Beautiful area. Being older that many subscribers, I have enjoyed those places since the early 70's when our family vacationed there, later when we took our kids there, and later again as we returned as a couple. The giant trees, ferns, and coastlines are amazing. There is even more to see if you do your homework. Enjoy.

I’m from west texas we literally have no trees I went to the redwoods when I was 14 around 2004 it was nice out there the coast right in trinadad was beautiful them redwoods are huge it’s crazy how big they are

Those are some of my favorite motorcycle touring roads and camp sites! Very good narration and videography. I learned a few things about my own back yard from your video, and agree with you on your choices to include in your tour. I do have a Jeep Wrangler now, but haven't started touring in it yet.
That’s exactly what inspired the portion of the route from Dyerville Loop, Bell Springs and Sherwood Road, even though we skipped Sherwood due to heavy mud!
I bikepack … been keeping an eye out for routes that aren’t usually marked for bikes. We use mountain bikes and fully support ourselves (sleep systems, cook etc). This route looks doable but I shy away from Highways -(
@@raymarks7430 so lots of folks are cycling and bikepacking up highway 101 through the Redwood Coast during the summer months. You could take mostly dirt roads from Mattole River until you hit highway 1 north of Westport along the mendo coast.
Definitely beautiful country but I'm prejudiced as I grew up in Humboldt County CA. Definitely recognized a lot of the roads you took. I'll be down there visiting my mom this July.
cool stuff! Was just up on Dyerville Loop and Alderpoint Road this past weekend. We skipped Bell Springs to get to camp along the south fork of the Eel a few hours earlier. Absolutely beautiful country up that way! Island Mountain, like many of the spots up that way had quite the reputation back in the day ;)

I did the Roller Coaster last Sunday and stopped at Bear Den hostel that night with about 10 other hikers that night. It killed my toes I must have stumped the toe next to my little toe on each foot 50 times easily. The hardest day hiking for me. I was toast when I got to Bears Den at 5:00 pm. I bet everyone who does that rock covered section has a similar opinion! Any way you finished it a should feel great accomplishment. Enjoy your time D.C. Thanks for your videos I enjoy your channel 😀

Great video - fun to watch good videos of what we call home! I would say, you guys must have stuck out like crazy with all the huge trucks and equipment. Forest service doesnt even pack that heavy for trail maintenance 🤣 They are such a special place to shed away from society and be amongst the giants. Sooo much hiking to be done... and if you search hard enough youll find some gems like rare albinos or some of the oldest in the world 🤯
There are over 500,000 giant sequoias here in the U.K. only about 150 years old , planted by the Victorians who brought seeds back . The largest I’ve seen is about 170 years old at Churchill’s house in Kent

Seeing they didn't get a chance to reply, maybe I can narrow-down the time for your question. The rivers are full and there's no remnant foliage clinging to decidious trees and shrubs. So it should be winter to early spring. Probably December to March. And that's when there's the best colors for photography. Cheers, MDV
By no means do I know what I am talking about. I am always hesitant to winch a tree that is pointing down the mountainside. My reasoning is that if the tree happens to slide downhill uninterrupted, my attached 6k lbs vehicle will follow. Be safe.
Jedediah Smith is near the redwoods featured in the Starwars movie, which was filmed on private land, but sadly that forest was logged not long after Lucas wrapped up filming. Shame we sacrifice these magnificent trees in the name of commodities like lumber :/

well, great stuff but one thing i need to explain here as it seems to get really trendy....OVERLANDING = CAMPING. yup. camping is overlanding...I do have a tacoma with gear but i do not tell people i'm going overlanding for the week, i simply say I"m going................Camping.....it was always camping. I really want to meet the turd that decided to call it overlanding.
I consider myself as overlanding when the journey is the main attraction and I am stopping for the night but continuing on the next day. I am camping when the main attraction is the area I have pitched a tent or set up camp in. I am too old to want to be trendy but I live in Colorado and enjoy the great outdoors. Just give a nice motel room every few days.
It's refreshing to watch an Overland video where the people are just enjoying the ride and not documenting their existential crises.

Beautiful forests just like BC Canada Rainforests are special as contains more biodiversity as we have not studied the Old Growth Canopy ecosystem.

Depends on your timing. Humboldt Redwoods, Redwood National and State Parks gets busy over the summer. But most of the dirt backroads are empty.
How can I get your route you took? And would I be able to take a 32ft toy holler on that route.

No, we visited in the middle of wet season that runs from Nov-April.

They rolled decent Tan Oak firewood 'down the hill'. If you cut a tree, leave the firewood along the road, a local will cut it up pretty quick.
