I have honestly been growing this plant for more than 10 years and still never even flowered! It was a free tree from a fruit tree nursery order. It is bushy and healthy (still potted). I have resolved that it is just an ornamental bush at this point.
I'm pretty sure I purchased one from your nursery a couple of years ago. This plant is disappointing for me. It is a very slow growing plant, nothing like the Barbados Cherry. It looks very sparse still after 2 years and hasn't produced a single fruit. I'll leave it in the ground for now, see if it ever produces. I'm surprised it survived the brutal summer from last year.
great videos, always very helpful. I am considering planting some Suriname cherry in AZ. Does these fruit well in Phoenix area? Here this video(th-cam.com/video/-Lz8Wki8k30/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgzXyJ9xJguei6OgOHN4AaABAg.9sJJM5xJl1m9sJMfkaEYpK) shows it grows slowly but barely bears fruit. Would you reccomend Malpighia Emarginata instead? I love Pitanga but wondering whether it's worth growing it if it won't fruit as much. thanks
Hi there, I watched the video and here is my take: Surinam fruits once a year and the fruits drop very easily. I do get a few hundred out of my surinam in the ground and my plant is about 3 years. Surinam cherry has a fibrous/shallow roots system similar to guava plants. They need constant shallow water and in extreme hear if you miss watering eventhough the plant may not show it the fruits will drop. In my opinion, yes it's worth it, they take full sun, no winter protection and it fruits!.
excellent and complete growing guide, the only pitanga youtube video to the point, the title matches the video, great work👍🏾
Perfect. This answered all my questions. Now to find some.
Growing one in central florida. Great info, answered all my questions. This is such a slow growing plant though
The fruits are delicious, sweet and tart. We have the red variety, they bear fruit year round for us here in fla.
that's awesome, once a year here

Very informative. Thank you.
Thank you for all the details. I treasure my potted one at my corridor. I heard there are medicinal values for the leaves, true?
Great vid never knew they could grow by cuttings. How do you grow them from cuttings?
Try soft-wood cuttings during the growing season. They root just fine.
How is your mango tree? Did it fruit this year?
Got a few mangos, I'll make a video.
Do they ever become large trees? Or are they small bushy type

umm no issues with this plant as long as it gets water. It sounds yours is suffering.
