Man you got a lemon there. I haven't had any issues with my 512 as you mentioned. I have roughly 500 rounds through mine and only had 3 malfunctions with the 30gr TNT. The huge hollow point was causing feeding issues. Hopefully you can get yours fixed, I don't see why CZ wouldn't take care of it. Thanks for being honest and showing the problems.
I'm sure they'd take care of it but I sure do hate having to send anything back. I don't like when things like this happen but I don't mind sharing the fact that they DO happen! Thanks for watching Chuckin'
I have the CZ 512 also. I've had it now for awhile, but have not shot it but one time. I put 25 rounds of CCI WMR through mine with no malfunctions. I had intended putting a minimum of 50 rounds through it the first time out, but my scope rings loosened up on me and as luck goes I forgot to bring my gun cleaning/tool box that day. I had other guns with me to try out also. You got me curious about my 512 now since I only just put 25 rounds through it. Like I said it run fine with just the first 25 rounds. Back to the range as soon as possible.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Yeah can be quiet frustrating with a new firearm. Hopefully you'll get it sorted out. I like you hate to return a firearm for repair, but sometimes it has to be done. Recently bought a Ruger Wrangler .22lr in Nov 2021. I have yet to shoot it, although two days after owning it I had to send it to Ruger for repair. The hammer was bent to the left and starting to gouge into the frame left side of firing pin. Ruger fixed it and they had the gun for about 3 weeks. Hope your CZ 512 works out they are nice rifles I like mine.
He got a bad one, and it’s RARE, to find a CZ that’s a lemon! That’s absolutely 100% the best .22 mag that money can buy. That gun will shoot 1/2 inch groups at 100yards all day long and cycle everything. He got a total lemon, honestly the first I’ve ever seen.
With all that said. You will never get one hole accuracy with any .22 mags, the ammo just isn’t consistent enough, there’s no such thing as “Mach grade” .22 mag ammo unfortunately.

It looks very nice and feels like it's very well made too. I'm going to try some different ammo next weekend and see if there's a difference. I guess I saved someone else from the frustration of this rifle! Thanks for watching Santee!
No issues with mine so far. It's a scope only/no iron sights model, with checkered walnut stock. 100 yd groups within 1inch. Leupold 4X scope. Never had a jam or misfire. Needless to say; I am extremely happy with my CZ512 22WMR.
I am just getting back into shooting small arms. Well, any arms really as I have been shooting slingshots mostly. I got the Winchester Wildcat and soon discovered your videos. I got it due to the ease of cleaning and magazine features. I am out of slingshot shooting til my left hand heals from a pinched nerve. This .22 WMR has been on my wish list... may be picking up the bolt action or a Ruger American. And I find your videos entertaining and really informative. Thank you, sir.
On the accuracy, try using a shim of cardstock under the front handguard. Sometimes a little upward pressure can help. Since it uses a screw on fore-end, that can cause problems.

My 512 has been ridiculously reliable (,it doesn't get that cold in northwest Florida)... But CZ is no different than any other manufacturer... Eventually, a bad one is going to get out. Referencing my comments 6-22 and 6-23 on the Rossi and the CZ recoil after it was returned: The CZ looked to be recoiling 1/4", maybe 3/8. The Rossi appeared to be recoiling 3/4" or a tiny bit more. The loose hold obviously didn't affect the Rossi feeding. Would like to see you shoot the CZ held loosely in the sled. Good luck with both those fine .22 WMR rifles!

I'm the one who's getting a 512 soon. And as far as I've looked at the reviews, I've never seen a malfunction like yours. This made me a little skeptical about how the 512 I was going to get. Maybe I'm lucky that my house is in a hot climate. Hopefully you can fix the issue and good care from the dealer. Good luck, and don't forget to bring along a review that you're going to test with the different types of ammunition. I will continue to monitor you.
