St Dunstan in the East is a church hidden in the centre of the City of London. Hard to believe but less than a minute away from Monument & Tower of London, this is a secret of London you have to discover.
    We'll help you...
We hope you enjoyed this video. Have you been here before or do you have your own hidden little treasure in London you’d like to share?
If so please let us know in the comments below.

Utterly fascinating. Such history and the tragedy turned into beauty. They have done a beautiful job of it with the green space inside the sanctuary. Lovely trees, bushes, flowers, wonderful vines. The bell tower is fabulous to see. I recognize this church in your photos section.

@@lifeandloveinmidlife brilliant that's a great amount of time to do so much! Make sure you take in Super Bloom at the Tower of London moat if you can. 20 millionwild seeds in bloom for the Queens Jubilee. I am there filming tomorrow for a video next Sunday. It's on until September and it promises to look and smell amazing (unless either of you have hayfever of course 😂😂😂)

The distinctive lantern tower was apparently inspired by Newcastle Cathedral.

The tower here contained probably the finest ring of bells in London, cast by John Taylor & Co. in 1951 after the bombing, as the previous bells had been damaged! However, they were removed in 1970, and three of the bells were destroyed. The remaining bells with two of them recast are now located in Sterling Winery, California.

What a great piece of knowledge and thanks so much for sharing. By the sounds of it London's loss and California's gain...thanks

@@LondonVisitedYes Indeed. It must be very strange and I find it very bitter visiting knowing what used to be in that tower!

I believe this is the location used in the 1963 film Children of the Damned.

Wow, thanks for that! I see in the description that they use an abandoned church in Southwark, which would fit as just over the river! Thanks for watch and letting us know :)

@@LondonVisited I believe they only used the steeple part for exterior shots .

@@chestnutsev7 Yes I visited the church yesterday and took some great pics. Chilfren Of The Damned is one of my favourite films and was one of the reasons I wanted to see it up close.

@@djx64 Les wow you actually did it I bet it felt surreal being there and trying to imagine the movie scenes, Children of the damned is also one of my favourite films I saw it before I saw village of the damned. I’ve been in London 3 or 4 times in the last few years knowing about the church but didn’t end up visiting it.I tell you now the next time I’m up there I am going to the place. Beware the stare 👁👁lol.
