- Welcome everyone to the absolutely amazing redwoods and Avenue of the Giants scenic tour. Kim and I took a long weekend and drove down the beautiful Oregon Coast and spent a couple days exploring the redwoods in Northern California. All I can say is it was magical, unbelievable, amazing. I think you get the point. We have been to a lot of of places and seen a lot of things but nothing can prepare you for these amazing redwoods. They are truly majestic. Avenue of the Giants - A Destination Vacation: Is a travel brochure featuring the world-famous scenic drive, which is a 31-mile portion of old Highway 101, that parallels Freeway 101 with its 51,222 acres of redwood groves. It is by far the most outstanding display of these giant trees in the entire 500-mile redwood belt and is accessible to all with convenient services provided along the way. The Avenue of the Giants is surrounded by the Humboldt Redwoods State Park which has the largest remaining stand of virgin redwoods in the world. Take time to browse tourist attractions in Humboldt County, CA, picnic, camp, hike, swim, fish, raft, or bike ride in the cool hush of these ancient redwood forests. Don't miss visiting ROCKEFELLER FOREST, where 10,000 acres of indescribable beauty will surely awe any visitor. There are many trails in this forest, as well as, the 8th, 6th, 4th, and 2nd tallest trees, and the "Champion Coast Redwood" at 370 feet tall! S
Though not the oldest redwood in the forest, this large tree is over 950 years old, and is currently around 250 ft (76 m) tall, though originally it was much taller. It has survived not only the ravages of time but also the 1964 flood of the area, a 1908 attempt at logging, and a direct lightning strike which removed the top 45 feet (14 m) of the tree (making its original height close to 300 ft). It is from its age and the perceived hardiness to the fates that the tree derives its name. Markers are visible on the tree, denoting the heights of where the loggers' axes and the floodwaters struck the tree.
Situated in the northern half of the Avenue, The Immortal Tree is easy to find, and has a large gift shop and parking area in front of it.
Founder's Grove
Near Weott, this grove has an easy 1/2 mile self-guided walk with informational booklets available at the beginning of the trail. This well-travelled trail is a good example of old-growth redwood forest and contains a few very big trees, including the Founder's Tree (346.1. ft. tall)[7] and the Dyerville Giant (c. 370 ft. tall) which fell down in 1991.
Drive-Through Tree
Avenue of the Giants features a tree that visitors can drive through. Shrine Drive-Thru Tree is near the town of Myers Flat. The tree is privately owned; the owner charges $8 or more for a car to drive through it.

Greetings friends! Holy cow! I have really hit the jackpot discovering your channel! Planning a 3 week adventure in June, touring northern California and Oregon (the entire coast/PDX and Cascades). All of the videos I have watched so far have been really terrific...amazing scenery (great photography) and informative commentary (with comedic effect). Greetings, aren’t they just absolutely amazing?? I grew up in the heart Of The Redwoods and still live there today. I remember the storm, I believe it was 1978, when many of those trees fell. It was like hearing continuous crashing in the middle of the night. I moved away for about nine years, and had to return home because I missed the redwoods and the ocean. It is truly an amazing area. What’s amazing about Redwood trees is they don’t die when they fall. They are the beginning of life again. They will shoot new trees from their wounds and they create a complete ecosystem along their whole length.
I wasn’t aware they don’t die when they fall. Learn something new everyday.
The suggestions in this video were very valuable. Thanks for doing this. My wife and I spent 3 days hiking around Eureka. Avenue of the Giants was a spiritual experience. As J&K suggested, you can also walk some random marked trails and be awestruck. We were along the Avenue for about 5 hrs and only saw half because we hiked 6, 8 and Greig French Bell plus a long lunch under the trees. GFB was a short trail but wow… a grove of giants and we were the only people in there. Thanks for the great suggestions

Started in Long Beach Washington and came all the way down the coast stopping at every park and lighthouse I could find. I've been down it a few times over the years, but this time really blew my mind on just how special and friggin beautiful the place is.

I was there a few years ago- I had my picture taken in front of the giant roots as well as my husband, who is now gone. It was a wonderful and magical trip.

I was at South Fork High in Miranda, CA when the Dyerville Giant fell. We thought it was an earthquake. When we found out it was the Giant, we cried. It was a very sad day.
That’s where I grew up!! The Avenue was my playground. My zen place is Bull Creek Flats.

Gang, another great video, this time of one of my favorite areas on the planet. Nice. I was just in Crescednt City this last weekend and went to Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park and Damnation Creek Redwood Trail in the Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park. Have you been to any of those? The Damnation Creek Trail is awesome as it covers some 4+ miles of trail with a mile n a half of it or so covering about a 1000 ft. of elevation. It's south of Crescent City right off 101 and is a beautiful but def. robust little hike that spills out on the beach below. I look forward to seeing you film that one of these days! Maybe. Really enjoying your content. I wish I'd stayed and gone down to the Avenue of the Giants.

Wonderful. I'm from the UK, I did a road trip from San Francisco to Seattle during August 2017 for the Eclipse and drove through the Avenue of the Giants. It was amazing. I stayed in Ferndale for the night then went to visit the other Redwood partks. For me walking amongst these trees was quite a spiratual experience. I'm planning a revisit in 2023 after a few year out from travelling due to Covid, hope to camp out for a night. Subscribed to see what other adventures you guys have been doing and maybe give me some inspiration for some other visits to the States.

Really limited on places to stay. It’s really in the middle of know where. I would check Google for places to stay nearby and see what suggestions they have. As far as time of year we were there in May.
We visited there a couple of summers ago and you are so right, the camera doesn’t even come close to doing it justice. They are so massive and like you said, it feels like another world. Thank you for sharing this and helping us relive some very fond memories.

Just came back from here. What a blessing. Good video guys. We felt so small. You know, I could walk this trail daily if I lived up there and would never get tired of it. Could you hear the (Varied Thrush) as you walked? Its a very small bird and its song makes it an even more magical walk than it already is.

You are going to love it. I would do a search of the park and see if any allow dogs. The ones we stopped at said no dogs but I have to think there are places they can go.

We think it a place everyone should see at least one time in their lives. Might be a long trip for some but more than worth it giving that it’s also right near the beautiful coastline.

Great question. Like all trees, redwoods grow by taking in soil particles through the roots and feeding them into the tree. The tree turns that soil into the woody mass that makes up the trunk and branches. And since redwoods have much more soil to ‘feed’ on than other
trees, they make more new wood and grow taller than other trees.”
