    thanks for watching everyone!
Some people have brought up the change in ashas hair, I do think I should’ve played around with more ideas to get it closer to the original, my mind was just going to the most simple I could go with it still being braids as the classic Disney style relies more on shapes then smaller details, so I made them thicker and less rendered than I usually would. It was a oversight on my part, I’m sorry if this took away from the design at all, I’ll try to be more thorough in the future❤

Shy Asha would've felt more confident and the curious star would've had his curiosity quenched with Asha showing him around AND you could've had a significant 7 dwarves, I mean, her friends, teach the star some things so they would've had some kind of relevance and make her friends likable to us, the audience.

I actually think having Star be human but nonverbal would be great! We had Ariel who was nonverbal for like 70% of little mermaid. I think having a male lead be nonverbal, would both make things more difficult and intriguing, while being a recall to past movies like they want, (bonus points because as a nonverbal kid myself I would have fallen in love with him 😭😭)

Imagine she always faced a bit of discrimination because she wasn't a legitimate child (she would probably receive smark remarks from the court, "friends"). This along with the pressure from her parents. She would feel the constant need to prove herself and achieve more. Therefore, causing her to be more anxious, scared of disappointing them, low self esteem, grow even more reserved as she got older etc. Then our little star boy is going to slowly break her out and help her to see she doesn't need to prove herself. Help her see her worth and build her confidence. This show could have been so good

Well, I've heard about this demo of one of the songs from the film being a kind of romantic duet with Asha & presumably Starboy, so perhaps he just isn't used to speaking & communicates differently from humans, he can learn how to communicate with Asha while being able to pick up on nonverbal cues, & the duet can be this moment where Star & Asha have this romantic heart to heart thingy! Idk about how I'd fix the plot yet.

I wish that they had kept the concept designs for Asha with her natural hair out and the red orange color palette. When I think purple Disney princess I think Rapunzel and Isabella. The story would have worked so much if she was Magnifico and Amaya's actual daughter since not only is she a princess but there's conflict. I would've definitely gone the sympathetic route with Magnifico and have him be a paranoid man who is just trying to protect everyone. I also would've made Asha's personality more similar to Elsa and Mulan rather that Anna and Rapunzel

yeah i mean, i like the concept of his motives being good, but he went about it the wrong way. someone said it wouldve been cool if he was trying to protect the city bc if everyone got their wish, it could have negative affects on the city. furthermore, asha wouldve tried to grant these wishes but then see those affects for herself as the city began to fall apart, and then they see another solution

I think having Star be Invisible during daytime would open up some HILARIOUS comedic potential, but my first thought was that it could be more of a "Glow in the dark" situation. Like, if they're in direct sunlight they're almost indistinguishable from an normal human, but in shadowy/dark places, or in the dark of night, he'd Glow like the shining star he is.

I am so here for the evil parents concept. Magnifico and Amaya being horrible people but also devoted parents adds so much depth. They don't have to be redeemable, just two powerful people amassing even more power for their daughter's inheritance. Maybe Asha is initially close to her father who is both paranoid about protecting her and puts a ton of pressure on her to follow in his footsteps, until she realizes what he's actually doing. It's kind of an inverse Mother Gothel situation, in that Magnifico and Amaya genuinely love their daughter but it's still totally toxic.

@dragonsman4733 this is the stupidest thing I ever heard. Love doesn't make you weak, nor did any of the old princesses weak. In fact, the love they felt for the romantic interest made them stronger, braver
Romance was never their sole motivation, nor it should've been. But the idea of "romance makes you weak" shows me they not only don't understand their movies, but that they forgot what made Disney good

Maybe Asha and Stat could've had a forbidden romance. They could've fallen in love over the course of the movie and Star would have no choice but to go back up into the sky. Basically a message of loving someone is learning how to let them go.
A happier scenario could be either Star becoming a human and marrying Asha, or Asha becoming a star herself and joining other stars in the heavens.
Disney could've used different folklore and fairytales with similar scenarios as inspiration for Wish, other than the ones that they've already adapted.

