This song is almost the definition of bittersweet. It's sad to witness the final chapter come to an end for the Beatles. It's also a privilege and a joy to be able to experience the end of their story and to feel the excitement of having a new Beatles track. I love those guys. Well played boys.x
Yes, bittersweet is the right word for it. It's wondrous to hear them together with the lovely time travel in the video. However it makes me feel wistful and so nostalgic but shining through is The Beatles presence. Lovely.
I explained the story to my 84 yr old mum and then played it for her. She cried. To me the George solos are the most moving. Also John's voice of course.
I think it's beautiful. The lyrics to the song are close to the last words spoken to Paul by John. I'm not surprised that Paul felt that it was so important to see this song finished for his friend while he still could. The end of the video where it fades to black and white then the Beatles are gone really does seem to signify that this is the absolute end for the group. Very emotional ending.
The fact that they get younger in the clips as the song goes on and they vanish at the end, and The Beatles in lights goes out, it's like they are saying "That's it folks, the circle is complete, thank you and good night X"
The strings and slide are subtle and sound beauitful agaist the harmonies, carnt sound to surprised i guess, they were and still are the Greatest band Ever ❤
A fitting end for the ultimate band. As John said, "I'd like to say thank you on behalf of the group, and ourselves, I hope we passed the audition...".
The video is excruciating 🤣 when Paul and Ringo are singing I laughed out loud they should have just used old clips of all 4 of them but the egos of Paul and Ringo couldn't stop themselves from ushering themselves in 😅😅😅
Its incredible to think the Beatles formed, wrote and recorded all their music, and broke up before any of them turned 30 years old. Its insane to think of the creativity that poured out of those guys in such a short period of time. This song captures that. Now and Then. The old with the new. Its a great swan song.
I was surprised at how emotional I was after listening to this song for the first time last evening. Never thought I'd get to hear a new Beatles song in my lifetime, but I'm so glad to see the technology exists to have made that possible. It's a beautiful thing.
It's crazy to me how much this song is growing on me. I like it twice as much as I did yesterday, and can't take it off loop. I hope everyone who worked on it are/were proud of what they achieved with this.
It's a time travel/"what if" universe - what if Beatles were alive and made a "modern" record. Kind of - at least this is the closest thing to that. Plus it's an obvious homage to John and George, from their older friends, in modern times, who miss their old friends. I love it. It's really touching.
They changed the world in the 60’s and again in 2023 as only the 4 lads could. From a 5 year old sitting in front of our black and white TV watching them on the Ed Sullivan show, to a 64 year old lifelong fan, this is magical. Thank you John, Paul, George and Ringo. Beatles forever ❤❤
Beautiful song. Beautiful video. Very nostalgic in that it shows all the Beatles throughout their career together, and goes back and forth through their years. As a Beatles fan all my life, I think this is a wonderful tribute to the greatest band ever.
A serious grower. On first listen I thought "Yeah, not too bad." I was wrong. After a few listens it's a masterpiece. The video is so powerful. The best band of all time.
@@paulknight9998 yeah I know. I usually don’t cry to stuff like this, but seeing John dancing there and young George besides old George just gave me the rest
I'm not a Beatles fan per se, but I certainly can sing along to many of their songs. I really found this moving, and like I'm witnessing a special part of music history that will never be again. I love the song.
This song is so fitting. It’s almost feels like it’s a final goodbye to the fans. I’ve cried a lot as you can imagine. Feels like we were robbed of what could have been, had John not been murdered in 1980. All in all, The Beatles and Peter Jackson did an excellent job taking John’s demo and breathing extra life into it.
Agreed. We've been blessed with the closest thing we can expect to a fitting end to an epic story and for that I thank Paul for his stubborn insistence in seeing through to completion the hint of the potential he heard in this song since 1995. An incredible gift that hit me in all the right places emotionally. We have no idea if or how The Beatles story would have continued beyond 1980 if John and George were still with us today. What we do have, at least, is the best attempt and intent by Paul, Ringo, and the estates of George and John to give us closure. And the results are more than I could have ever expected. For that I'm thankful.
This one made me really emotional. My dad was a big Beatles fan and we used to sit together every once in a while and listen to a few Beatles records together, sometimes i even took my bass and played along to them. It made the two of us really happy that we could bond over their music even though it was made way before my time, talk about what made the records great, what our favorite parts were and so on. Sadly my father died last year after a motorcycle accident. I would have loved to listen to this with him and share our impressions.
