The addition of apple juice and ketchup might seem strange to some but it’s actually not. A Japanese friend made curry for me once. I raved about how delicious it was so he gave me the recipe. I was surprised to see that it included shredded apple and tomato. Surprising but amazing flavor!

The reason I like this recipe so much is cause I have all the ingredients in my house right now: no half and half or 17 spices needed.
    Thanks Marion.
    It's the simplicity for me.
    Definitely trying this out❤️

I believe that most Japanese people make Japanese curry with store bought curry cubes/solid paste. I have never thought about making it from scratch, and actually recipes from scratch is hard to come by. It does look good and I shall try!

Sawasdee krub 🙏🏻. I don’t understand why people so obviously give you a hard time for using Tomato Ketchup. Presumably they don’t when you add sriracha, Worcestershire, soy, hoisin or any other type of commercially produced sauce, and the only difference is their flavour profiles. It’s not the ingredients but the end product and it’s flavour that counts. Great recipe Marion 👍🏼. Khob khun mak mak krub 🙏🏻

I modified the curry recipe (used potatoes and carrots and made chicken katsu instead of putting chicken to the soup) but followed the process of making the roux. It was my first time doing the roux from scratch so I was nervous if it will turn out well. Didn't really have to worry though because it went amazing, better than I expected. The family absolutely loved it. Very easy to make. Thank you so much Miss Marion.

Better than *any* packaged curry roux I've tried in the last 15 years - yes, even House Vermont (my all-time fave). And with the cost of imported curry roux in Sweden this is a godsend. Another winner, Marion!

As a mom of three, with kids in temporary remote learning as our restrictions increase, this is EXACTLY the type of recipe I need right now. My kids will definitely appreciate this more than an Instagram type meal. Easy, filling, delicious. Looks like I know what I'm making for dinner tonight. Only ingredient I'm missing is Apple juice, but I'll grate an apple in it instead (how I normally make Japanese curry) and I'll have to use fresh veggies because I'm out of frozen. But it's the weekend and I have time. I see this going into our weeknight rotation though.

if you have the extra time:
      1. boil your veg in a separte pot and use the boiling water as stock for the roux (potato, carrot, parsnip, mushroom, cauliflower, brocolli). keep aside and mix in the end.
      2. saute onions in the fat before adding the flour. you can caramelize them if you have the patience.
      3. add a worcestershire sauce to flavour
      4. add grated real fruit (pear is my fav) to the roux mixture and saute a bit before adding stock
this curry is sweet by nature and keeps well in the fridge so you can make a huge batch if u want. you can change the protein and the process is the same (if u are using beef though it takes a while to soften so boil it ahead of time after browing)
      enjoy!

Or a specific list of the spice blend would also he helpful 😊 Most we have as a blend is garam masala and that seems to be different.
