The Most Expensive Flight of My Life (China Southern,

  • Today I will share with you my experience taking the most expensive flight of my life on China Southern Airlines from #Guangzhou to #Sydney.
    There is a reason that only business class seats are available on many flights to Australia at the moment - passenger caps. This flight set me back $7,000USD (one way!)
    I have always been a bit of an aviation geek, which is why I like to share videos about flights that I have taken in and from #China on this channel. I've always been a massive fan of ‪@Paul_Lucas‬, ‪@SamChui‬, ‪@NonstopDan‬, and other flight review channels.
    I know my flight review could never stack up to theirs, but I have to say, I did learn a lot from their videos before making my own on this channel, so if you have time, make sure you check them out!
    As I mentioned in a previous video (Why I Left China: • Video ), I am currently on long-service leave in Australia. After 10 years of working at my current employer, I took the chance to fly home to see my family.
    Little did I know that the flights would be so expensive. I booked this particular flight months in advance, and at that time there were only two seats left - both in business class and both extremely expensive. I presumed that all of the premium economy and economy flights had already been fully booked, but unfortunately, due to caps on international arrivals (which are currently limited mostly to Australian citizens, permanent residents, and their immediate family members), I realized that a lot of airlines are only selling #businessclass seats in order to at least break even on flights to #Australia.
    In this video I will take you through the entire process of boarding in Guangzhou, and flying to Sydney.
    I just want to take this opportunity to thank China Southern Airlines - without them, I wouldn't have been able to make it home. The service was outstanding, and for 2021, the flight experience was pretty normal compared to what I've experienced in the past.
    I've expressed my thanks for medical workers in the past, but this time around I would just like to point out that today, flight crews are also putting themselves basically at the front line to move people from different parts of the world - and I think they deserve recognition for their professionalism and their courage in helping to transport complete strangers from destination A to destination B during this tough time.
    Disclaimer: I personally paid for my flight, and there was no sponsorship involved in this video. All thoughts expressed regarding this airline, or any other airline, are purely my own.
    I hope you enjoy this video. I spent quite a lot to take this flight, so I thought if I could share it with all of you, at least it would make it somewhat worthwhile! Regardless, I probably would have forked out any amount of money to be able to come home and see my family - so I'm just grateful that I was able to get a seat on this flight.

    Hi, my friend, thanks for sharing your flying experience! Actually you were flying China Southern's brand new Airbus A350-900. It was equipped with the most decent facilities among China Southern's fleets. You were lucky and from my experience, A350 is better than its elder brother A330, from cabin design to seat comfortability to the inflight entertainment screen, you name it. So glad to know that you miss Guangzhou and love living there, it is truly a wonderful place! Hope you can come back sometime in the near future.

    Too expensive for me, haven't been back to Australia for nearly two years. Looks like maybe next year. Do not want to pay high prices for ticket, or for two weeks quarantine on arrival, as well as two weeks quarantine on return to China. All adds up to way too much. You say above 2 pm Aussie time, but my tablet says 2 pm Beijing time. Did you mean Beijing time?

    • @Hazza_Harding
      @Hazza_Harding  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I agree - it cost me $10,000 just to get home. That is a lot of money, but due to the fact that I am alone in Guangzhou, it was a price I was willing to pay in order to see my family. I will double-check the time... it seems that you are right, it should be 4 pm Brisbane time, 2 pm Beijing time. Sorry for the confusion!

    You were flying on China Southern's new A350. They started using it for Sydney routes not long before you flew yours! Very cool new plane which I am yet to see or fly on. The A330-300 is the most common plane that i flew on. I would fly China Southern every year but obviously not recently

    The reason why the economy class is empty is because the Australian government limits the inbound passenger quantity to Australia, which was 6000 per week and halved to 3000 per week in middle of July. To Sydney, some airlines were even allocated Zero passenger, hence some airlines have to cancel their flights or only transport some cargo. Most important carriers are allocated about 25 passengers allowed to be carried on flight. That's why you see all economy class empty, because the quota allocated to airlines is very limited. And the airlines will have to only sell Business class or first class to try to maintain the operation. After middle of July, the number was halved to 3000, which means most airlines can only take up to 13 passengers on board, which could be even worse for airlines.

      Yes - I applied for the border pass while I was in quarantine, called health authorities in QLD, followed their advice, and documented my trip from the hotel to the airport and then the flight while wearing a mask and a face shield, plus documentation from the NSW government to prove that I had completed quarantine, passed a number of COVID tests, and was not a risk to the community. I am not sure whether or not the rules are the same now, but at the time, I followed the rules 100%, and I was able to cross the border without any hassle (though I did need to go through a police check, and I cooperated 100%)