There goes the Beatles once again as the pioneers of new technology, mind blown 🤯. I first heard the audio only and thought it was alright. But when I listened again while watching the video I was a slobbering mess. I’ve known for the longest time that we’d never hear from them again, then we are given this beautiful gift. ❤😢
Me too. Fine with just the audio. Absolutely in bits whilst watching the video. It's incredibly well done. I wouldn't even consider myself a Beatles fan but this is special
the pioneers of modern technology? Have they EVER been that? and they had nothing to do with the technology in this, apart from it being suggested to them
The Beatles are forever GOD'S gift to the pop music world. Doesn't matter if this song is catchy or enjoyable.... its the Beatles and a another gift to the world.
A beautiful and touching end to The Beatles' career. They have just de-throned Taylor Swift on the Spotify chart which is music to my ears. Great video Justin!
I think it's the best music McCartney has been involved in for a long time. John always brought out the sublime in him. It's very well done indeed. A beautiful, last... goodbye.
It's an absolutely beautiful song, and a beautiful music video as well. Joyful and sad all at the same time. Thank you to the Beatles for giving us so much joy!
Every time I see a video of the Beatles creating or writing it’s so incredible how ahead of their time they were. The chord progressions, the melodies, the harmonies are light years ahead of most music today.
Wow really?! That warms my heart immeasurably. No music is not dead, if more people spent their time listening than arguing on social media it could be a better world. Long Live The Beatles-forever in our hearts!
Thank you for the cassette, Yoko. A trip in a poignant and heart aching time machine. Your thoughts and musical analysis are always appreciated, Justin. ❤❤❤
I agree, Yoko played a big part. We shall see how truly generous she was. And how generous Paul and Ringo are. I hate seeing it that way as I love this song.
Sweet, lovely song. And to hear John and George again. Heartbreaking to hear young John singing with old Paul. Most of all, I love it for Paul and Ringo. I’m grateful they shared it with us all. Poignant, that’s the word I’m looking for.
As you said, it's incredibly nuanced. The strings arrangement is subtle but really puts growing power behind the song. Compared to the '95 songs (which I like a lot as well), this feel more like a song and not a stitch up job. It was hard to feel John's real presence in those songs, but with this one he really jumps out of the speakers. It made me cry from sure. The modulation to the relative major in the chorus started the water works.
I think this came out better than I was expecting. The technology that Peter Jackson came up with to isolate John's vocals is pretty amazing. I know I've listened to it only a few times, but at least so far I think it's a better result than what they got for _"Free as a Bird"_ back in the 1990's. I'm glad they put the effort into doing this.
brought me to tears to hear Lennon's voice so beautifully vulnerable and - just like Double Fantasy seemed to hv a knowing narrative of his limited time on this earth - this too so poetically brings their incredible legacy to a close...looks like its heading to #1 in the UK and as it is a AA side release with Love Me Do means there first single and chart topper will also be their last. Emotional and intimately epic.
I was 12 when John was Assassinated outside The Dakota, but had been a Beatles fan since I was younger thanks to my parents, and thought, well there it goes, there will never be a reunion now, and 43-years later, at age 55, I am blessed with this masterpiece, RIP John and George, thank you Paul, Ringo, and everyone associated with this work.
❤It's a HIT ! How could it not be? The musical layers, the lyrical message, the fact that it took nearly 50 years to see fruition, and now, John and George's spirits returning to complete the Fab Four one more time, is beyond comprehension other than it was by grand design that we have this finale. All I can say is BRAVO, BRAVO, BRAVO ! The Beatles aren't The Beatles for nothing - eternally so. Peace through music.
My first listen I thought it was a nice B side. I played it again immediately, many times, and fell in love with it. I bawled when I watched the video. No need to be hyper critical like some people. If you don’t like it fine. The rest of us can love it, right?
