Combat Tips:
-If an enemy has a gun, it's generally advisable to get close and stay to their back or sides. If other enemies make it hard, hide behind boxes, jump around, or get to a better position.
-If an enemy has a bat, stay the hell away. Backflip while firing, and jump+flip over their head, don't be at their front or they bonk you.
-Dogs cannot climb up boxes, human enemies can and will. If dealing with a dog, just get someplace they can't or quickly kill them.
In general: Be cheap, stay elevated, be acrobatic, don't be in a spot you can be hit, use pistols when you are completely safe from the opponent, and prioritize targets.
Two important things the game never tells you about, regarding the moves Lara can perform in Tomb Raider II!
1. When you have flares and you want to pull one out, press 'Select' and 'Right Shoulder Button'. Lara will automatically pull out and light a flare, instead of you having to go into the inventory screen.
2. (This might be a Tank controls problem only, I don't know, but just in case!) Lara can now somersault in mid-air to reverse directions, just like rolling while on the ground. This will be necessary to finish the game. There will be a couple of points in the game where you need to backflip _and then_ somersault in mid-air to quickly reverse the direction you're facing! To somersault in the air, press and hold the 'Roll' button. To somersault while climbing (to switch to a ladder directly behind you), backflip while climbing and then immediately press the 'Roll' button, followed by the action button to catch the opposite ladder. This is not easy, but it's crucial.
I’ll try remember this haha thanks
In some circumstances I found the twisting flips easier without the roll button but by moving analog sick or dpad into opposite direction than when you initialized the jump. E.g. you do a backflip and quickly press forward, or you jump forwards and quickly press backward.
Even though this is objectively more complicated since it depends on direction, it felt better after getting used to it
Okay, entirely fair about vehicle controls. You CAN climb onto the boat from water. I think it was grab/action? You have to be paddling on the water, and faceing the side of the boat.
Also, each vehicle has a... secondary function, whether to boost their speed (in exchange for taking damage when hitting something), or... other functions.
I would try it out, because the game does not explain it outside the manual, but I think it's R2 or Triangle! You got this handsome!
Yes grab/action.
AAAAAA IT HAPPENING!
Okay, almost every single level has exactly three secrets. Three dragons in total: one Jade, one Gold, one Silver.
They grant nothing independently, but the moment you pick up the third in a level, you get something fantastic.
I'm... sure you've noticed, but the game's difficulty starts significantly harder than TR1, and only escalates. TR3 only continues the trend.
This was my first video game, and it kicked my ass a lot.
So excited to see your reactions to some of the crazy shit incoming!!
Haha I'm ready for the pain! Thanks for the info :)
You missed the best part of the first level. At the end of the great wall before the zip line you drop down and there is a huge cave with a secret and a t rex in.
@@thehound55 if you dont go on the zipline and climb down the cliff, you would have fought a few giant enemies, you may have met before
Looking forward to this playthrough. I wasn't expecting it so soon since I thought you were going to focus on the reboot first (which unfortunately doesn't interest me). Either way I've got something to look forward to watching. 👍
Lol @1:55 You were actually supposed to slide down the slope and then jump and grab the net but it was funny watching Lara's neck being saved from being broken by shallow water nonetheless. 😂😜😜
"I DON'T WANT TEA, GET OUT OF HERE!" But I thought the Irish loved their ☕? 🤔😁
Yeah you picked up another large medipack alongside the shotgun shells.
