Please to know your experience. This fruit has a long story. Native from South America where pitanga trees can go up to 10 meters high or more, the Portuguese carried them to Africa vg. Angola. My seeds came within fruits and germinated well in pots without any special care. The resulting arbustive trees are growing well up to 1.5 to 2 meters hight in South Portugal setting fruits from white small flowers after 2 - 3 years and sometimes twice a year , requiring open sunlight and protection from birds!

Thank you for your comments. I have another one of these trees that is a black variety (Lolita Surinam cherry tree). I’ve been eating fruit off of it for several weeks now. I have been saving the seeds in order to plant them. I wasn’t sure how easy they would be to grow from seed so thank you for sharing.

@@Zone10aBackyardOrchard Yes! Just do that and I hope you get easily seed reproduction. Sometimes seeds felt down from fruits attacked by birds germinate by themselves só pay attention to the soil near the tree. The folliage of your plant seems quite healthy. Let it go a bit higher. Regards.

That is not a tuba ... Pitangatuba have larger yellow or some variety have orange fruit and grow very slow ... You have the regular surinam cherry ... Sorry ...That is a pitanga Eugenia ...

I double checked with the nursery that I purchased the tree from and you are correct. It is not a Pitangatuba. They refer to it simply as a “Pitanga”. The botanical name they have it listed under is Eugenia Uniflora, which is a Surinam Cherry. Thanks for pointing that out. I’ll change the description accordingly.