Exactly what I think. For me the strings are too much, plus some Paul piano that sounds strange. I feel like it should just have been remastered as a Lennon song. But it's an emotional legacy thing for Ringo and Paul. There's an analysis video that says some parts were taken out, the bridge for the guitar solo was added, and some Beatles background vocals were recycled, for example from "Because" on Abbey Road. th-cam.com/video/Xk88M4ABo_4/w-d-xo.html
This was a long awaited end to the beginning moment of Ed Sullivan's introduction to a band that walked me thru my life. I cried emotionally and fell in love once again with all of them. I am so thankful to have been around to meet the Beatle! A band that will never be replaced! Amazing and talented ! I love the song
It’s beautiful and a perfect last song for The Beatles. And the journey of this song is remarkable. I have no doubt John and George would have loved it as The Beatles were always embracing and inventing new technologies. I’m so glad Paul and Ringo were able to see this through for their friends.
As someone who started their musical journey because of the Beatles, I was in tears, made me proud. Seemed to be a goodbye and thankyou sort of song. Brilliant
My housemate and I had had this song stuck in our heads every since it came out. We think because it's more haunting, considering the circumstances surrounding it. Quite beautiful in it's own way.
You didn't mention the song is a hit, did you? A total banger. I heard it once, and voilà, the melody has stayed in my head ever since. Impeccable arrangements, too. And the video… I cried.
Thanks for your thoughtful analysis. The production was not a "cash grab". It is a touching farewell. Didn't expect to cry. Saw them (didn't hear them but it didn't matter) at Shea in 1965. They and their music changed the world--music, fashion, politics, the voice of youth calling for peace and self-expression. As they grew, they embraced new technology, as they did to finish this recording. Long live Paul and Ringo, the music will live forever.
I love the song. Even though I was born in the early 80's, I grew up listening to the music from the 60's. And this song transports me back through the decades.
Truly magical... At 69, the Beatles have been the constant soundtrack to my life and to hear this now, unexpectedly, is a beautiful, elemental experience.
The video was phenomenal. The song made me cry. Made me miss my father a lot, he grew up in the Beatles era and they were his favorite band. He would have loved this so much.
The crazy thing is that despite the enormous catalogue of awesome songs they have released, there was also stuff like this just sitting around unfinished, and despite all the decades that have passed it is still an original composition that no one else incidentally made during the passing years, and it sounds like nothing but other Beatles tracks.
In fairness, this might well have ended up on a Lennon album in the 80s or 90s, had he not died. I’m not sure there are vaults worth of unfinished material from the rest of them. McCartney, for example, has had plenty of time to go through everything, and is fairly prolific. Harrison wasn’t really that prolific at all - as I understand it most everything he wrote was released in some form before he died.
@@GregorBarclayPaul has written over 1000 songs iIrc, and there are still a few unreleased ones, that fans have only known from bootlegs, for example "Central Park".
@@JarrettMehldau Speaking as a talented, though extremely "not known" musician, i can safely say that ideas accumulated over the course of a musical life counts in the thousands. And maybe 10% of those get put on to tape (if you're lucky). Factor that notion into the combined creative force of Lennon and McCartney and you've got yourself a hell of a unreleased vault :)
@@scumboi78 Yeah, if we include snippets and fragments the amount of potential songs probably increases by a lot, particularly in Paul's case, since he has been living for a long time in the era of hand held recording devices.
I agree that despite all the decades that have passed it is still an original composition that no one else incidentally made during the passing years, like you said. However the song Endlessly by Muse, released in 2003 has similar chords and some phrases in this song sound almost alike, which is quiet surprising. So it makes me wonder if Matthew Bellamy (singer from Muse) did hear the original demo, or the 95 session, or if he simply just incidentally landed on the same musical ideas, or grabbed it from the same place out of the ether, while writing his song.
I’ve been in floods of tears since watching the ‘Now And Then’ short film! Mourning, anew, the loss of John, of George and the music that might have been. Hearing this new Beatles song is poignant and sweet and joyful and sad, all at once. I’ve listened to it over 50 times since it’s release, like a plant drinking sunshine 🌞 Here we are all together, again, listening to The Beatles ☮️🌍 I love you
My initial impression is that it's a nice Beatles song, and the second best of the three post-John recordings. "Real Love" is still my favorite of the three. I'd love it if they re-released "Free as a Bird" and then "Real Love" as AI-enhanced singles.