Excluding the fact about a romantic partner, this movie is basically us watching from a villains perspective. Asha just comes off as a completely narcissistic person. She's so set on letting everybody have their wishes back and thinks that whatever she thinks HAS to be correct. Meanwhile, the king built a town, lets everybody live there FOR FREE. NO TAX. He built a functional part of society, and giving your wishes to him was OPTIONAL. It wasn't even compulsory. He listened to his wife multiple times throughout the movie despite being "evil" and having lost his mind. Going to show that he still had basic humanity.
Later on his wife was literally FORCED to join Asha's side due to the star. Her friends were also kinda forced to join her because they were outed infront of the town, and now if they didn't help her, they'd get caught for nothing.
Every time he attacked someone, they never even got seriously hurt. When he destroyed the wishes, all people felt was fucking bad for like, 2 seconds, and they were back to normal. Also, just because he took one wish away, doesn't mean you cannot create another one. That's human nature. I found myself rooting for him tbh. This is why the animators so desperately made him look evil at the end because he just wasn't compensating in the evil personality section.
This mans whole world just got ruined because some teenage girl one day just decided that the way he rules wasn't fit and everybody sided with her, giving him zero respect. Asha had to SING about how evil the king was for people to realise it. Which in reality, if he was actually evil, she wouldn't have had to do that.
Thats just how i saw this film. Not at all a feel good movie. If anything, it was annoying. I really liked the potential Asha held, but they completely ruined it. She never even got a charactor arc for us to maybe relate to her more. No backstory. No nothing. The movie ended with the power being given to Asha. (Or something like that) so it basically just went from one dictator to another. I doubt Asha has any knowledge about ruling and running a whole town and seeing her selfishness throughout the movie, i doubt she would make good decisions.

I love the idea of her being a more shy or just a socially distant character. Now she doesn’t have to be overly shy or the stereotypical “shy character” but a character who likes being reserved and is more soft spoken. One thing I think would be cool is if she used actions rather than words. Like if she saw someone struggling to lift something maybe she just walks up, helps them then walks away. Doesn’t say “oh let me help you with that”, and makes conversation, just helps then walks away. This would establish that she is considerate and kind, just doesn’t like speaking much or knows how to socialize well. It also makes sense since if she is the adopted daughter of the king and queen, it’s safe to assume she is used to being alone. I just think it’s a funny thought lol, imagine you are an older women trying to load your cart when all of the sudden the kings daughter walks up, picks up all your stuff, loads it for you. Then walks away without saying a word, maybe she lets out a smile but says nothing. Some people use actions rather than words and I think showing that in a character would be great.

With Asha however, she still can and will talk but she CHOOSES not to a lot of times because she doesn’t always want to use her words. For her she would be distant because she chooses to be. Asha is supposed to be half black North African Maghreb. I wish they had added more Maghreb influence to her design. The black North Africans like the Haratin, the Tuareg, and other Sahelians have a lot of intricate headwear with beads and coins and shells adoring their braids. Frankly, I wish the whole movie was set in North Africa rather than Spain. Disney has lots of movies set in Europe or European inspired kingdoms. They missed the opportunity to set one in Africa which they have never done before besides Tarzan (who spends most of his time in the jungle) and the Lion King (which gave us the best Disney soundtrack) but they're all lions and you see nothing of the people in Tanzania where it takes place. Frankly, Asha's world looks just like Aurora's. I think it's the same time period in Europe. So they could have used this movie to do something different with the setting as well.

I think what would make the plot even better is if Asha believed her parents' doctrine initially. She could be their little villain-in-training, instead of her being this perfect, good person right from the get-go. Through spending time with Star, leaving the castle walls and experiencing the world for herself, she could see the world for what it truly is (for the non-royals) and develop her own judgments. A story about growing up, making the difficult decision to turn your back on your toxic family, becoming your own person and establishing your own beliefs. Plus a love story with a celestial being? I'm about to make a long comment about what I would've done lol.
My rewrite focused mostly on the idea that King Magnifico is a corrupted wishing star.
I really liked your idea that wishing stars only have so much energy to use on earth before having to leave to "recharge" in a sense. So the way the king is able to stay on earth is that instead of granting wishes, he absorbs them. Hopes and dreams are powerful in this world, so a wishing star taking wishes will make him powerful. I also think he would be studying earth magic, so he is pretty much unstoppable(or supposed to be). His wife is the one who wished upon a star, which was him. She is the classic power-hungry villain and is last in line for the thrown so she wants to meet her true potential by bringing down those who looked down on her. So basically, Magnifico takes the "wishes" of Amaya's family and they just watch the kingdom burn since the royal family has no motivations or dreams to rule it, leaving the kingdom in ruin. This is the kingdom Magnifico says he is traumatized by, but he's actually about what really happened.
Magnifico and Amaya make the kingdom of Rosas and have a daughter and live "happily ever after".
That is until Starboy comes in and crashes the party.
So in conclusion, King Magnifico and Queen Amaya would be seen as a generic fairytale couple that got their happy ending, but it's very clear that they're not telling the whole truth and are actually the villains. And now Asha would have to deal with standing up to her parents after listening to their lies for so long with the help of the star she wishished upon. I do like the idea that she's shy and reserved because she just agreed with what her parents wanted from her. She was basically being controlled like the rest of the kingdom.
Oh, and I have a somewhat different way on how wishes work. Magnifico doesn't just steal away a small wish, he steals away a person's hopes and dreams which makes them feel hollow because they forgot a part of themselves.
And even when Magnifico grants someone's wish, it happens instantly. The person doesn't get to expirience working up to their goals because someone already did it for them so they're sad no matter what when they give up their wish and get it granted.
Real wishing stars *help* a person grant their wish. They help work for it, not make it come true instantly. But since Magnifico is a corrupted and powerful wishing star, he has the power to grant it immediately.
So it brings a nice theme of people should be working to their goals instead of waiting for someone to do it for them.