I contacted CZ yesterday and they're going to take it back and fix it. Many others that I've talked to said they've had no issues with them. I guess I just got lucky and picked the one with a problem. I'll do an update video describing the customer service, return process and the results. I don't think ammo was the issue and it really shouldn't be the weather either (at least I hope not). Thanks for watching!
The manual says 1804 fps (550 m/s), the ammo I used is 1875 fps and although it's on the low end of the velocity scale, it should have functioned fine. Thanks for watching!
Hey buddy, watching your video I was just very disappointed with the performance from your CZ512. I’m new to the 22 magnum world and I’m finding the guns are a little picky when it comes to ammo. Now certainly the 40 grain ammo you had should’ve been fine. I’m interested if you was able to resolve the issues because I want one. I’ve bid on a few online recently. Your rifle is the 1st negative review I’ve seen on any CZ firearm
Several makers have had issues with Semi Auto .22 magnums in a direct blowback system. I can hardly wait to see how Savage does with the A22 Magnum. Almost every maker gets the .22lr versions right. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year to you as well!
It really sucks having to send any thing back. Be it through a dealer, packing it up and shipping yourself, etc. Shippers are so hard on packages these days too. Even packed very well you risk damage as they literally throw packages around. Both drivers and at distro centers. My biggest gripe is the cost though. It's easy to get to the 50-100 dollar range depending on size, weight, insurance, and oversize packages. Esp if you don't have leftover packing materials laying around and have to go purchase some. Companies get so much better shipping rates than we do. If I have a warranty return I try to get the company to at least send me a shipping label on their dime and then I have to do is pack it and send it off. Will be interesting to see how this works out. Seems to be a rare occurrence for CZ products in my experience.
With all the good things I've heard about CZ, I wasn't expecting to have any issues with it. I've only ever sent one back before, I took it to the store and they shipped it out, I think I had to pay for return shipping. (that was many years ago) I want to try a couple things before sending it back, then I'll see what CZ has to say. Thanks for watching Joshua!
I would try different ammo 1st. I have Remington 597 , eats everything . RUGER 10/22 bull barrel , eats everything. GSG 16 only eats everything. S&W 15/22 performance center , runs everything . If different ammo doesn’t cure it , send it back … 🍺🍀. Thanks for video
Best simi auto .22 mag ever made: absolutely 100% the best! I had a .22 mag phase, I’ve done more research and owned more simi auto .22 mags then any man should. Only .22 mag I’ve ever own that will run literally EVERYTHING FLAWLESSLY! with all that said, the worse .22 mag I’ve ever owned was the magnum research, and I owned 2 of them!! Send that gun back, it’s a lemon, trust me That’s best simi auto money can buy.
I already started the process of sending it back and I will be doing another video. I want to explain the return process and the customer service experience I had. Thanks for watching!
First nice rifle. I think accuracy will get bette, barrel will get seasoned😄. But a big bummer on hammer reset. Hope CZ will fix but a pain sending back and especially a purty rifle like that. I can't believe it's weather related either. If so that's a big bummer
Looks good anyway. I didn't catch it, but were you using the same ammo for all shots? Why on earth do manufacturers put those darn stickers on the furniture, be it wood or poly?!?! Enjoy your vids and presentation style. Calmness too! I would have been looking for a pond to toss it in. I have to say, I have a number of CZ's and they all work exceptionally well. Thanks for standing out in the cold to share with us. JimE
Yes, CCI Maxi Mag, 40 grain, 1875 fps. The manual calls for a minimum of 1804 fps. When you walk into a gun store, rifles are usually standing upright with their tops toward the wall and their underside facing the customer. t's all about marketing. Wouldn't do me any good to throw it into the pond, it's frozen over. The ice is probably thick enough to walk on right now and I don't think it's going to thaw out anytime soon. I've always hear good things about CZ. Maybe I got the one that slipped through the QC cracks? Thanks for watching Jim!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview "Wouldn't do me any good to throw it into the pond, it's frozen over. " 🤣🤣 I know what ya mean Richard. I use to live in northern lower Michigan. I could walk on water too. Use to drive the car out to the fish shanty also. I haven't been able to do that for the past 20 years since I retired. Picked up a Bergara yesterday. Was going to get the B14R but couldn't justify the $400 price over the BMR for what I do. JimE
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview The Bergara is made is Spain and Bergara has been making high quality barrel for other manufactures for years. Haven't put the BMR to the test yet because I just ordered rings for a scope I had. I did point and shoot 10 rounds through it just because I couldn't help myself. Went back in the house and did a check on trigger pull from the factory. Five pulls with the Lyman pull gage and average of 1lb 5.2oz........... with no creep or take-up. It is adjustable. When I get the scope on next week I hope I don't to spud a hole in your pond for it. JimE
Hello, I'm having a huge problem with cz512 open sight. Well, I can't aim through the open sight. I don't know if you can use the open sight to shoot targets or not. Please give some feedback about the open sight. Thank you.
