Thank-you for the very useful information. I'll be bringing home my installed height gauge to double-check my new AFR heads because you just never know...

Thanks Brent love your content ... I was hoping you could show me a short cut but good to know you do it the same way. it's a frustrating time consuming job.

Very good info sir!!! I just finished up my 821 heads for my Ls3 swap. New factory hollow stem intake and factory exhaust valves. BTR RedHot cam with matching duel springs. Cam kit, basically. I've been watching videos of guys swapping their stock springs with aftermarket springs and they just drop them in. They don't check spring highland just drop them in place. Yeaaaa, doesn't seem right to me. I mic'd mine. Used a shim kit for it. They may not be 100% but it has to be better then just dropping them in. I got withing 4 or 5 thou under not over. My first set of heads but I have been researching the right way to do it.

So the number of drag passes doesn't reduce the spring pressure to any measurable degree. 🤔
I always heard that use and rpm not only can cause metal fatigue, broken springs, but also reduce pressures.
Thank you for your info. 👍😎
Not long ago I pulled a set of stock 289 springs and got 100# at 1.750 and 200# at 1.250 (.500 lift).
Not much of a factory cam lifting like @.420 or something. I just figured they're use fatigued. I dont know the factory set up.

Depends on the spring. Sometimes they fall off.

You mean "sometimes" the poundage reduces, got it.
I'm no longer building race engines, just street upgrades.

What about reduced spring pressure for the exhaust side, as exhaust valves are considerably lighter. Horsepower will be made

Finding springs for odd engines is a bit of a pain.
Im building a GM 3.4 60deg v6 with a custom cam. But finding just the right spring is hard.
I opted for comp cams dlc flat tappet sbc lifters since it wasnt that much more expensive for my engine (v6 stuff is more expensive than sbc).
I hope the dlc will mean better qc of the lifters so I wont ruin the cam(with all the flat tappet failures happening). But guess Ill see about that..

DLC coated flat tappet lifters need a tool steel camshaft. Won’t work with an iron core.

@ hmm. Yeah it got me thinking when you talked about it in the video.
However comp cams sold them to me with the cam.
But I guess I should double check.
      Thanks!
(Actually in the tech notes for the lifters it says they work with all steel and iron camshafts. )

You better call them. Thats not how it has worked for the last 20-30 years.

@@magnusdanielsson2749 Don't worry I'm using comp DLC lifters with my iron core isky cam in my SBC. No problems!

If Mike Tyson and Paul guy pool their fight paychecks they could buy one of your “Tiffany” engines. 😂