@20:28 Seriously love the editing here, so funny. 🤣🤣
Btw a few tips: Lara jumps forwards faster than she can run so just keep that in mind (as in TR1). Also don't forget that Lara can strafe/backflip left and right but with modern controls you need to have her guns out; might wanna practice that. Edit: In fact I *STRONGLY* urge you to practice her sideflips *AND* backflips as this can help with evading enemies as well as helping to face/fire at enemies behind Lara (Lara can roll in the air and, if you immediately press a button (I know it's O on the playstation 4/5 with tank controls at least) she immediately flips and faces the other way which can help when you're up against enemies that are behind you. *
I know people who already mentioned this but _DON'T_ overuse your medipacks. If you lose health due to, say carelessness, it's sometimes better to reload and try again (so SAVE, SAVE, SAVE!). It's been a long while since I've played TR2 so I could be wrong but I think this one is less forgiving with medipacks than the first, it's certainly more difficult than the first game at least BUT You've still got TR3 to look forward to...😁😜
*@28:03 and this is one of many reasons why. You don't want to be in front of an enemy that can smack your face with a bat! Edit: Oh yeah it'll also help because at times you may need to backflip off ladders and what have you.
Hahaha we do love our tea in fairness. Appreciate the tips :)
One of my favourite games of all time. Am actually replaying it myself now for the millionth time with the remastered version. Loved your TR1 playthrough and looking forward to see how you get on!
Hell yeah:)

Sorry, I've commented a lot on this one, I just wanted to say, this was a joy to watch! 😂 Your Remastered playthroughs have been just great.
Thank you buddy
Awesome dude, Another epic adventure begins, let's gooo
Yesssir :)
I find Lara's bathroom hilarious. There is no door for the bathroom. No shower curtains and there are 2 toilet seats lol, that too in front of the door-less entrance
Lmao the butler getting a peep
YESSS WE ARE STARTING TOMB RAIDER 2!! You'll love this one. Also if you can't see certain areas or if they are too dark, there is a button to automatically light a flare
Good call
Ah this was the first Tomb Raider game I ever played, and yes as others have mentioned, the difficulty jump from TR1 to TR2 is staggering. Have fun :)
I’m so excited for you to play this one !! My fave tomb raider
I love that after people struggled with vehicles in TR2, Core doubled down and made the vehicles even harder to control in TR3. At least with 2 I didn't actually have to look up online how to boost.
Oh boy, the modern controls will actually make Tomb Raider 2 and 3 much more difficult for you with some of the platforming that is required! Also there is a vehicular training section in Lara’s Home you might want to check out - they typically will have a rev button too to get extra speed up! I’ve seen some people switch to tank controls just during some of the platforming to save some grief! I’m loving watching you go through these fans I love so much and seeing someone else experience them for the first time as I’m getting my first replay in over 20 years!
You're doing good so far! I recommend reloading more frequently if you lose too much health due to silly mistakes, like when you miscalculate a jump or get bonked too many times by enemies. If you burn through all your medipacks you won't have enough to get you through the harder levels. Trust me, Venice is a cake walk compared to what comes later.
Thanks. Venice wasn't that hard but I haven't got use to dealing with the humans yet. I hope there is enough medi packs in the game for me.
So excited to watch this series, my fave game from my childhood ❤ loved your TR1 play through! The great wall is an epic introduction to any game
It is indeed, cant wait to play more
If you get time at the end of TR2 you have to redo the great wall, possibly the best secret in the game is down there at the end of the level, just make sure you have the stone and jade dragon beforehand.
Ah really? Shit hahaha
Love this series lol was so funny knowing u thought you had to jump on the boat to get in xD as for the controls for the boat and everything, this game wasn't designed for a modern remake.. back then we used to get a game manual, where it told us the controls so wont be in the game
Also, when you suspect there are levers or keyholes but you can't find them, try switching briefly to the old graphics. Sometimes the remaster of TR2 changes the lighting and textures and brutally hides the interactive objects on walls.
My favorite game of all time. Excited to see you take this on
:D
Yes! So glad you decided to continue on, will be an exciting journey. :) This one along with 3 is my favorite, i can't realy decide which one i like more, so i'll just say i like em equally. :D
Haha hell yeah, excited for both
Ahhh Venice…..my favorite level! Or maybe I’m bias because the original copy of TR1 I had had a demo for this game and I played it constantly! It wasn’t until years later I discovered it was only half the level
I'm so excited to see you become a Tomb Raider fan! I've been enjoying the back and forth of this classic trilogy and the survivor one and maybe after these you'll give the legend/anniversary/underworld trilogy a try. These games are really loved by the TR community myself included and Lara is so badass in them :)
I definitely might do that!!