If you're not familiar with how open sights are to be used, look up a video on sight picture. That should help. You can definitely use them for target shooting but the further the distance, the more difficult it becomes.
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview As a result of not being able to use the Open sight easily, I have modified the rear suspension system to a shortened type(Bullpup) and modified the slide lock system so that the slide stays open when the last shot is fired. Otherwise, the last shot of every magazine was a dry fire and the rifle scope was used as a final answer. And I don't understan what the meaning of the word"look up a video on sight picture" ,where can I find it?

I have same rifle ... and it's definitely particular about ammo. Winchester super-X is a total bust, and every 5th round fails to cycle. But it thrives on Hornady 30 gr v-max and Hornady Critical defense. Never fails with these. It's extremely accurate with one inch groups at 100 yards being routine. And I'm no expert shot. The problems you are having seem extreme. Maybe truly a lemon if same results with other ammo.
There's definitely a problem with that rifle , can you send it back to company ?? Being a quality rifle like a CZ it should function flawless .... And as of accuracy , my CZ 455 22magnum shoots half inch groups at 50 using 30grain VMAX , very accurate little rifle .. I hope you get it soughted out Richard , it disappointing when a brand new rifle won't perform.
Yeah, I'm sure they'll make it right, I just hate having to send it back. I'm going to try a couple different ammo brands, weights and velocities before sending it back. One of my friends said the accuracy could have been a result of my aggravation! He could be correct! Thanks for watching Shane!
I talked with someone at CZ and it will be returning for warranty work. I was going to try some different weight and velocities but the ones I was using in the video, met the requirements in their manual. Thanks for watching!
Every CZ I've owned and shot have been 100% reliable. However they're handguns and all steel, if that rifle was at least an all aluminum reciever, I'd have bought one already. @@SmallCaliberArmsReview yep I agree. The case is to long and weak. Also most chambers in 22WMR are tight enough that after 50 rounds or so they get dirty enough to cause failures to feed and eject. I stick to bolt and wheelguns in this caliber.

The magazines would wiggle up and down over a quarter inch when locked in place. Walther told me it was defective when I sent the video in. @@panuvasungsopapong2891 Thank you and God bless you as well.
Could it be weak ammo
The manual says 1804 fps (550 m/s), the ammo I used is 1875 fps and although it's on the low end of the velocity scale, it should have functioned fine. Thanks for watching!
Ever find out why rifle would not cycle properly
I shipped it back to CZ on Saturday. I'll do a follow-up video when it comes back. Hopefully soon!
my 512 has a dual recoil spring...? got it like 6/7 years ago. r they all single spring now? love mine (.22 wmr)
I think so, there was a change in the design.
I did a follow-up video on the 512. th-cam.com/video/aPJA6WNkY94/w-d-xo.htmlsi=xz2CUQNjXaQw-l3U
Morning Richard, 22mag cz has some problems I’ve seen. Beautiful rifle like to have the 22lr version. Nice review sir. Happy new year
Several makers have had issues with Semi Auto .22 magnums in a direct blowback system. I can hardly wait to see how Savage does with the A22 Magnum. Almost every maker gets the .22lr versions right. Thanks for watching and Happy New Year to you as well!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview yes sir I love that 512 and hope you get it right
It really sucks having to send any thing back.
