There's mods for PvZ that make it way harder. I can't remember if it's Hard or Brutal, but one gives this "Double Jump" to the Pole Vaulter, having him do the jump as normal, and then again before walking slowly as usual
I find it pretty cool interesting to see unused content and something that developers thought they deleted or something from the game but still in the game you just can't access it normally it's pretty cool and it gets a sneak peek into the development of a game and might have some leftover features to play with even if they're not in a complete state

i agree but second place would definitely go to a hat in time, the amount of cut things in the game add up to basically a whole other storyline and game entirely, we could've had a laboratory themed world along with a desert world according to the cut content wiki if you look around enough, and even a hub that was inside an hourglass

From what I saw from other videos, Zen Garden is actually a 6-Seed Packet minigame. You choose your seeds but your seed packet upgrades don't apply. The mechanic of the level is that you play in the Zen Garden, and you get to move your plants around with the Gardening Glove. Imagine Minecarts in Pvz2 Wild West but different

George Fan stated in multiple interviews that they first had the tower defense mechanics planned with the plants, but couldn't decide on an enemy. They wanted to change something slow, and the final decision was zombies because they were just booming at the early 2000s. 1:59 Carrots and Beetroot both got added in PvZ 2. In the same world even, Neon Mixtape Tour. Onions appeared in the Ice Age. There are multiple iterations of these veggies in later games like Heroes and Garden Warfare. 2:34 Multiple peapod-looking Peashooters made their way in PvZ 2. Also the Peashooter in garden Warfare has Peapods as arms. 4:30 I think many of these unused zombies give a vibe of Garden Warfare and also the card game Heroes. The zombie monkey appeared in PvZ 2 and also as a costume in Battle for Neighborville. 4:48 These t h i c c Zombies' body shape for me looks kinda similar to the Cardio Zombie in PvZ2 and some Zombie classes in Garden Warfare. 19:10 The snow level, of course, appeared in PvZ2 being the Ice Age. ALso, the quote "Bloom and Doom" was said in many later PvZ games. For example, the card game PvZ Heroes was adverticed as "A battle between bloom and doom".

Fun fact about the "Deck" mechanic in prototypes (According to game's wiki where i got it): The mechanic itself is actually inspired by the Magic the Gathering's deck building systems which is not far from how plants are chosen in the prototype. Another cool thing is that we are still choosing which plants we are going to bring in the level in the final build which still has this "Deck building" sort of idea is used in it.
Cool stuff, always interesting to see just how much content was actually left out on some of these games. a lot of the ideas shown were really good, can't imagine why they were scrapped.
one other thing with the songs: in the early version of watery graves, towards the ending where the song would normally loop, a part of zombies on your lawn would play. during the final wave version, the beat would be different, along with some of the instruments.
fun fact: in the comics, dino might has tugboat wearing clothing similar to the zombie at 4:28, the only difference i remember is that the middle part on the arm is split on the left arm in the comics, here it's together.
I noticed in the short clip of the place holder lawn mower caution bars, that when it blamoed the zombies out of existence, only one of the caution bars disappeared, which I find interesting as it implies that in that early build that you could have the zombies get past your defenses twice before getting game over for each row of the lawn, as in the finished build with the lawn mowers, once the mower was used, it was a one and done, and couldn't be used again in that row for the rest of the level. I also wonder if that idea of a second line of defense partly made it into the rake mechanic, a rake you can buy from Crazy Dave that instantly kills just about every variant of zombie, but instead of being at the back with the mowers it's near the front, being two slots back from the zombie spawning area. This is pretty damn neat seeing an on depth look at some of the behind the scenes of my childhood classic game I first played on those play games online for free websites, where it had the demo. I eventually got to play the ds version and beat it so many times I actually have no idea how many times I had lmao, and then I played the mobile version and beat that one several times too, and finally I'm trying to figure out where I placed my pc port of it as I really would like to play that one for the first time in the full version rather than the demo on an ad ridden website with so many flash games its probably a graveyard by now lmfao, I also would love to get the console versions to look at how different each port is from each other, as from what I've seen so far, there is quite a lot of differences, makes me wonder if Cut content in one is used in another, or exclusive content like the zombie choking animation, which if I recall correctly that it is real, it should be part of the console ports.

