  • Ice Fishing on Lake Cascade in Idaho was a great experience. Driving 31 hours from the shores of Lake Erie was long trip but definitely worth it for the experience of catching 2 pound jumbo perch. With our ice fishing gear behind us we took our snowmobiles out to many spots on the lake in search of that sumo perch. Snowmobiling on Lake cascade can be tricky due to layers of slush that can form after a couple warms days. We got stuck in waist deep slush.
    Since 2013, Lake Cascade perch anglers have broken the Idaho state record three times, and have set two Yellow Perch world records. Perch over 14 inches in Lake Cascade are anywhere from 8 to 14 years old - which is extremely long-lived for this species.
    Lake Cascade (formerly Cascade Reservoir, is a reservoir in the western United States, on the North Fork of the Payette River in Valley County, Idaho. Located in the Boise National Forest, it has a surface area of 47 square miles, and is the fourth largest lake or reservoir in the state. The closest cities are Cascade, Donnelly, and McCall, all in the Long Valley of Valley County, Idaho
    Following a delay due to World War II, the earthen dam was built by the Bureau of Reclamation, completed 73 years ago in 1948. The term "Lake Cascade" came into common use in the 1990s, with the federal name change made in 1999.

    ALWAYS do a circle in deep snow and then part your snowmobile or track device in the previous track. That way you can take off WAY easier.

      @@Bigwaterfishing I fished Cascade 4 times in 4 different locations from the 4 access points on both sides of the lake. I caught dinky perch and stocked trout. I drive 80 miles - I sure wouldn't come from out of state for that. I caught a butt ton of perch from the Magic Valley reservoirs.

    I had a perch with a twin tail bass worm in it's gut. Are people using those things in winter for perch, or do they get stuck in the gut, because they don't break down? Where did the hook go?

    What’s your ranking of these 4 for taste deep fried? Crappie, Bluecat, Walleye and Perch. The last two I don’t have in Texas and never tried but I hear they’re probably the best northern fish. I personally like bluecat and flathead cat better than crappie but all are fantastic. Although I rank crappie above channel cat for taste. I fried up some blues yesterday. Blues are my favorite fried fish to eat.

      @@adamsmith3996 if I went by your list and not knowing the other 2 for taste that would make it for my taste #1 perch #2 bluecat #3 crappie and #4 walleye. KVD says perch is his favorite fish. I wish I had perch and oysters local to me and I'd be in hog heaven. Fried oysters beat everything fried IMO.

      @@jamesbarron1202 yeah yellow perch is absolutely the best. I live in Buffalo N.Y right on lake erie and catch lots of perch, but used to live in Virginia and have caught blue cats to 40 lbs. Smaller ones were pretty good to eat.

    • @jamesbarron1202
      @jamesbarron1202 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@adamsmith3996 about 4 lbs and smaller are the best size for eater blues. They're at their peak flavor during colder months and clear water. I've ate enough fish to sink a battleship in my 57 years plus I guided some.

    Cascade has been getting so much attention in the last 3 years. Good thing Idaho is so boring and not a lot of people will go out there to rape the system.