Your viewers might be interested in a PROJECT FARM video on different CLPs.
Interesting. What do you mean by "Project Farm"?
I would try different ammo 1st. I have Remington 597 , eats everything . RUGER 10/22 bull barrel , eats everything. GSG 16 only eats everything. S&W 15/22 performance center , runs everything . If different ammo doesn’t cure it , send it back … 🍺🍀. Thanks for video
I'm going to try it next weekend (weather permitting) I have several different weights and velocities I want to try. Thanks for watching!
I got the process started, they're going to send me a shipping label and it'll be on its way back. Thanks for watching!
Nice video Richard
Thanks Steven!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview so Richard have you watch my videos on my TH-cam channel and hit Subscribe?
How about a fallow up video if ya get it fixed
I already started the process of sending it back and I will be doing another video. I want to explain the return process and the customer service experience I had. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReviewLooking forward to that update. 👍
@@stumpfarm3714 me too!
First nice rifle. I think accuracy will get bette, barrel will get seasoned😄. But a big bummer on hammer reset. Hope CZ will fix but a pain sending back and especially a purty rifle like that. I can't believe it's weather related either. If so that's a big bummer
I'd rather find out that something is out of spec than to find out it doesn't like the cold. Thanks for watching Hillbilly!
I know what ya mean Richard.
JimE
@@JimE6243 Bergara is another brand I want to dig into! I've heard good things about them.
JimE
HK made one back in 1983 I have one
Very cool.
Here's a pretty good video on sight picture and sight alignment, the explain it with a pistol but the theory is the same with a rifle. th-cam.com/video/QDswnjNh5I4/w-d-xo.html
@@panuvasungsopapong2891 Would love to see how you make the bolt lock open on empty magazine. อยากเห็นเลยครับว่าพี่ทำยังไงถึงทำให้ลูกเลื่อนค้างตอนกระสุนหมดได้
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview Thank you very much, it's a good video. But the goal of asking is that I want opinions . Is the buttstock of the 512 too high in your eyes?
I have same rifle ... and it's definitely particular about ammo. Winchester super-X is a total bust, and every 5th round fails to cycle. But it thrives on Hornady 30 gr v-max and Hornady Critical defense. Never fails with these. It's extremely accurate with one inch groups at 100 yards being routine. And I'm no expert shot.
The problems you are having seem extreme. Maybe truly a lemon if same results with other ammo.
I'll try a couple different brands, weights and velocities this weekend and see if anything changes. Thanks for watching!
Hate to say it, but this may be one that needs more factory TLC. Great video Richard.
I believe you are correct. Well at least it didn't happen to someone else. Lol. Thanks for the compliment and thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview You are welcome.
Good review. Looks like one to avoid. I prefer bolt action rifles as they just seem to be more reliable.
Very hard to go wrong with a bolt action. Thanks for watching!
Try 45 or 50 grains You shouldn’t have to, especially with that rifle, but it might be your ticket. And weather should have any effect.
Nonetheless go through the freakin hassle in sending her back to CZ and I believe they'll make it right. PS: Plandemic Ammo? Is the Recoil Spring too Heavy 🤔 hmmmmm
I'm planning on doing a couple more tests before returning it. You are correct, it's a hassle.
Yup you got a lemon 🍋... mine runs great and eats everything I shoot out of it
I'm beginning to think so. Thanks for watching!
no longer production model
I did not know that. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching!
No,,we go out for coyotes,,Winter,,--20 c,I have never had a problem,,But,,like you say,,You have to keep it clean,,That is a lot more powder in this 22mag than a Reg,,22,,She does get dirty 😉,
It had some other issues but CZ fixed them.