Right off the bat this one feels like a big improvement. The first level makes a way better first impression than the first game and the opening cinematic was directed in a cool way. I liked that POV shot, felt like it was a homage to popular first person games of the 90s like doom. This one already looks way harder too excited to see you overcome the challenges and all the rage that comes along the way. Sanakagy trolling the medkit miss was gold 😂 Cheers!
Wow 33:10 I had no idea you could jump from there!
The tiger and spider reveals 😂😂😂😂 hands down favourite TH-camr right here keep it up mate 👏
Haha thank you so much mate :)
I’m kinda sad he didn’t get the other enemy reveal during this level 😏 okay not sad but was looking forward to his reaction 😂
OMG as soon as I saw the butler on the assault course the memories came flooding back in lol. Loved this game. We played in on the Dreamcast
TR2 was my first experience with Tomb Raider; back in the day when they had PC demo discs, about half of the first level was a demo, and my siblings and I played it so much that it's burned into my brain haha. There were no instructions so we figured out the controls by experimenting. I remember how awesome it was to be playing a 3d game with big environments, things have come a long way!
TR3 is probably my favourite!
The remasters look nicely done overall and it's nice to watch someone play them for the first time!
That’s awesome man, loving hearing stuff like this haha
The relics are the secrets. 3 secrets on each level: 1 Silver (White), 1 Jade (Green), 1 Gold
35:00 this is why you use the tank controls. it is easy to get in and out of the boat. You can just climb into the boat with tank controls. Press X to get in and out of vehicles.
I been playing this game since 1997 and the gam is not buggy, it is not meant for modern controls.
At E3 that year, the teaser trailer they showed for this game was just a closeup of Lara’s circular “assets”.
Not really but that would have been awesome
You should be able to climb in the boat I don't know modern controls but in class in its forward and action.
I recommend keeping an eye out for the secrets if you find all 3 you get some good loot. Lara has a bigger Arsenal this time and it will usually give you the weapons you missed. If you get all 3 in the 1st level you get the grande launcher early.
You can press the shoot button to climb up to the boat same as picking up the items
A shame you missed out on the special surprise on the great wall, plus if you get all 3 secrets you get a grenade launcher (something i wish i knew when i was 8!) TR2 is certainly harder man but TR1 serves as such a great intro to these games and you nailed that. Started this today and it reminded me how much i hate those bloody silenced pistol guys they drove me insane. Me and my best friend in primary school were obsessed with this game when we were younger it’s so nice to revisit it. Hope you enjoy, some fantastic levels on this one. Floating islands is creepy gonna be fun to see you play that one.
Idk if the upcoming patch will fix this, but the reason the camera is such a pain is because unlike the original controls where the camera is fixed behind you, the modern controls lets you freely move the camera around Lara and since the game has a lot of tight spaces the camera is constantly fighting the walls as well. Other than that, really liked the video, TR2 is much harder than 1 just like TR3 is a lot harder than it's predecessor. So please, be patient with this one😅once you get the formula it's gg.
So happy to see you do TR2, i think a lot of people like this game but i think some people upon revisiting are realizing this is probably the weakest in the trilogy, there's so many human enemies in this one which breaks the immersion a bit. Plus the 6 level stretch in the middle you'll get tired of, but some levels are stunning like Level 4, 12 and 15 🔥 can't wait to see those
I finally got it a few hours went straight to TR2 .. I'm just about start the opera house
Triangle is the button to get on the boat haha. Nice on you to figure out the button for boost though! The vehicle controls are pretty confusing even veterans cannot get out of said vehicles a lot of the times lolol. Make sure to remember Triangle to get on vehicle, Circle and left/right on left analog stick, X to boost. Just in case you know? *_hint hint_*
Ah yes this game is amazing! I love that they had the balls to say who cares about new players, we should challenge the returning players. They really didn't hold anything back! Prepare to die a lot!