i think wish [and disney as a whole] is struggling with an identity crisis. they want to remind people of all the masterpieces that made disney the household name it is today, but they also want to cast that tradition aside as "old news" for something new... but they have no idea what direction they want to go in. and their main appeal is still those classics, so they end up with a product that doesnt know what it wants to be besides a vehicle for nostalgia-bait.
i love your redesigns! choosing not to make star humanoid was such a mistake on their part, i adore your design ❤️

This! Plus it seems like Disney has lost its daring attitude and has gone full corporate. Encanto thrived because it was an interesting story that wasn't afraid to play it safe. Meanwhile, the writing is literally on the wall for how badly Wish wanted to be something but got pulled back for marketability reasons (completely also unaware of what the market is craving). The biggest example is the romance, people don't hate romance, they just get bored of samesy true love at first sight with nothing more past that. Make it fun, make it interesting but don't just say nevermind instead of trying.

You hit the nail on the head! I think this is how to perfectly describe the state that they're in right now. They want to appease both the side of the audience that misses those movies they grew up on, and the side that's looking for material with more diversity in both characters and their relationships, without realizing that both sides aren't necessarily opposing! They also seem to have one single idea of what it means to be diverse and empowering for women, which is what has led to a lot of their current issues in plot development and characterization.

The problem I have with Asha is that she has no reason to be this quirky, "adorkable" character unlike Rapunzel, Anna, Moana, and Mirabel.
Rapunzel and Anna were locked away for most of their lives and are thus naive and excitable. Moana strives to explore outside her island for most of her life but is kept from doing so, so her excitement is understandable. Mirabel uses her upbeat and bubbly personality as compensation for her being the only Madrigal child without a gift. She exerts herself to feel special like her family.
But Asha? Aside from the day of her interview with King Magnifico, she has no reason to act the way she does. It's an oversimplification of the previous modern female protagonists because it's marketable, but like every other trope used in this movie, they forgot they had to add to it to make it special.
Also I say Asha looks more similar to Isabela before 'What Else Can I Do'. Someone even compared their silhouettes and if you just fill in the few spaces of Asha's braids, there's basically no difference.

I do like the ambiguous relationship route. It would give the fans the freedom to think whatever about them. For Disney, it would also stir up SOME discourse about their movie if people were to start arguments about what they are, lol. I like your redesigns and the rewrite concept. We NEED more shy princesses that slowly come out of their shells over time. It would give a lot of small children a comfort that a character like them can learn to interact with others and make friends. I do feel like if we maybe got an older princess, kind of sheltered, but still has placed expectations on her, we could actually feel less weird about a relationship between Star and Asha. If I had to choose 20-24 ish, instead of the regular 15-18 that we have a lot of the time. It would maybe give some of the older watchers comfort at a drawn adult princess who can still have the same struggles with social interactions as the regular person. I'm just talking shy, though, not crippling social anxiety, but that might be a nother angle, lol.

i rlly wish disney had kept close to Asha’s heritage (part North African Amazigh and part Iberian, mentioned in the concept art) and reflected it in her hair and clothes and character in general. from what i know, box braids are scarce in Amazigh culture, instead they braid hair in varying patterns and shapes with jewelry and ornaments braided in (just imagine Asha with little gold stars in her braids, how cute would that be???) and i could go on forever about how beautiful Amazigh/North African culture would look in a disney movie, especially in 2d (although i’m biased bc im North African myself lmao). but the Iberian culture as well, like, toreadors?? flamenco dresses?? like hello, North Africa and the Iberian Peninsula are like a goldmine of cultures and folklores and music, oh dont get me started on music, and so many opportunities for magical worlds and stories for disney to create, but they chose to make the most bland most marketable plain world and songs and characters to play it safe.
and i’m pissed because we could’ve had a Disney princess from an overlooked minority in the world (Amazigh, let’s not even mention the mixed Amazigh) and brought at least a little light to their history and struggles, but unlike for example Esmeralda in the hunchback of notre dame, where it’s very clear that she’s Romani in France, it’s barely said or shown (aside from Asha’s earrings and one of her friends’ name) where the story takes place and how that reflects in the story.