Funny thing is that the zombie with a jack-in-the-box and a monkey has made its way back in Plants VS Zombies 2 for an event. It basically spawns chimps that attacks plants at a higher rate.
I thought the elevated part in the backyard was just surrounded by a weird fence, still making it so only catapult plants could shoot over it and giving ladder zombies something to do besides harass tall-nuts. Glad it was changed to the rooftops though, makes more sense overall

Ok so the reason that the concepts gone over in the beginning of the video mentions aliens is because originally pvz was going to be an insaniquarium sequel for DS where you would control the fish in the bottom screen and on the top screen there would be a separate tank with aliens that would teleport to your tank and you would have to defend your tank.

The "Peanut" or something at 2:25 is most certainly an early design of an imitater - its almanac description makes clear references to him being a veteran.
George Fan in a 2012 presentation about the development of PvZ's tutorials and how to overall make good tutorials showed or mentioned in some way the "Squirrel" and the two "Can you dig it" levels in the hidden limbo page as attempts to introduce and teach the player the shovel and digging mechanic. He said these respective variants of introducing the shovel and digging mechanic made it seem very repetitive and/or could have made the player think you need to use it a lot more than actually needed, making people overuse the mechanic and hinder their in-game performance. With George himself indirectly revealing the actual purpose of these three limbo page minigames, it seems that generally the limbo page isn't as much of an unused minigame section as it is just a spot for developers to store random, unused, in-development at the time, miscellanous levels.
There technically is a 2 player mode on the Nintendo DS version where the person who plays as the zombies has to chose a team just like the plants and there currency comes from placeable gravestones. On the zombies side they have a 🎯 at each of the lanes and the plants goal was to destroy 3 of them before the zombies can get to crazy dave

i think the zopmbie designs were basically meant as why the have the item like the cone and bucket, but they made it look more simplistic and made them look the same but with the item.

I believe that the early concept sketches of the aliens and other creatures were originally from a time where Popcap was making a sequel to insanaquarium that involved the 2 screens of the DS that would have the player defend the aliens using plants but things changed so far from insanaquarium that they decided to change the entire game.

There is an old version of PvZ deleted from the App Store, it was removed in 2016, but there is an option for quick play which allows you to play a more difficult version of bungee blitz, it just isn’t named anything.
The other survival endless levels were actually used in the Xbox and PlayStation version of pvz, idk why not in any other version
FUN FACT: In the Xbox360 Edition of Plants Vs. Zombies, ALOT of the unused mini games are released into that specific edition! I know this because I have it!

The "Peanut" or something at 2:25 is most certainly an early design of an imitater - its almanac description makes clear references to him being a veteran.
George Fan in a 2012 presentation about the development of PvZ's tutorials and how to overall make good tutorials showed or mentioned in some way the "Squirrel" and the two "Can you dig it" levels in the hidden limbo page as attempts to introduce and teach the player the shovel and digging mechanic.
He said these respective variants of introducing the shovel and digging mechanic made it seem very repetitive and/or could have made the player think you need to use it a lot more than actually needed, making people overuse the mechanic and hinder their in-game performance.
With George himself indirectly revealing the actual purpose of these three limbo page minigames, it seems that generally the limbo page isn't as much of an unused minigame section as it is just a spot for developers to store random, unused, in-development at the time, miscellanous levels.

There technically is a 2 player mode on the Nintendo DS version where the person who plays as the zombies has to chose a team just like the plants and there currency comes from placeable gravestones. On the zombies side they have a 🎯 at each of the lanes and the plants goal was to destroy 3 of them before the zombies can get to crazy dave

At around 3:00 when you mentioned the 2-player mode, it actually did end up being released but only to the console versions where it was easiest to play 2-player.