Lol I'm ready
I dont know whether it still works, but back in the day, in the boathouse, I didnt go up the exit ramp in the boat after pressing the switch. I swam back under the door instead. This didn't trigger the timer for the exit, so I just swam to the end, under the mines, and missed out 3/4 of the level, finishing it in about 5 minutes 😂
Haha that’s insane
Can't wait to watch this series 😊😊
Cant wait for more as well
If you press jump when climbing ladders you can backflip off - providing there is floorspace behind you! lol
33:02 lol, you got some glitch there. I mean you shouldn't make that jump from there, but the other window through the open door.
See the spiders: "Nope, nope, nope. This is the end of this game". 🤣🤣🤣
Tip1: Health packs are MUCH SCARCER in this game than TR1. Use your big weapons, explore secrets and pickups. You only get the secret's loot when you get the 3 secrets of each level.
Tip2: Use more slots to save the levels, you may need it.
Tomb raider 2 is the GOAT
Man these modern controls look so bad 😅 tank nation here lol
Agreed. The modern controls disrespect the game tbh. By that I mean the game is intended to be played on the grid system and once you get used to it, it just works so damn well. I did try to give modern a chance but it was just awful and tedious to perform simple tasks vs tank controls.
@@christianhorton1141it is very easy once you get used to it. I'm good at tank and modern so that's definitely a skill issue you have. 😂 Hahaha
@@christianhorton1141I agree. It just feels so weird playing with modern controls. I just beat 1 for the first time and it was crazy how much I mastered the tank controls. It just feels so comfortable and polished
Omg y'all are so annoying with your sense of superiority just from playing tank controls
The jump had be broken 😂😂😂😂😂😂
The visual glitch on the ladder is really trippy, I dunno which version you're playing but that is not supposed to happen XD
Tomb raider 4 is still by far my favorite. 2 is second then 1 and 3 last . Everything after that till the remake was garbage.
I enjoy watching you though i wish you would give your 2 centc to the experience at the end or at the beginning of the episode.
Mostly curious how this game series is shaping your opinion about gaming. I dont know nothing about you but i would imagine this is the first time you played a 3d game from the past where there is no map no hand holding and great exploration.
And would like to know if you think these older games where more memorable and more rewarding than what we have nowdays. Cuz i wonder if its truly just nostalgia that brings me back to the past or is it about better game mechanics from an era where games where made by gamers and they went abive and beyond to come up with something fresh and amazing.
Cuz let me tell you , the last few years this remaster and robocop where the games that made me live gaming again.
Just too tired of all these on rail games with very little exploration and zero challenge. Souls series got close but thats more like the stockholm syndrom of gaming rather than what i would call a fun challenge.
And i grew up with games like toki and ghosts and ghouls and other sadistic games
Good luck. The levels only get harder
😥
Honestly man try learn the skills with the tank controls it will make it so much easier for yourself. im going to try play tr2 again with modern controls and it looks hard as hell to control😅
lets gooo TR 1 2 and 3 are the best.
you missed a secret in first level where you encounter 2 t-rex which are more powerful than first tomb raider.
We didn't need a game to hold our hand
Nitro-Hound!
The background moving on ladders goes away later in the game, im guessing its a bug
Weird lol
Am I the only one who hated this game? Honestly, TR1 is the only one of the classic games that I actually liked.
I was beginning to think that I was the only one. TR1 was the best, and a perfect foundation for future games although I found myself very disappointed with 2. The third one was coming back too its roots although could never hold a candle to the first one. TR1 & resident evil 1 where my first two games I got for the ps1 Christmas 96 when I was twelve.
i dont hate it, i just wish it didnt have magic spawning enemies and less human enemies and whatever the stupid springs are in the later levels
i would say don't even bother with new tomb raider games but it will be totally your call of course.
Jump off of ladders;)
You should be figuring things out for yourself, the game doesn't need to explain anything