I would have definitely made Star and the main lead gal in a romance. They start out as awkward friends, gradually become besties, and then star realizes he loves the princess. Star doesn’t tell the princess he’s kinda dying. He wants to stay on earth with her a little longer because he’s never felt this way before and he’s lived for 1000 years. At the end they defeat the bad guys but Star is dying. The Princess cries over the star and he tells her that “he will be okay”.
But his light goes out and she mourns over him in tears.
The princess then starts to wish for her friend (boyfriend) back with all her heart.
Everyone in the whole town start to wish for the star to come back too.
Star is brought back to life!

disney SHOULD hire you. i love the design you did for asha, especially her face. a thing that bugged me was asha's dress bc she is supposed to be in the mediterranean but her dress looks like wool (and yeah winter hits that part of the earth too but still). your dress was closer to what i would imagine. i do think purple is not a great choice for a dress bc if you look at the princesses we have multiple dresses in the pink/purple spectrum and it would be good to have some more variety.
the biggest thing i liked that you did was the personality ideas you had for asha and starboy. i would like to see a women who is not adherent to society's current ideal women aka happy/bubbly. i am not a bubbly always happy girl and i feel bad about that sometimes bc media seems to put "good"women into 2 categories: bubbly or sultry/sexy. if you are not one of these things, you are the loser, nerd best friend or basket case. and i would freaking love a golden retriever/ himbo type male lead.

I think the main big weirdness is that she's essentially Cinderella's fairy godmother? Like why is Wish randomly the fairy godmother's backstory?? (Which is also why they kept her palette purple/blue.)
As for my own gripes with the story...I feel that the king's backstory was sorta glossed over? And in doing that, we lost what would have been a very compelling villain! They made him esentially a altruistic narcissist, "after all I did for them, this is how they repay me?!" When they already had a much better motive built in for him. He had lost everything. Talk to any person with OCD on the hoarding end and they'll tell you that a crippling fear of loss is what triggered their spiral. He was hoarding his people's wishes because he had a very deep seated traumatic based fear of loss. Also, he has a valid point in feeling upset. Up until the point where he became corrupted, he actually had done a lot for his people. He was running a fairly happy, well off kingdom. The whole introduction of Asha playing tour guide showed this off. Going by the growth of the kingdom, it's probably somewhere between 20-50 years old. If you do the math, that means he had granted a minimum of 240-600 wishes. So he's done a lot for his people. The terror of him losing everything again would have made his descent that much more empathetic, rather than the portrayal of him fearing the loss of control and power over his people. It also bothered me that there was no possibility of salvation for him. Like what kinda message is that? That if you mess up once, you're permanently a bad person? That you can't change as a person if you were ever problematic? My head canon (since they want to force the lore that he's the magic mirror in Snow White,) is that they manage to make him come to his senses, as when everyone awakens the power of the star within themselves, his own internal star power wakes up in response to everyone else's and it frees him from the corrupted magic, like a purifying light piercing the darkness, but gets spent up freeing him. Also that the kingdom is actually older than we think, like at least 60-80 years old, and that he's been keeping himself and his queen youthful through his magic. Then once he loses his magic, all the years/aging that he had been keeping at bay (including those of his wife's,) come rushing back at him and he turns to dust (kinda like mother Gothel in Rapunzel,) and the only way to save him is to put his spirit in the mirror. So in the end, I would have loved a scene where she has continued to age and is now an old woman and asks him if he still finds her beautiful and he tells her that she "is the fairest in the land." (Cause it bothered me so much that she had been so loving in the beginning of the movie and then all her love instantly disappeared for him almost instantly when he got corrupted?? They were married for so long and went through so much together. Their love shouldn't have died off so easily and quickly like that!)
ANYWAYS, I think Disney went for the much safer and boring message of "everyone should be free to try to make their own wishes come true," when they could have gone for the much more interesting message of, "you shouldn't always take the easy route to force things to happen; the end doesn't always justify the means, and that one should always be in charge of one's own destiny." Because the problem wasn't that the king had their wishes under his control, BUT THAT THEY HAD SURRENDERED CONTROL OVER THEM IN FAVOR OF HIM DOING THE HEAVY LIFTING FOR THEM. The people themselves were their own biggest problem! They had passed off any sort of personal responsibility and accountability over their own destinies. So really, the biggest problem this movie had was that it lacked nuance. A few tiny tweaks in the direction and perception of this movie could have made it actually great.

