I flew Auckland to Bangkok via Guangzhou return with China Southern. Really impressed with their business class product only 20% more expensive compared to an economy direct flight. Food wasn't amazing but the seats were impressive, as were the lovely crew on all flights.
I actually asked someone if they wouldn’t mind pulling their shade down just a bit. I was very nice and in return they were nice back to me. The sun was coming right into my eyes, it wasn’t for me to take a nap. They were very kind lowered their shade just enough. so the sun wasn’t hitting my eyes. I so appreciated it :-) I would never ask someone to close their shades just so I could sleep !!!!
You will find out how many people like you if you make a 2021 calendar. Each month would be a picture of you on a different airline. The calendar, I’m sure, would sell out and make you and, perhaps a charity of your choice, a lot of money.

Hi Josh, great honest review as usual. You are totally right regarding being in control of YOUR window. I am a lighting expert (actual job title) and this issue has been the bane of my travelling life for years. I know the importance of access to light just as much as the ability to have darkness when needed.. the key issue with airlines and some passengers are daytime flights..if people want to go straight to sleep then they are basically making it worse for themselves upon arrival and they will experience far worse jet lag than those trying to keep to the destination time zone. However if they want to sleep, they can bring their own darkness with eye shades...but one cannot bring one’s own light if the blinds are closed. But airlines all too often fuel this incorrect practice and to around shutting the blinds after take off even on daytime flights that have just left. I even had an Etihad flight recently (that left at 10am and arrived at 10pm at the destination) in which shortly after take off a passenger in the middle angrily asked me to close the blinds, to which I refused and even offered him a spare eye mask if he’d like to sleep. But he then complained to a stewardess whom then came to me to say the blinds “need” to be closed...again I refused and explained that this is just not correct logic...and then had the senior steward come up and try again but this time more forcefully, trying to tell me it was “policy” At that point I had to threaten them to say they had no right to deprive me of natural light in daytime and if they did I would take if further as I never read this policy...and doubted it existed as it was dangerous for human beings... oh, of course all the cabin lights had been turned off by then...so if I had closed my blinds the cabin would be in total darkness...at midday!? Like you I shall always strive for a window seat and fight for my right to light as and when I know it is correct.

Is it me or did the pudgy guy never once was asleep in all of the footage you had with him in the frame? Guy ate, guy watched IFE, guy surfed some internet (I assume) and then he ate and ate some more! Pretty sure his eyes didn’t take a break for all those activities.
No one should tell you what to do with the window... others can use the eye-shades and sleep... You are so diplomatic because I would let him know who is seated in the window and will show to him/her the eye shades from the amenity kit to use them.

I agree with you that the passenger sitting in the aisle seat doesn’t have the right to control the window and even if you want your window seat passengers to shut the shed you should ask politely. I do like the window on 787 they are big and even if it’s in the darkest settings you can still see outside without disrupting you seat neighbor’s rest.
Hey Josh, your Chinese is great! In my view, China Southern is the best airline among 3 major Chinese airlines (Air China, China eastern and China southern). if I were you, I would ask crew members for help when another passenger tells me what to do or what not to do.

I think that how ever has the window seat gets to control it, except for takeoff and landing. If the light bothers me then I cover my eyes with a blanket or something
Hey Josh agree re the different arrangements in Business Class on their long haul fleet but at their end it must be difficult with a fleet of 638 aircraft !! But I do agree with you about having a common product on long haul flights ! Tell the rude man to get stuffed !! The Chinese Cabin crew ( all airlines) need to go to somewhere other than China to be trained for in flight service !! As you and I know they do their best but it just doesn't stack up to the likes of Singapore Airlines..MAS etc etc. I don't mind if they are trying but you are aboard an aircraft in a premium cabin ! I had the same thing happen with the windows on a Norwegian 787-8 JFK-CPH. They locked the windows the whole flight which made me very mad because I paid for a window seat.
If you want windows closed get a window seat, the only time there should be forced closed windows is when its sleeping time in the cabin, usually after the first meal

In my opinion you should do it, because you payed a lot of money and so they should be friendly. 2 years ago I had a very unprofessionell flight attendant on a flight from AMS to Johannesburg. After 3 hours I went to the purser and he reacted really professionell with the situation. By the way, I learned it at school as well: the biggest lake in Europa is Lake Ladoga! 😀
I hate it when I have to close my window. Normally I fly night and early morning flights so this is always a huge issue cuz of the sunlight. One time someone yelled at me across the aisle cuz of that.

Until now, I had 3 flights in China Southern, and don't know, it wasn't bad, but definitely not one of my fav airlines. Leg-room in economy is so small and bad, and cabin crew members don't speak English that good, so it was hard to ask them for some things, but IFE and seats were so good 😁 Idk, maybe I'll give to them 6,5 of 10 😂

timsedmunds, I find these badges fb (and apparently YT now too) has rolled out very "teacher`s pet / goody two shoes". Would be embarrassed to claim them. In any case, these flight vloggers usually have little time to bother with the comments.

Excellent review Josh ! If you like chinese airlines, may I suggest Cathay Pacific, it's a great airline, very nice crew and a perfect cabin, which is in a 1 2 1 layout in buisness. I would love to see a review about that airline : )