A stunning piece and fitting end to the recording legacy of the greatest band of all time. Incredibly emotional and another testament to their musical timelessness. A true technological feat, not to mention a beautiful artistic statement. Can you believe it’s 2023 and we’re all talking about “the new Beatles single?”Very thankful to have one last song to relish from John/Paul/George/Ringo. 🖤🔥
As a production I think its just ok, but as a song and love letter to John I find it quite moving and beautiful. I wish there was more restraint in the production choices but it doesnt really matter, its an incredible achievement and closure for Paul and Ringo. Amazing that the Beatles, in 2023, are again pioneering technology thatll no doubt influence the next century… which is crazy in and of itself
WOW! Just incredible, seeing all the footage of them then and now, and blending , the song is very moving too, has the essence of the Beatles, so glad thet Sir Paul and Ringo made this, such a wonderful tribute to John and George, really made me cry both the song and the video So beautiful 💖💖💖💖
Cheers for this! I'm on the fence for now, but I have to admit to being happy to hear a "lost" track brought to life from the World's Greatest Band. I'm also happy to hear that you'll be touring once again! Walk the line, brother. I'm proud of you.
I couldn't help but shed a tear. I've always thought that I was born too late to witness rock history moments like this. This is definitely one of them, just being able to listen to the last song with the fab four together is a real gift. This also brings some sort of closure before the inevitable. The last scene of the empty stage is there to remind us.
It was. Although he does have some early memories i've always felt for Sean as his dad's always been 'public property' and most of what he knows has come through Yoko, the endless hours of footage and chats with the other 3 Beatles and his brother Julian. It would've been nice if Julian had been involved in some way
The Beatles were the perfect example, each one of them, of just because you can, doesn't mean you should. They always played for the song and not for the ego. And as a result were arguably the best band of all time. But they also just wrote great songs.
The guitar solo was laid down by George in mid 90s but the slide part was recorded in 2022. Much in style of him of course. If you didn’t know, you wouldn’t know:) beautiful song, it Free as a bird still has the upper hand imo. Thanks for the analysis Justin, always nice to hear your thoughts!
George didn't do a solo for this song since they didn't actually work on it very long, however he did play a rhythm track I believe, so they used those tracks for this and Paul himself said that he played the slide solo as a tribute to him.
May I suggest something? I see the "why are you pausing so much"-comment so incredibly often (and other oft repeated concerns, as well)... Next time you'll do a comments-video, will you make it a Frequently Asked Questions one, and then we can refer to that video? Maybe it will help at least some?
@@MariaFrancescaif people don't know the answer to that yet, I don't understand why. If you enjoy reaction videos, it's been explained a lot of times 🤷♂️
Greetings Justin. I believe that I read somewhere that it is Paul playing slide on Now and Then and that George’s contribution is acoustic guitar (rhythm?). Anyway, enjoy the channel. Keep up the quality work.
The full video on how the song finally came together after so many years is truly amazing!! Also, I wish my mother was still here to see this, she passed 10 years ago … Ringo is her 2nd cousin (my grandfather and Ringo are first cousins) and I imagine this would have been something she never imagined would happen. I’m happy I was here to see it though 🙌
@kiwigirljacks Ah, my mother was a Gleave. She told me they were good friends until my mother moved to 'the wilds of Speke' and the bus journey back to Dingle 'took hours'. I think that might have been a bit of an exaggeration 😂
@@KayEl58 😅 ahh yes, they love to exaggerate… just as mother use to tell me about the hours of walking to school in the snow lol. My grandfather moved the family to New Zealand in the 60’s but the family got to catch up with Ringo when the Beatles toured here in the late 60’s. I have a fabulous photo from that tour of my mum and aunts with him - the only picture that survived after a fire. Funnily enough there are other relatives here in NZ also that I never knew about until a few years ago. ‘Seven degrees of separation’ hey! I imagine there are many of us all scattered around this globe 😁
As a Beatle disciple since 1963, I am delighted to be alive to witness this heavenly coda to the seminal influence on my lifetime of love for all music genres.
