keep them original, Mine is a rare English built D270 Allis Chalmers around 1956 --57 year model, it's clean but not pretty and it runs well. I had a brass badge with Dad printed on it, named it in honour of my father, from way back when we were on farms and it was my first style of tractor that I learnt to drive.

I like original older tractors also. I have a original 1990 Massey Ferguson 3070 cab 2wd with low hours 2,200 hrs. It was a one owner until I got it. It was barn kept. Only the top of the hood was faded some. With still very good paint. The wheels need a little work on them around the vale stems paint flaked off and some rust. The interior of the cab is in very good shape and is of high quality material. All I have done is rub out the hood and brighten it up a bit and clean the interior which didn't need much. I going to work on the wheels a bit to stop the rust and corrosion before it gets worse. I am amazed that I found this tractor in the shape it in runs drives like a new one. And it was almost exactly what I wanted big enough to pull a heavy duty 15Ft batwing/ flex wing . A 2615L Bushhog brand.

If Oliver, Minn. Moline and Cockshutt a had had a little help from the government when times were tough, like many others had they'd still be around.
Those companies were innovative and at the forefront of cutting-edge ideas in their time.

They are hay stackers. They can be used for hay or corn stalks. They put loose material into what looks like a loaf of bread.

I had a 2050 and a 2150, both MFWD tractors. The only real difference in them is the 2150 has a turbo. Let me be the first to tell you that turbo makes all the difference in the world. A 2050 is lazy and sluggish feeling compared to the quick response of the 2150. Either one is very easy on the ears, but especially the 2150.