Disney movies don’t give off the magical effect they used to anymore, and you pinpointed exactly what was lacking and what they could do to improve it! I need to feel the homely connection to Disney characters again; it’s a hole waiting to be filled! I would love to see this concept in a future Disney movie.

Seeing your concept art of Asha and the Star breaks my heart because your idea would have been a million dollar idea. 100 years they should have done the 2D animation, orchestra music, medieval clothing style and the romance. Your idea for their movie would have actually encapsulated 100 years of Disney magic. My heart is breaking because I need your movie!

I had an idea that the reason the king and queen took the wishes was to absorb them for themselves to grant them power which over time corrups them because they are doing it out of greed. So then they're just bad people, no real redeeming quality, theyre jusy greedy and being further corrupted by doing bad things. Makes more sense why they'd be evil in the end and that they'd not see reason.

While I haven't seen Wish, reading all the comments and seeing your rewrite with the human star, im actually sad that its not a real movie. I feel like this would have been such a cute concept and something I would have loved to watch. I agree with the romance! I know disney has done a lot in the past, but it doesn't have to just disappear!

The promise that Star will always look after Asha from the sky 🤧😭 aaa screaming sobbing! It’s so cliche but so cute! You did an awesome job designing these characters esp with the medieval elements.

I feel like if the concept you did was the real writing of the story DISNEYLAND WOULD BE 100 MILLION TIMES BETTER like Peter Pan rides weren’t that good cause the lines where endless and not worth it SO IMAGINE STUFF LIKE THIS IN DISNEY!? Truly a masterpiece must say
Edit btw I know everyone has said this but YOUR STYLE IS SOOO CUTE IT REMINDS ME OF ANIMAL CROSSING

Disney trying to make things less romance based, but one of the main reasons I liked disney as a kid was that there was romance or romantic elements.

i REALLY like this redesign, especially what you did with Asha's hair. i think thicker braids or twists wouldve looked beautiful in motion, and wouldve forced them to animate them with the correct weight. the more i think about it the more i wish (ha ha) that instead of being adorkably socially awkward, that asha instead had been portrayed with anxiety or something very similar, possibly even a panic disorder. something that wouldve made her brain completely shut down around people with authority and that we got to see her conqure to eventually beat the villain. i think that wouldve really made her both unique and feel like much more of a fleshed out character, plus the emotional impact wouldve REALLY been kicked up.
its a shame because i really like her visually (though again her canon braids are animated. oddly, tbh, when high wind hits them, and just in general. theyre very bouncy and flowy in a way that irl braids usually arent? at least not that ive seen irl. its obvious they wanted a pocahontas moment/callback but uh... even small braids are gonna be a lil heavier than loose, straight hair. but if i go down the animation nitpick rabbithole this comment will never end. PLEASE correct me if im wrong about braid weight). BUT.... asha with a panic disorder would also compliment her friend's physical disability, and would make it feel...less tokenistic? idk if that was just me. i was pretty happy to see a stick user (im a stick user ✌ ) but i wouldve liked it even more if there was more than one center-focus/main side character with a disability.
bottom line, i love what you did here. i also completely agree with you wrt character interactions- thats something where i could literally see the holes left in the dialogue made by Star's design change. it was embarrassingly obvious to me. i really feel like Star *needed* to be humanoid, or at least speaking if they really wanted to keep the marketable plushie. and a romance absolutely wouldve worked for Wish, and would also connect it more deeply to their renniassance movies. i also DEEPLY appreciate nonbinary Star 🥲💞that wouldve been incredible. but with the way corporate disney still treats queer characters, i sadly cant see something like that getting through anytime soon. i know they can though because Strange Worlds exists! i dont even remember seeing any real marketed for that one and the main character is gay!!! and has a crush!! on a boy!!!! Wish had so much potential, and its incredibly sad to see that they leaned so hard into their new safe zone. disney REALLY needs to start pushing and keep pushing because this is getting ridiculous

8:42 If this had been in the movie, there would totally be cute scenes of Magnifico, his wife and Asha as a kid. It would have made a conflict for Asha, since she has good memories with her parents. Learning they aren’t as good people as she thinks they are would be world shattering. She might realize that some moments of her childhood were really messed up, but that most of her memories are positive because her parents did their best to be good parents so she wouldn’t find out their secrets.

Starting to think the WISH Community/Fandom should petition against disney to remake this film and should have a runtime of 2 hours !!!!!!!!!!!
