    Hey man, you guys are great fishermen, but I wish you would release some of those jumbos. It’s ok to keep a couple, but taking that many kind of hurts. When you caught them that time of year they were a little skinny, but here in the spawn they can pack on up to a pound. Also, those are pushing 7-10 years old too. I’m a perch guy, and I hope you accept my suggestion.

      I’m really glad to hear from another die hard perch angler and thank you for your concern. Cascade is a great fishery and I think your missing some valuable information about this body of water. Your an adult and I’m sure you will find the articles to better inform yourself on this particular body of water. As far as the fish that we kept and killed, we had 4 guys who killed 50 fish over a three day period. That’s about 5 fish per person per day. This is extremely reasonable and will not impact the fishery. Again thank you for reaching out and I hope sleep better now knowing that we didn’t kill every fish in the lake. Good luck on your next outing.

      @@hunt.fish.cook.7340 hey, thank you for responding. When I said jumbos I meant the 14” plus fish. We keep perch all the time and it’s great. However now knowing that was 3 days I feel better. The cascade cup last weekend was a massacre to the genetics compared to your outing. Great job👍

      @@hunt.fish.cook.7340 Hey Ross, I have to agree with Luke’s comment - the 13-15” females should go back. I live here in ID and am fortunate enough to ice fish Cascade 3-4 times a week throughout the winter months. While you are correct that while this is an incredibly unique fishery and the population is extremely healthy, the publications and articles regarding the population aren’t keeping up with the current levels to which the harvest has increased, even in just the last 1-2 years alone. The available articles are almost all based off of long term and wide gapped cumulative data and sadly do not account for the massive recent spikes in harvest. I’m definitely not saying your single 3 day outing/50 fish is going to affect the lake in any matter - I fully agree that that’s a drop in the bucket. What I am saying is you have to keep in mind that this is a wildly popular destination lake for MANY anglers and as someone who is filming you’re outing, you’re setting an example and precedence for viewers planning trips of their own. If they see you practicing/talking about selective harvest and putting the big breeder females back, it’s likely most of them will follow suit. This is especially important with the growth and popularity of the sport, they are going to TH-cam and learning from great anglers like yourself. All of the biggest names in the ice fishing and catch-and-cook TH-cam world - Jay Siemens, Clayton Schik, Tom Boley, Jason Mitchell, etc, have all have fully embraced showcasing their passion for conservation and selective harvest - I hope other great TH-cam anglers like yourself can too! Definitely not putting you down and I hope you don’t take it that way. It was a great video and I too enjoy a fish taco or two! Just my 2 cents from a local perspective who sees all the data and someone who wants to see people who are traveling here checking a 15” perch off their bucket lists for MANY years to come :) Love your content and keep up the good work!

    I plan to fish cascade this winter, got any tips or tricks for my first time on cascade?

    • @hunt.fish.cook.7340

      Be prepared to be mobile. Don’t stop till you land on them. When you hit a spot that kicks out a few good fish, start punching holes and work it. I like fishing those main lake ledges that transition from 10-30 feet. Good luck!

      @@hunt.fish.cook.7340 any places you would recommend as a starting point? Do I need a snowmobile or would I be alright on foot?

      @hunt.fish.cook.7340  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@northernutahoutdoors1657 you can get them on foot but it’s a big body of water. A machine will maximize success. Watch the weather though. Snow can get bad down there

    Man that looked like a blast. I love ice fishing here in Alaska, we don’t have perch, walleye, or bass though. We catch some big rainbows and Arctic char, once in awhile we get after some lake trout (mackinaw). Thanks for sharing.

    What rod were you using as your jigging rod? The action looked perfect.

      For most of my jigging I used a FRABILL 30” Quicktip 1-4lb rod. Love it to death!
