It does seem that although your main content is of course building and construction, which you’ve always done very well, you also present historical subjects very well too. Nice to learn about the old methods of construction while we’re there. Thoroughly enjoying this series Roger 👍
I like this guy. He doesn’t try to impress anyone with detailed knowledge, but he’s got enough to make it interesting, and he’s so informal. Also kinda cute how he mixes up beadles with beagles.
Easy and nice to listen to, knowledgeable. I'm surprised Roger hasn't been picked up by the mainstream and I'm glad, he'll only get curtailed. Long may you continue Roger, first point of call on any construction problems.
I enjoy these architectural history videos. Interesting fact, the ramp to the underground car park shown at the start of the video was used as the entrance to an MI6 bunker in a Daniel Craig bond film.
Talking of lead pipework, the council buildings in Winchester were built with lead downpipes...apparrently. My dad was an architect for the council and he told me the building was designed to be nuclear fallout proof, hence the lead external pipework.
Roger, your comment about Notting Hill carnival seems to refer to those carnivals that took place the 70s and early 80s (i.e 40/50 years ago). Normally your presentations are well researched🤔
Hello to Sid Cordier or any of his friends/family who are watching this. Sid is a top man and has employed many, many people in this area around Smithfield and beyond. Sid is such a good man, good luck to him! 🍀🙏🏻
I thought that the graffiti on those telephone boxes added an air of authenticity. Would have been nice to look inside to check out those 'lady of the night' cards.
Sorry Roger, william wallace was executed in 1305, 9 years before the battle of Bannockburn, it was Robert the Bruce who won that Battle to gain Scottish Independance. Otherwise love the video very interesting.
Brilliant Roger, we stayed at the premier Inn across the square and had a look around and seen the William Wallace plaque, a really interesting presentation 👍
I am interested in doing a walk with Skill Builder viewers but I am not sure I have enough knowledge to lead a tour so maybe just a walk and chat with like minded people.
yes that is a good point. I wasn't thinking that the bombs had shrapnel. I tend to think the ones they dropped in the Blitz were not the same as battelfield weapons. Nasty things whatever the case holds.
Carne. Latin. Corporeal/meat. Spanish, Reconquista's would convert non Catholics and then offer them tapas. Ever watchful for any sign of revulsion that may indicate those who had converted would appear, insincere. Read about it in a book. C. Hitchens. I like books. Mentioned that before, but I think I got away with it?
There is always something I could have, should have done. I did walk through there and film a bit but didn;t say anything so it was dropped in the edit
I love these types of videos from you really interesting and informative. Keep em coming Roger.

Me and the Missus really enjoyed this, can't wait for the next one.
Roger, another fantastic video, no need to apologise for including history, it's all fascinating and appreciated!
Thanks, I started doing these videos from a builder's point of view but I can't keep on message.
@@SkillBuilder if I still lived in London, I'd buy you a drink, just because you are a fellow Londoner!
Excellent video Roger, you're so knowledgeable.
Such a good tour guide..... Well done Roger.
Thank you Roger enjoyed the video very much!!!!👍

St.Bartholomew's was almost destroyed by a huge bomb dropped from a German Zepplin in WWI.
That could explain the shrapnel marks on the wall
Love you Roger ❤

They have all gone. The internet took over.
Roger Waters history tour great vid
There's a lot of 'Dickens' connections in those parts of town.
yes you are rightm Charles Dickes got about. Almost every old pub claims he drank there.

I work very near Smithfields. I wish I knew you were around, so I could meet you in person. You need to do a meet and greet sometime.

Could those holes in Barts be shrapnel? Bombs filled with ball bearings?
yes that is a good point. I wasn't thinking that the bombs had shrapnel. I tend to think the ones they dropped in the Blitz were not the same as battelfield weapons. Nasty things whatever the case holds.
Love history stuff like this.
Jees, I never knew about that festival and I thought I knew that area quite well years ago!
Wasn’t ramp entrance used in James Bond sky fall ??? Smithfield car park?
*So not much has changed then 😅*
Beef has to be aged after slaughter for 2-4 weeks. Where was it aged?
probably in people's homes or in butchers shops.