Yipes! Shame on CZ for releasing a lemon. These aren't cheap.
Oh, I know! I've already sent it back, hopefully it returns like it should. Thanks for watching!

There were some other problems but CZ fixed them, I did do a follow up video on it.
Uma ótima arma cz 512.
Este parece ter alguns problemas. Obrigado por assistir!
#1 reason for a malfunction is a bad magazine
#2 is bad ammunition
CZ's response was they adjusted the rough disconnector. Seems to work like it should now. Thanks for watching!
Send it back. Clearly there's something wrong with that rifle. I've read plenty of reviews, and watch lots on this rifle and the rifle ran flawlessly
I did, I shot a video about it too. th-cam.com/video/aPJA6WNkY94/w-d-xo.html
Imo there is no reliable semi auto 22mag in existence.
That's usually because of the nature of the ammo, but there are some that are better than others. Thanks for watching!
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview yep I agree. The case is to long and weak. Also most chambers in 22WMR are tight enough that after 50 rounds or so they get dirty enough to cause failures to feed and eject. I stick to bolt and wheelguns in this caliber.
@@tripplebeards3427 I probably clean my firearms more than most people but I have ran a couple of them for 500 rounds without cleaning and no issues. As for wheel guns! They are my FAVORITES!🤠
@@SmallCaliberArmsReview my Ruger American 22 WMR will shoot .3”s with vmax ammo but it will stick cases after 50/75 rounds. I’ve polished the chamber several times. Still doesn’t help. It’s just the nature of the beast with the caliber. I’m waiting for a refund check from Walther because my WMP wouldn’t feed and function. The magazines would wiggle up and down over a quarter inch when locked in place. Walther told me it was defective when I sent the video in. And they told me there was nothing wrong with it and they were going to send it back as is. Lol. They first told me they were sending me a replacement pistol and backed out. I asked for a replacement pistol or a refund they chose to give me a refund for some goofy reason instead of another pistol. I also had a Kel Tec PMR that went back four times in a row that they couldn’t fix and ended up getting a refund on it too. I always wanted to CZ 512 not after watching us forget it. I’m done with any semi auto automatic form of a 22 win mag. Imo it’s not possible to make them reliable.
@@tripplebeards3427 The Rossi 22M rifle I did a review on seemed to run fine as well as the Savage A22M. Rimfire has a reputation of being extremely dirty stuff and I think that needs to be taken into account when using them. There's really no avoiding it.
It may be the ammo I have found factory ammo all of the rounds don't act the same try a different brand.
The weight and velocity were correct and I used ammo out of two different lot #'s. I already have a RMA to send it back. Instead of experimenting with it, I'm going to let CZ take care of it under warranty. I plan on doing another video telling of their customer service experience when it returns. So far they've been great to work with. Thanks for watching!
I just wish they were aluminum,,,Instead of plastic,,and stay open on the last shot,,,
I agree.

I couldn't agree more! Thanks for watching!
i paid large money for a cz sp-01 pistol...i was hog hunting on my land in texas,,,pull the pistol to hopefully harvest a hog...hammer dimpled the round but would not depress to fire...i got rid of that cz and purchased a less expensive pistol...i use it all the time withzero issues...cz over rated
I've always heard good things about them, makes me wonder now! Thanks for watching!

I still want to do an accuracy video on it....soon. Thanks for watching!
Be glad your life didn't depend on that rifle.. Good Video
I agree!
Doesn’t like that ammo, not the gun find what it likes it’s not what your shooting
There was legitimately an issue with the rifle. I sent it back for repair and CZ did fix it. It now shoots great with the same ammo I used in this video.
Mine is accurate and I’ve never had an issue. It rules targets, rabbits and whatever else 22 can destroy. This fellas luck is bad and his video is not good representation of the gun. I feel his frustration though. He should do the same video in a better climate. Then he could better come to his senses and buy a new gun or shoot something else. Ffs.
I did a follow up after sending the rifle back. Thanks for watching.
