How to program a Chevrolet Tahoe remote key fob 1996 - 1999

1. Locate Data Link Port. It is located under dash on drivers side. Be sure you know which pins are 8 and 4.
2. Make sure there are metal contact pins in terminals 8 and 4. Connect 8 to 4 with a suitable jumper wire ( leave the jumper wire connected throughout the programming procedure). Make sure you know which terminals are 8 and 4. The vehicle will respond by locking and unlocking the doors to signify entering of programming mode.
3. Press and hold both the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons together on the first remote to be programmed and after about 15 seconds, the vehicle will respond by locking and unlocking the doors. Release buttons on remote.
4. Within one minute, repeat step 3 on the remaining remotes to be programmed.
5. Remove jumper wire applied to OBDII port. - ยานยนต์และพาหนะ
This is legit. Programmed my 99 Tahoe, my girlfriends 97 GMC Suburban, and my moms Silverado! This channel is great!

have a 96 Tahoe 2 door Sport, power everything, fancy seats. Should have keyless. What is the clue it may have been equipped? This vehicle shares not much of anything with the 4 door Tahoe series, which began same year. 2 door was end of line in 1996, prior design, electrical. They share 5.8L and therefore the same ECM. BCM? not sure. I saw a reference about glove box sticker. Asked dealer to look up VIN and he said NO, not equipped. Is there a electrical box object under dash that controls the keyless I can hunt for?
I am trying to program the remote for my 97 Chevy Express van. I have a paper clip that I connect to ports 4 and 8 on the OBD connector. After I plug in the paper clip to ports 4 and 8, there is no response. The door locks are supposed to cycle and then be put into programming mode but they aren't. What am I doing wrong?

Hello, I have carried out the entire procedure but it does not work on a 1997 and a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe. When puncturing pins 4 and 8 of the OBDII connector, the central locking closes and opens, but then when you hold down unlock and lock for up to 60 seconds, it does not work. nothing happens. The controls are with new batteries. What could be happening or missing?
If the vehicle is going into programming mode but not responding to the remote - there may be an issue with he remote you are using

No, you don't have to have the key in the ignition.

1996 tahoe does not use a chipped key - so no programming is needed
I have a 1995 suburban. The obd port only has 12 pins, 6 on top and 6 on bottom. I have done a lot of research trying to program a key fob but nothing works. I cant get the truck to go into programming mode. Maybe you can help?

@@PYR-Auto I looked at the sticker in the glovebox and it didn't come with factory keyless entry. When I bought it he gave me a key fob with it so I just assumed it did.
My 1995 GMC K2500 Suburban does NOT have keyless entry & it has OBT1, not 2...

You just need to have the factory remote option installed - not all did in those years

When I did it on my 1996 suburban I connect the wire to start the cycle but my remote key will not connect to it or it will not response at all
Are you sure your Suburban has the factory remote option? Not all did in 1996

@@djh254 If you look at the connector under the dash that's shown in the video, there will only be pins in the slots 4 and 8 if the vehicle is set-up for factory remotes. You can also take your VIN # and call a GM dealership's parts department and they can look of the original build sheet for the vehicle and see if it has that option.
@@PYR-Auto you can also check in the glove box there are some equipment codes and the code for keyless entry is “AU0” if it’s there then it’s equipped with it
Ok I have a 99 gmc suburban with the Au0 code doors cycle but when I do the buttons on the remote NOTING they don’t connect an I got new ones from Amazon??? Plz help
I’m not sure why but it didn’t work on my Tahoe. Paperclip cycles the locks, but the fob didn’t work. I opened it up and made sure it wasn’t a battery issue. Not sure
Since the vehicle is entering programming mode it does sound like an issue with the fob iteself.
@@PYR-Auto I believe they sent me the wrong fob (eBay)
I have a 2000 Tahoe z71 but they sent me one for the regular 2000 Tahoe when the z71 still has the obs body style. I believe that is the issue.

1995 and 1996 have a good more rectangle remote not this rounded one. Late 95 had obd2 and all 96 had obd2. The remote in video is for use in 1997-98 trucks and 97-2000 suv. Please update video.
The style of the remote does not indicate what programming procedure is used, the years are correct as listed.
When I did these the remote didn't work but now my doors are not working to lock