There was a fourth demo Grow Old With Me which the three decided not to use. IMO I think they should have used that song instead it was a beautiful song and more complete
My son is 15, and worships the Beatles! He’s about four years into his musical journey, having self taught drums and guitar. He was Inspired by and taught himself guitar purely by listening to the Beatles. The Beatles broke up 37 years before he was born….we listened to Now and Then together a few days ago and he had tears in his eyes…..THIS is the enduring legacy that the Beatles have left the world…the fact that over four decades after they broke up as a band they are still garnering new generations of kids as fans and are still inspiring these kids to pick up instruments and learn to play so whether you are a Beatles fan or not, their influence is absolutely undeniable. ❤
Thank you Justin 🙏They are undoubtedly the greatest/ most important band ❤ i just don’t accept this as their last song 😭. Those minor chords and melancholic strings 🎻 😭 i just can’t handle it 💔 Waiting for an encore with major chords and trumpets 🎺 I had to watch the Rutles “ lets be natural“ and Nigel Tufnell playing “ lick my love pump” to help heal the heartbreak 😢 ❤️🩹🙏💐
This song has really grown on me since it was released a week ago and when I watch the video I'm totally spellbound. I love the moment at 1m30s when they show the footage of John and George at Shea Stadium with the lyric "I miss you", really beautiful. Also it's really sweet how most of the footage of John is of him goofing around. I watch it with my kids and the ending as it shows them younger and younger until they are not much older than my kids are now is wonderful.
I was extremely disappointed that they got rid of the entire pre-chorus/bridge "I don't want to lose you" section (which is the most beautiful part of Lennon's song) and just made it an instrumental - but someone on TH-cam (Dierdre) actually added that section back in to this "Beatles-ified" version they released and as such, it's the complete song Lennon wrote on that TH-camr's channel. What they released is basically half of Lennon's song, which is a little weird. If the reason they did that was because Lennon's vocal on that section was a bit weaker in terms of hitting the notes, McCartney could have harmonized on it and they could have just brought Lennon's vocal on that section down a bit in the mix or simply added a touch of autotune under his harmony over it. It's a strange fit, anyway, really, as Lennon's song was very much in keeping with his late 70's solo work and not really a "Beatles"-sounding track; it's a haunting, plaintive melody - and ironically, it's the pre-chorus/bridge that they *left out* that sounds the most like a Beatles song - so the TH-camr who added it back in kind of saved the track, in my opinion. Having known the demo for so long, it's just hard for me to hear just the verse and chorus repeated the way they did and that stunning pre-chorus/bridge Lennon sang removed from it. I'm also not sure why they chose to have McCartney do a "George-like" slide guitar on it, when they had George's guitar track from the 90's attempt. Anyway, it's not like it's a *bad* version of Lennon's song, it's just 1) not Lennon's complete song and 2) it's a bit over-arranged and produced for what I think the song needed, which was a much subtler arrangement in keeping with the tone of it. Issues with the piano sound and "mushy" mix, as well, but that's some technical, geek stuff, really.
I guess in the end its supposed to be a Beatles song not just a John Lennon song right? Thats how bands work, an idea is brought to the group and then between them they create a finished song, all having some creative input along the way, unfortunately we will never know if John would of approved. I have a feeling some of the over production was maybe to hide the degradation of the original tape and the less than perfect vocal recording. Making a song in this way would never sound perfect. For what they had to work with I think they did a pretty amazing job. Also maybe parts of the vocal just couldn’t be separated and still be usable. As good as the AI voice separation tools are now they’re still not perfect.
"in keeping with his late 70s solo work" means his brain turned to mush, obsessing and worshipping Yoko. This song is definitely the same thing as all those others in that theme
They most likely did it because of the lyrics “lose you or abuse you”. It doesn’t fit with the tone of the song as an end to the Beatles and references John’s past history of abusing his partners… not the vibe Paul is looking for for the final Beatles song I reckon
Considering that his output in the 70's contains what I feel are some of the best songs he'd ever written, I'd have to disagree with your personal assessment of his "brain turning into mush", but...to each their own.@@cruiser6260
Really wasn't expecting to find it such an emotional experience. how much is the song, or hearing John Lennon's vocal from the ether? Makes me well up like Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt.
Thank you so much for this review, Justin. It is amazing that technology can give it a clean, contemporary sound and yet they keep what many of us regard as the essential Beatles components and the nostalgic vibe. When I heard it premiered, I felt unexpectedly emotional. Saying you like something is a valid critique. Big respect for you being your own person on this.
I was one of those screaming girls at Shea Stadium in 1965, Justin. With all the amazing & wonderful events and people I’ve had in my life, if someone asked which moment in my life I would repeat if I could, it would be at that concert screaming “Don’t leave Paul, don’t leave!” Little could I have imagined that 60 years later, I would have seen Paul & Ringo many times onstage, selling out stadiums still ! You can imagine the emotions I feel hearing & seeing this new Beatles record. Yep, I ‘d go back to that 14 year old who was living one of the most incredible, breathtaking, joyous events of her life!
