I donate blankets to a local hospital and wanted to try something different, I made a rag blanket tonight and I am so excited with the finished product! I can't wait to make more blankets this weekend!! Thank you so much for this tutorial! 💕💕💕
This is an awesome idea no more ,,,,,cutting squares. Can't wait. Looking forward to watching how you make it with a batting in between. You are an awesome teacher. Thank you Easy rag quilt,,,no cutting blocks. Super 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍🇺🇸🙏❤️🇮🇹
I love this Rag Quilt method!! How clever! My grandson is coming to visit in a week so, I’m going to whip up this blanket for him! I too, would love to watch your technique in making a larger rag quilt. Thank you for sharing! 🤗♥️
Awesome! You made it so easy and now I have a quick & easy baby quilt to make in advance- bonus is I can make a bunch and have them ready for a fast gift!! Thank you for the EASY directions!
That is really awesome I love 💕 that way a lot. Really a lot easier. Love your tutorials. Your not talking too fast and it makes it more enjoyable...lol I’m getting old. Thank you so much 😊
I luv Darlene's videos. My kinda down to earth people. She is the 1st video I actually watched and learned from. I am going to make this one for my great grand daughter Zoey. She isnt hear yet, hoping to get it done by then. Luv your channel. Can't wait to see your finished sewing room.
Belinda- Grandbabies are the BEST, aren’t they? I have 2. Darlene is fantastic and I love that she doesn’t hold back. 😊. She’s a lot of fun to watch and I love her honesty.
this is the most exciting thing I have seen in ages!!! Why do all that cutting of squares when we don't have to. I would never have thought of this; such an awesome quick little baby blankie. Thank you so much.
I LOVE that you are not a perfectionist! Thank you! I can do so many more quilts if I stop "un-sewing" all my mistakes, lol. Call me queen of the seam-ripper. I do like them to look nice, though. Tink
The best and clearest to understand tutorial I have watched. I highly recommend whether it’s your first rag quilt or your 60th. There is something for all to learn here.
Wow how easy you make it look. I am new to sewing and quilting but love it. I really am going to try this as I spent nearly all yesterday afternoon and night cutting squares for a rag quilt. Looking at you making this one I could have made 2-3 in this time! Thank you so much for showing this method.
Thank you so much for showing me how to do my FIRST BABY BLANKET. you answered all my questions before I ask them. I had no idea how to do this and this was the easiest thing I've seen.
Hello, sorry I asked about a Rag Quilt without the AccuQuilt machine 😋 before I saw this video. Thank you, another Easy Quilt for me to start with 😁💕 Erica x
My mother used to "set" a quilt every so far and the whole family was expected to do their share of hand quilting including my father and brothers. The quilting racks took over the entire parlour. It is one of my favourite memories! There were 10 children. Seeing the blocks that you make is Inspiring but I can't stop wondering how you join them to make a quilt that would fit an actual bed. Do you have a tutorial demonstrating that process. The blocks are lovely but not very practical as is. And God only knows my generation was raised to be practical, Looking forward to your response. You have made me want to quilt again.
Fronz- What a wonderful childhood memory you have. Thank you for sharing that with me! I love how everyone had to help with the quilt making. I wish that my children had the same love of quilting that I do, but unfortunately, they don’t. This particular method for making a rag quilt would be extremely difficult to make for a large bed covering. There are other methods to make a rag quilt that would be much more practical for making a bed covering. I have videos on how to use some of those methods as well. The method I recommend can be found here: th-cam.com/video/Sp1wRxV67yc/w-d-xo.html. I use an AccuQuilt fabric cutter because I have arthritis in my hands and it precuts the fringe for me. However, you could cut your squares 8 1/2”- sew them and then use Fiskars spring loaded scissors to cut the fringe. I’m so glad that you want to quilt again! Please let me know if you have any questions! I am always happy to help!
I’m not sure if anyone else asked this question, but with this method, obviously we can’t use the batting method, so can I use a third piece of flannel in the middle to make it heavier and also more fuzzy/raggy? I’m assuming I can. In the middle I usually put in a cheaper flannel that I have on hand or a colour that will accentuate the top and bottom. Thanks so much for this tutorial. You were awesome and I’m so glad I watched you. I had totally forgotten about this method. Soooo quick compared to cutting all the pieces and sandwiching them. TY.
Sue- Actually you can use batting with this method. I have done a video on how to do it. Here is the link. th-cam.com/video/3-fxaWiy8jI/w-d-xo.html Also, you are correct in that with this method you would have to put some appliqué to or different fabric on top to change the squares. That is the only downfall to this method in my opinion. :)
Wow, How cool is this! How do you like this compared to the Accuquilt method of cutting your blocks and sewing? I just bought a Go Big! And I’m wondering if I wasted my money when I could do it this way.
Cathey- I love this method, but I prefer the AccuQuilt. The AccuQuilt cuts so many more things than just rag quilts. I use the strip dies to make my binding and borders. I like this method for something quick, but because I have arthritis in my hands the fringing is a little cumbersome for me and for that reason, I like the AccuQuilt better. I think you will love the GO Big as you go along in your quilting journey because you will see that it has a lot to offer in the ways of cutting fabric. Not too mention, you can cut multiple layers of fabric at one time and they all come out perfect every time. That's just my 2 cents. 😊 And I'm sorry I didn't respond sooner. TH-cam put your question in the held for review folder. I have no idea why. I hope I've helped answer your question.
I love this idea! I just happened to stumble on your video, I was just looking at sewing videos. My neighbor was looking for an easy rag quilt to make for a gift, I shared your video with her. This is perfect and I love your explanations and demo! I have got yo make some of these myself! Thank you!
This is not the traditional way of making a rag quilt, but in my mind, so much easier. Of course you can’t add different colours to the top or bottom but you can always go back and do a transfer on top like a heart or a circle or a square or initials, etc. Going to try this method too.
you just saved me hundreds !!! I like making rag quilts but I can never cut the fabric perfect . I was going to buy a fabric cutting machine today ! Thank you so much
What a GREAT way to make a raggy quilt! I’m definitely going to have to try to make one using this method. How much fabric would you recommend for twin/queen/king size beds? I’d be super grateful for that info! 💕
Janet- I think it would depend on what size flannel you are going to use, which will determine how much fabric you would need. If you are wanting to make a rag quilt that large, I would recommend purchasing the WIDE flannel from Joanns. It is much larger than regular flannel off the bolt. I am guessing at the yardage you would need. I would say that for a twin size, you would want at least 2 yards of the WIDE Flannel. For a Queen Size, 3 to 4 yards, and you will probably have to piece it so that you can get the width. Since the width of fabric varies with each fabric, you'd have to look at the width on the bolt and calculate from there. Sorry I'm not much help here, but that's how I would go about it. Happy Quilting! :)
I`d like to see you do one larger too. My granddaughter wants to me make a rag (queen, or full size) with some of her baby clothes on top. Sounds too complex.Wonder if this will work and hand sew the clothes on top.I hope you have a few suggestions. Thanks
