Watching this makes me realize how frightening these guys are. Here are they, doing some of their most powerful attacks in an astonishing demonstration of might and even so, they endure them like it was nothing. I know they're powerful, but when you get acustomed to defeating them, you kind of stop looking at them as something to be afraid of. This video reminded me that feel of fear I felt when I fought each one of them for the first time. Thanks.

And then I killed the second with a dagger+10, having less than 900HP and keeping half my estus. Not that I'm good or something (I really suck at this game) it's just that after facing him for so many times, I got to learn and time well his entire moveset. My fisrt time was a mage character... :(

This fight is so Anime I could even imagine Gwyn's memory of when the Nameless king was still a young boy and their father and son moments and how he became obsessed on his age of fire resulting to their falling out all coming back to the Soul of Cinder and now seeing his little boy got killed just filled him with absolute rage and regret... Had he only been a better father... Then PLIN PLIN PLON plays.
The Soul of Cinder, having only a fragment of his Gywn left in there amongst all the other souls, finally awakens at the sight of his son falling to his knees. It's cause of how fast and aggressive Gael's attack patterns are compared to Soul of Cinder. If SoC was more aggressive and attacked faster he'd actually be a LOT harder than Gael, just due to the sheer variety of attacks he has. Gael's difficulty comes more from how often he attacks. Next time you get a chance to fight them, keep track of how often you have downtime in the fights. It's actually kind of startling how much downtime SoC gives you if you go into him just after having fought Gael.

my headcanon is that the fights with Gael, SoC, and the Nameless King are all connected, with both SoC and the Nameless King losing to Gael on their own, thus necessitating a temporary allaince between the two to defeat Gael.

He was mad at NK for what he did. But that's all. He was mad. He still loved him, whether or not he would admit it to you. You can stay mad at someone for as long as you want, but once they've been taken from you, you will know immediately how much you miss them. Especially if that was your firstborn son

Anyone else just love the synergy between the Nameless King and the Soul of Cinder? Following up on each other's attacks, comboing Gael to oblivion and covering for each other while they went for different strategies. It actually felt like an epic final clash between players controlling boss enemies who didn't care about defense. Even after Gael entered phase two, his two opponents didn't falter, not until the very end, where Gael managed to snag a double-kill. But then, the Soul of Cinder activated its second form, and it and Gael went down to a tense final duel, even though the Soul had a distinct advantage in regard to health. And as if avenging its fallen ally, the Soul of Cinder's last attack was a lightning bolt... even though Gael was dead by the previous attack. Still loved the fight. Great camera work.
3:10 though, epic moment of SOC backflipping out of the way RIGHT AS NK does his swordspear slam. The movements almost look calculated in this part because of how precise it is.

The funny part is how he had to mess with their hp values for this. As you can see from the description, Gael actually has a smaller HP modifier, meaning that with their legit stats he would win. That's insane to think about

This felt like a true battle of gods - I've never played any of the dark souls games but this has intrigued me, this fights feels like it would be something you would find in a movie not a video game
Well Nameless King is a God of War and Soul of Cinder is an amalgamation of all who linked the flame including the first Lord of Cinder, Gwyn who was a god of sunlight. So it was a battle of gods versus a feeble man who had the power of the dark soul.
Damn this must hurt for Gwyn, being an estranged father finally reconciling with your son only to have him killed in front of you. Gwyn phase kicked in after Nameless dies in front of SoC is like paternal instincts kicking in when your child is in danger.

We don’t know much about Gwyn’s true feelings for his first child and vice versa. He might exiled his son because of rules, but he might truly cares for him?

NK is the only one i believe that gwyn let walk out of anor londo despite his betrayal. to the best of my knowledge gwyn has never outright killed gods on his side, but the presence of Ciaran and Velka tell me he may have ordered assassinations at a point in time, but seeing the severity of his son's sins i wouldn't be surprised if execution wasn't on the table. Gwyn is usually portrayed as a corrupted tyrant, and god knows when this became true, but as evidenced by Havel's insurrection Gwyn would rather keep his enemies close at hand and locked up. this is also true for the much more dangerous Priscilla who could kill the Gods with here scythe. it is shown that they could have imprisoned him in a painting like Ariamis or even in Ariamis to be killed by Priscilla and that area is also controlled by Velka and a sinner inside Velka's world won't last long even NK. so why let him leave? why erase his name in history? why not send even Ciaran or Velka after him? For his Son's defection he had to be punished, but could Gwyn have kept him safe? so i view it as his final mercy towards his son to live out the rest of days with the dragons, never to return to his side and to ensure that no one else can find him purged all records of him from the annals of history.