The "now and then I miss you" line gave me the feeling that John was actually thinking of Paul when he wrote it. It is really a fitting closure (if it really IS closure, that is; I wouldn't be surprised if they came up with a new "last Beatles song" in a couple of years).
Totally possible. I watched A LOT of clips and videos since Get Back and I saw a clip of John being interviewed on a beach and he said that he was totally ready to go back to the studio and record again with the others after they settled their dispute over Allen Klein. I think John even admitted that John was right, not an easy thing to do for some egos. May Pang also said that John really missed Paul. They were best friends since they were 14,15 years old. Both of them had lost their mothers too early, their thing for music etc. Those are our best friends with friendships lasting the whole life. John and Paul had a special bond.
On the topic of another last Beatles song, I’d be surprised if there weren’t other Lennon tunes on tape that were just wildly unsuitable for release in ‘95, too noisy and compromised, and subsequently not even considered. I’d be interested to see if any of those are now dusted off by someone, just out of curiosity, to see what they can do with them with the new tech. However as far as it being a new Beatles song, it would need to have contributions from all four of them so unless someone unearths a demo with Lennon and Harrison both playing on it, it ain’t gonna happen.
@@GregorBarclay I'm aware of how the story went, what they did for the Anthology project, and apparently that was all there was. But Jackson himself said there's quite a bit of unused and as yet unseen stuff from the Let It Be sessions. And not lo ng ago I saw a compilation of unpublished songs some of which were actually new to me and pretty good...
I get the impression that, to the remaining Beatles, the appeal of Now and Then, FAAB and Real Gone was that they were tracks that they hadn't previously heard - thus the enthusiasm to build something out of them. Whereas any unreleased stuff Jackson is hearing on the Let It Be tapes will be stuff all four Beatles heard and discarded 50 years ago. I don't know quite what Jackson is suggesting tbh, it's not like there's going to be songs hiding in there that can be unearthed in the way he unearthed the dialogue in Get Back - the only reason the dialogue was hidden was because it was unmiked - the music has been clear the whole time, and as I understand it all the songs from those sessions have been available as bootlegs for decades, so there aren't really any surprises in there.@@nachovillaro7750
The Beatles were at the top of the game in the 60's and yet again, at the forefront of making music stretch through time. The first band to be able to put together a song that stretches over 50 years of collaboration. Very emotional track. I love it..... GOD SAVE THE BEATLES!
It brings on a feeling of melancholy because of how John's life ended and the remaining 2 are getting up there in age. They brought Peace and Love to the forefront, something we can use again since the world has gone to shit. By the way, the slide was done by Paul to emulate George.
This song is almost the definition of bittersweet. It's sad to witness the final chapter come to an end for the Beatles. It's also a privilege and a joy to be able to experience the end of their story and to feel the excitement of having a new Beatles track. I love those guys. Well played boys.x

I think it's beautiful. The lyrics to the song are close to the last words spoken to Paul by John. The end of the video where it fades to black and white then the Beatles are gone really does seem to signify that this is the absolute end for the group. Very emotional ending.
Yeah, this whole thing is beautiful.
The fact that they get younger in the clips as the song goes on and they vanish at the end, and The Beatles in lights goes out, it's like they are saying "That's it folks, the circle is complete, thank you and good night X"

It's a time travel/"what if" universe - what if Beatles were alive and made a "modern" record. Kind of - at least this is the closest thing to that. Plus it's an obvious homage to John and George, from their older friends, in modern times, who miss their old friends.
I love it. It's really touching.

It's much of that, but mostly it is a collective goodbye and thanks from the boys to all their fans.

Now THAT makes me want to cry.
Beautiful song. Beautiful video. Very nostalgic in that it shows all the Beatles throughout their career together, and goes back and forth through their years. As a Beatles fan all my life, I think this is a wonderful tribute to the greatest band ever.
Wonderfully put-I couldn't agree more!
A serious grower. On first listen I thought "Yeah, not too bad." I was wrong. After a few listens it's a masterpiece. The video is so powerful. The best band of all time.
They didn't care about making a great record, they just wanna sell boomer nostalgia.
i cried during the video. its so, yeah i dont know
Sentimental.@@joniiithan
@@paulknight9998 yeah I know. I usually don’t cry to stuff like this, but seeing John dancing there and young George besides old George just gave me the rest
Absolutely- sometimes the best songs take a couple of listens before they kick in.
