    I recommend you pick this quilt is a king size pillowcase. Then wash it. Take the pillowcase outside to remove the quilt from it and shake it really good. Getting replaced the quilt in the pillowcase and dry. Again take outside to remove from pillow case. Believe me I learned the hard way.

      I forgot to say Pin or baste the end of the case closed.
      This will save your washer drain and dryer lint screen.

    YOU ARE AWESOME!!! I just got a cheap Brother sewing machine for my birthday and am learning to sew. I have made the kleenex holders and now this rag quilt. Cant wait to make the rest of the items on your channel! you are an amazing teacher! Thanks again!!!!

    I just found your channel and have already watched about 10 of your videos…so far! NOW..I’m going to be facetious for a moment and say thank you so much for just getting into the tutorial and not into a whole backstory about nothing that has to do with the sewing instructions!!😂😂😂 but seriously, your videos are amazing. I cannot praise you enough on your tutorial style. It’s very precise, easy to follow and it’s extremely fun to watch. I am so happy your channel was in my feed this morning. AND!!! I want to make myself a denim quilt and I have a bunch of pre-cut squares that I was going to use but I am doing this instead. This way is brilliant! THANK YOU!!❤❤❤

    Mind blown! What an easy way to make a rag quilt! I just got several yards of flannel today that I had planned on using to make the cutting all the squares rag quilts. I’ll now be using the to use this method! Thank you!

    Finished up. Very large rag 54 10” squares quilt yesterday, and everything was going well, until I got down to the last 2 rows, before time to snip. Looking down at the layout, which was correct, except the seams were on the bottom, all the seams. My heart fell, and my first thought, “insane”, was I need to unpick every seam. Thank goodness, it was savable, since the quilt is for an adult, who I think will appreciate the pretty side being un ragged.

    This idea is GENIUS!!!!!!!!! I made a small one to try it out and it was amazing. I want to tackle a queen size with batting next. Do you think, to make it more manageable, I could cut the 108" x 90" piece of fabric into 4 equal rectangles, do each one like a small quilt and then sew them all together at the end??

    I have searched the internet to try to find a way to take a small rag quilt like this , and add a couple more to make a larger one. I’d love to see a video on that!

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Thanks for the idea Maureen! I think I will do that! But in the meantime all you would do is make, let's say 4, small quilts and then before doing any of the snipping you would lay the quilts edges together and sew across around 1/2 to 1" in. They will be connected and you can rag that edge just like you would any other edge. So you sew the blankets together first before any ragging happens. But for a larger quilt like that you would probably need to have the blanket washed at a laundromat instead of your home washing machine. Hope that helps! Happy sewing :)

    I like this idea. Im looking to make a king quilt using simple cotton fabric. Fat quarters or actually drop cloth seem cheapest. Ive been looking over 2 years for plain solid color beigh quilt since we bought our king bed. We had one for our queen. These were sold in target. Now the off shore made has very bad reviews to lies about being cotton, chemical and bad smells and reselling used ones?! I have sewn over 60 years. But not really a quiltery though I have done jean ragged square tote bags and free motion and appluque as decor on bags, jackets etc. I love this method. I dont really want a rag quilt, but want pieces I can imitage quilting. Dont think I even want batting unless If I can find cheap fleece or plain sheets. I may make a few small samples and flat feld the seams on top. But its such a great time saver showig the seams then cutting. Gives me ideas what to do.

    I’ve made several rag quilts by piecing blocks together. I love rag quilts! I think I’m going to give this a try with some flannels that I have that have some fun bright prints and a nice contrasting solid on the back. I’ve had some of my blocks not catch all the fabric in the seams and I’d have to go back and fix it. I wouldn’t have to worry about that doing it this way. And it seems like it would go a lot faster as well.

    Excellent tutorial. Do you think I can I use one side flannel material and the other side fleece material?
    Edit: I just did some research and I don't believe it would be a good idea to use fleece. Fleece will not "rag" so in case anyone else has the same question, that's my researched answered.

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well I am glad you found your answer Joan :) . I would say that you could attempt it as long as both fabrics were prewashed. As flannel and fleece shrink at different rates. You are right however that you wouldn't get the same ragged look. But people have done regular rag quilts with minky and they turn out nice. The ragged seams just end up looking a bit chunkier and don't rag up.

      Thank you for this! And thank you for getting down to business without a lot of filler in your video. When watching an instructional video that is all I want to see. So many channels will talk, talk, talk and 95% of the time it is not pertinent to the subject. You gave the instructions, gave visual content and got the job done. New subscriber here!!!!

    Can you add a third layer of flannel for more ragging?

    • @TamarasJoyDIY
      @TamarasJoyDIY  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I havn't done it but I don't see why you couldn't. I would just recommend using a stronger needle, maybe one for jeans as you will be sewing through a lot of layers. Let me know how it goes!😍

      For sure! You can fold more seams to create smaller looking squares, that of course takes more time so I didn't do that but it would look great! Let me know if you try it! Happy Sewing!
