    I do believe that if ya got some lines and say your re using your mains just stay away from 400 go with 1000. The lines match the bearings and the oil follow it and less break in and ya dont ever see it again inless ya rebuild it better next time.

      Yes in that case I start with 800 then 1000 on the crank, and the bearings I lightly polish with 1000/1200. but that's only if the clearance is in spec. It's only gonna gain about .0001 clearance that way. And yeah your right the groves don't hurt a thing. GM says if 75% of the surface area of the journal is in spec...send it..

    Is there a way the DIU'er can balance the crank?

      you can weight match the rods & pistons at home but to balance the crank requires a balancing machine and bob weights bolted to the crankshaft. However weight matching everything before you take the crank to get balanced will save you quite a bit of money on a balance job.

    So this is polished dry? I thought you sprayed the paper with wd40

      yeah I do spray the paper and crank with WD-40 sometimes. Dry works as well, just have to clean the paper as you go.