I look at it as a message to the fellow Beatles.
Or, one could look at it as a message to loved ones.
Great song either way.
I think that’s what makes it so moving/emotional.
Realy you cried
I agree, it did feel like a final goodbye to fans :(
Brilliant song, arrangement, and video. Made me cry to realize this truly is the end, and almost grieving for the talent we lost.
I've listened to it perhaps 40 times. It's just playing in my head all day. There couldn't be a more fitting final song
Same for me! And now I love it ❤
Yeah a wonderful gift for sure. I would love to see it go #1 everywhere. This deserves evetything💪😎💪❤
the pioneers of modern technology? Have they EVER been that? and they had nothing to do with the technology in this, apart from it being suggested to them
@@ThePedroDB I'm a lifelong Beatles fan so yeah-it had me quite choked up...very powerful and moving video for sure.
The Beatles are forever GOD'S gift to the pop music world. Doesn't matter if this song is catchy or enjoyable.... its the Beatles and a another gift to the world.
Julian is really talented. Listen to Valotte from 1984 his voice is nearly identical to John’s.
A beautiful and touching end to The Beatles' career. They have just de-throned Taylor Swift on the Spotify chart which is music to my ears. Great video Justin!
So lovely to hear John singing again, it was a privilege to hear as a life long fan from the beginning, lovely song😊
The song moved me to tears. That’s all that needs to be said.
I cried like a baby. It’s so bittersweet and beautiful. It makes me sad because my Dad never got to hear this.
I think it's the best music McCartney has been involved in for a long time. John always brought out the sublime in him. It's very well done indeed. A beautiful, last... goodbye.
Deeply moving. I’m so glad that Paul and Ringo followed through with this ❤🙏
It's an absolutely beautiful song, and a beautiful music video as well. Joyful and sad all at the same time. Thank you to the Beatles for giving us so much joy!
🎯
Every time I see a video of the Beatles creating or writing it’s so incredible how ahead of their time they were. The chord progressions, the melodies, the harmonies are light years ahead of most music today.
Ahead of their time yet I don't see anything matching the beatles these days
They even make a 12 bar sound so good with the chord progression
The ending of the video brings a tear to one's eye. The song really does grow on you the more you hear it. The chorus is quite good.
Especially the simultaneous fadeout of the music and the images of the Beatles.
Almost all of the beatles songs are like that. They grow on you... sometimes you are just not aware and the song is in your head for weeks
Over 10 million views in less than 24 hours. Proof that music is not dead. No band better to illustrate that, than the greatest of all time.
Wow really?! That warms my heart immeasurably. No music is not dead, if more people spent their time listening than arguing on social media it could be a better world. Long Live The Beatles-forever in our hearts!
Yep it’s a winner for me. The production, lyrics, melody, class of it, simply beautiful.
Thank you for the cassette, Yoko.
A trip in a poignant and heart aching time machine.
Your thoughts and musical analysis are always appreciated, Justin.
❤❤❤
Did she get /is she going to get a cut of the royalties?
I agree, Yoko played a big part.
We shall see how truly generous she was.
And how generous Paul and Ringo are.
I hate seeing it that way as I love this song.
Sweet, lovely song. And to hear John and George again. Heartbreaking to hear young John singing with old Paul. Most of all, I love it for Paul and Ringo. I’m grateful they shared it with us all. Poignant, that’s the word I’m looking for.
I tear up every time I hear this song. It’s definitely not my favorite of theirs, but it’s still a beautiful gift to us fans.
I was wondering if they should try remastering Real Love and Free as a Bird. Get some more clarity on the vocals.
i think that was down to Jeff Lynn who made real love and free as a bird sound like ELO tracks
@@DesireeStamatI’d be very surprised if they don’t
Kidding, right? It’s elevator musak at its best. Are you tone deaf or a diehard fan of The Monkees or The Bay City Rollers pablum?
I much preferred Free as a Bird
Great song honestly. Beatles music literally can change my mood from grim to happy so quick. Their music is just so melodic and happy.
The ‘90s singles were amazing for their time, but the demo’s rough sound was obvious. I always hoped there’d be a way to overcome that. They did it!
