    Grew up 20 miles from Charles City, my sister and brother-in-law both worked at Oliver as well as many friends. Never had any Oliver tractors, but had a Oliver corn planter that was a really solid piece. My uncle had a 1650 gas I spent some time on it was sweet on a rotary hole, went like hell!

      Nice tractor!! The G.M. , screaming Jimmy's eventually got the name Detroit Diesel from International who coined the name. International was a big purchaser of G.M.diesels. It did not look good putting a competitor engine in their trucks as GMC was also making big rigs at that time. Int'l renamed them Detroit's were they were made, Detroit, Michigan and the name stuck with the engines. As for Herman, I can hear him calling , AB AB AB Lily!!

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This chart has everything you should need. For the white, it is my opinion that they used the same white that Oliver did. The clover white on this chart only has a hint of green, which is correct. The version of clover white that Agco has been selling has too much green and brown in it. Some say the Cockshutt 1850 used what was known as Bosslne white, which a straight white, so I leave that up to you. The Cockshutt yellow is for tractors before they were bought by White, so you can safely ignore that. If your 1850 is an early one with the two tone red/ tan paint scheme, let me know because the tan color is not on that chart and I'll have to do some asking around. When getting custom mixed colors, I always get it in the smallest quantity available for the first time, usually a pint. Then if doesn't look right you don't have a bunch of wasted paint. If it is right, you're all set to order the rest.

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The second cap is a dipstick. It was for gasoline tractors because they didn't use the vacuum of the main tank to empty the fenders like a diesel did. How Herman ended up with a set of dipsticks is beyond me. The port was in all the tanks, so it would be easy to add a set later on, and they didn't have to build 2 different tanks either.

      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

It might be OK but that is a lot over stock.The Olivers and Whites both were excellent tractors. Oliver was ahead of their time and it is a shame White ever bought them out. They took the money Oliver made to prop up their failing truck line and eventually it all failed. Damn shame.

    Great story on Herman! I will be purchasing a few t-shirts, thanks for doing that for your viewers. Ok so I have a question about the fenders tanks, I noticed the ones on Herman have 2 caps per tank one is the fill and one is a dip stick to check fuel level correct? I have a set like that for or 1950T. Oliver66FarmBoy just did a video on fender tanks, and we were talking about the ones that had the 2 caps and thought they were for gas tractors. But now I see a set on Herman so maybe that's not the case. Do you have any idea or was it just a difference in design of the tanks over the years? Thanks again Chris

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was told the dipstick was only on the gas tractors. All the tanks I have seen have the pipe plug for the dipstick, so it would be easy enough to add them on to a diesel. I don't know if Herman came with this set or if they were added on. My 1650 gas had fender tanks without dipsticks, but I know it came with regular fenders from the factory and the fender tanks were added later. A farmer's cab was added at the same time, which if I remember correctly hung over the fenders enough to interfere with where the dipsticks go in.

      You need to buy a copy of the build card from the Floyd County museum. It tells how the tractor was equipped rolling off the assembly line, what day it was built, what day it was shipped, and which branch warehouse and city/state it was shipped to. Unfortunately they didn't put the name of the dealer, just the town and state. You'd have to ask around to figure out what the name of the dealership in that town was. They send a nice certificate with that information as well as copies (if they have them) of the build codes to show how your tractor was equipped. Visit the Floyd County museum website at Www.floydcountymuseum.org to get their contact info. I think it's $25, you'll need your serial number for them to look it up.

      They are auxiliary fuel tanks. They were an option, and would add about 78 gallons fuel capacity to the tractor in addition to the main tank that is around 35 gallons.

      Mounting them isn't too bad since they are on a split rim. Getting the beads to seat is another story...

    • @randallvos
      @randallvos 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Being a split rim, they should be tube type, but I've been wrong before........

    • @ThatOliverGuyChris
      @ThatOliverGuyChris  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      These are tubeless. There's a large o ring that goes in a groove just behind the retaining ring. That seals the outer bead to the rim.

    Chris, a good friend of mine here in Wa has a small Oliver Cletrac that’s in surprisingly decent shape. He’s been trying to sell it for a while but not much market for that here it seems. You have any interest in it?