You reminded me of that scene from Berserk where Guts and Griffith slash at Zodd in tandem...and that is apt, since Berserk and Dark Souls are inseparable from one another.
As the king witnessed his son fall he was hit with realization. The fire may go out someday, but when it does, the abyss will fall with it. At his enemy’s last breath, he summoned the light that has killed dragons, but now serves as a remembrance of his son, and ended the dark soul.
Even in a fight he knew he couldn’t win, The Nameless King wasn’t afraid. He faced death with all his might, and though he fell, his strength opened the way for victory

The fact Soul of Cinder almost died to Gael at such low HP is terrifying only for a final finisher from the amalgamation of fire.
It's cause of how fast and aggressive Gael's attack patterns are compared to Soul of Cinder. If SoC was more aggressive and attacked faster he'd actually be a LOT harder than Gael, just due to the sheer variety of attacks he has. Gael's difficulty comes more from how often he attacks. Next time you get a chance to fight them, keep track of how often you have downtime in the fights. It's actually kind of startling how much downtime SoC gives you if you go into him just after having fought Gael.

@@InsomniaticDeathWish Don’t forget the targeting of SOC first phase really helped because he wasn’t able to hit him too much which allowed Nameless to pull through with some nasty attacks as he didn’t get staggered.
And it only took a naked dude with a stupid mask on and a level 8 caestus and a dagger to beat all of them

as their gaze met, the soul of cinder suddenly a new feeling emerge, a deep primal heat burn in his heart. what is this feeling? anger? sadness? love? a mixture of feeling welled up inside of him as the fire in him, thought to be weakened from continuous linking, began to burn hotter than before. he has only felt this feeling once, ages ago when he took upon his role as the chosen undead and linked the flame.
instinct took over as this new force in his mind took the firelink sword and plunge it deep into the ground, gouts of fire engulfed the coiled blade, increasing it size twice over. he took a stance that was all too familiar. it was him, the first lord of cinder, Lord Gwyn has awoken.

Anyone else just love the synergy between the Nameless King and the Soul of Cinder?
Following up on each other's attacks, comboing Gael to oblivion and covering for each other while they went for different strategies. It actually felt like an epic final clash between players controlling boss enemies who didn't care about defense. Even after Gael entered phase two, his two opponents didn't falter, not until the very end, where Gael managed to snag a double-kill.
But then, the Soul of Cinder activated its second form, and it and Gael went down to a tense final duel, even though the Soul had a distinct advantage in regard to health.
And as if avenging its fallen ally, the Soul of Cinder's last attack was a lightning bolt... even though Gael was dead by the previous attack.
Still loved the fight. Great camera work.
3:10 though, epic moment of SOC backflipping out of the way RIGHT AS NK does his swordspear slam. The movements almost look calculated in this part because of how precise it is.
Meanwhile the camera is looking at them like "uh uh...that's cute guys".....the true MVP of Dark Souls. XD

The funny part is how he had to mess with their hp values for this. As you can see from the description, Gael actually has a smaller HP modifier, meaning that with their legit stats he would win. That's insane to think about

Well Nameless King is a God of War and Soul of Cinder is an amalgamation of all who linked the flame including the first Lord of Cinder, Gwyn who was a god of sunlight.
So it was a battle of gods versus a feeble man who had the power of the dark soul.
Damn this must hurt for Gwyn, being an estranged father finally reconciling with your son only to have him killed in front of you.
Gwyn phase kicked in after Nameless dies in front of SoC is like paternal instincts kicking in when your child is in danger.

We don’t know much about Gwyn’s true feelings for his first child and vice versa. He might exiled his son because of rules, but he might truly cares for him?

NK is the only one i believe that gwyn let walk out of anor londo despite his betrayal. to the best of my knowledge gwyn has never outright killed gods on his side, but the presence of Ciaran and Velka tell me he may have ordered assassinations at a point in time, but seeing the severity of his son's sins i wouldn't be surprised if execution wasn't on the table. Gwyn is usually portrayed as a corrupted tyrant, and god knows when this became true, but as evidenced by Havel's insurrection Gwyn would rather keep his enemies close at hand and locked up. this is also true for the much more dangerous Priscilla who could kill the Gods with here scythe. it is shown that they could have imprisoned him in a painting like Ariamis or even in Ariamis to be killed by Priscilla and that area is also controlled by Velka and a sinner inside Velka's world won't last long even NK. so why let him leave? why erase his name in history? why not send even Ciaran or Velka after him? For his Son's defection he had to be punished, but could Gwyn have kept him safe? so i view it as his final mercy towards his son to live out the rest of days with the dragons, never to return to his side and to ensure that no one else can find him purged all records of him from the annals of history.

Besides the fact that you literally can’t see because the opening of your... helmet ? (Do they even have a helmet under the hood ?) isn’t in front of your eyes, leaving big openings in the rear side isn’t only super ugly, it’s also super stupid. Like... how about a bit of chainmail or something ? You know, just so that they can’t be immobilized just by one or two strikes in the back ?

I love how Cinder goes Phase 2 when Nameless King dies. All I can imagine is that Gwyn despite thinking he hated his son, going into a Berserk rage watching his own son die before him.