It's touching right from the beginning. So beautiful ❤ happy that this was possible to create
Love the commentary. Beatles giving us one more in 2023 is epic! That one band had this much of an impact on the world is phenomenal!
brought me to tears to hear Lennon's voice so beautifully vulnerable and - just like Double Fantasy seemed to hv a knowing narrative of his limited time on this earth - this too so poetically brings their incredible legacy to a close...looks like its heading to #1 in the UK and as it is a AA side release with Love Me Do means there first single and chart topper will also be their last.

@@peztopher7297 The strings are a little too much, I agree
The Beatles are simply timeless. Loved the song, very touching and moving. ❤
I was so unexpectedly moved by this song. My cynicism pre-release quickly dissipated when John started singing. A beautiful farewell.
It has really grown on me. I wasn’t sure at first but in the last couple of weeks find it is stuck in my head frequently.
Same! 🍻
Its a beautiful mesmerizing song, with a modern twist - but so recognisable as the Beatles.
Christmas No1 written all over it. ❤
It's Paul playing slide, emulating George. He also redid John's piano.
I believe it was Paul doing the slide part in tribute to George. I heard they never got that far in 1995 to add a solo. So moving.
Yes. The little slide accents, were George from ‘95, but the solo was Paul as a tribute to George.
It's rubbish
I can't help but tear up listening to this song. I'm in my 60s, and it really hits me hard for so many reasons.
I am such a Beatles freak - there are so many of us out there! This was wonderful to watch! Thank you! Love this so much!
Really really moving. Me and my mate listened together and were in bits
Such a gift…so happy to live in a period where you can hear a ( very good) new song from the Beatles ❤ sweet sounds from heaven 😊
Isn't it incredible that the Beatles release a new song, and it's instantly far superior to most things released now a days.
They truly are timeless.
Not all hope is lost. There are some real gems out there at the moment. And then I hear _this_ track and it puts all other music into context.
@@carlmanvers5009 I hope so.
That's not incredible - it's bollocks. It just shows complete ignorance to dismiss literally every kind of music in the whole entire world.
I’ve listened to it over 50 times since it’s release, like a plant drinking sunshine 🌞
Here we are all together, again, listening to The Beatles ☮️🌍 I love you
My initial impression is that it's a nice Beatles song, and the second best of the three post-John recordings. "Real Love" is still my favorite of the three. I'd love it if they re-released "Free as a Bird" and then "Real Love" as AI-enhanced singles.
Third for me after real love and free as a bird
OK?

I'm also happy to hear that you'll be touring once again! Walk the line, brother. I'm proud of you.
I couldn't help but shed a tear. I've always thought that I was born too late to witness rock history moments like this. This is definitely one of them, just being able to listen to the last song with the fab four together is a real gift. This also brings some sort of closure before the inevitable. The last scene of the empty stage is there to remind us.
The editing of the music video is absolutely sumptuous work. It's great hearing Sean Lennon being involved as well.

You may be right but I heard Harrison doesn't play any lead guitar on this McCartney did it as a tribute to George
Paul is doing the solo in the style of George
George didn't do a solo for this song since they didn't actually work on it very long, however he did play a rhythm track I believe, so they used those tracks for this and Paul himself said that he played the slide solo as a tribute to him.
The Beatles catalog 1963 to 2023. It's just unbelievable! It's a tribute to them, by them, for us. Just beautiful.

The song is fantastic! It gets better and deeper with each listen! It's already a bonifided Beatles classic

Tell us how you really feel
Considering that his output in the 70's contains what I feel are some of the best songs he'd ever written, I'd have to disagree with your personal assessment of his "brain turning into mush", but...to each their own.@@cruiser6260
So nice of them to leave us one final piece of Beatles Magic.
Really wasn't expecting to find it such an emotional experience. how much is the song, or hearing John Lennon's vocal from the ether? Makes me well up like Johnny Cash's cover of Hurt.
What a beautiful melody… just another signature song from the greatest band of all time
Thank you so much for this review, Justin.
Amazing and beautiful song great along with a great dissection thank you Mr. Hawkins
even after all these years , still the best band that ever was , genius
Yes. The Beatles are in an own division, when you talk about bands in the pop-history! Outstanding is another word!😊
It’s an incredible finale. Reduces me to tears every bloody time...
I think it was a very fitting 'last song' considering the lyrics. My heart melted when they sing 'I miss you'. And I do.
I began crying during that line.
