I know this post is from a while ago but can you remember when you put the spare part on did you change the internal o ring, washer and outer gasket?

Hi NBW. You mentioned Hammerite on your video and I know others have repaired using JB Weld or another liquid metal compound. Do you still have your Tracer? and did the Hammerite keep it mint after you reinstalled? many thanks, Mark.

I'm afraid the hammerite didn't hold. The chemical nature of the coolant melted the hammerite and it bubbled off. I would suggest getting a gas torch and some plumbers solder to seal the damaged areas back up or perhaps braize it.

How did you find the install? Do you recall whether you had any particular issues along the way? I'm thinking about replacing the union bolt on mine with one that is less corroded and horrid to look at.

The union bolt is the least of your problems my friend. But no, no issues to pop the old one off and a replacement one on.

@@nicebigwrench8730somehow I missed this reply and then found it again after all this time. What did you mean by the bolt least of my problems lol? Were there other steps in this process that we’re tricky? My cooler is working fine, I just want to drain the fluids, pop the bolt out, and pop a new one in.

Apologies for the noob question, but how do you know if its corroded?
I have a coolant leak on my XSR900 and trying to diagnose the cause, and find the solution.
Is a visual inspection possible without taking off the oil cooler?

If you pull the hose off the vertical pipe by about 1cm or so, you should be able to see any corrosion damage. It'll be pretty obvious. Sorry this comment is a little late!

Hi there. Same happened to me this week. Was lucky enough to buy the part second hand from the MT09 UK Owners Group on Facebook for £75! My question to you is Do you have to drain the oil and the coolant to replace this part? Where to start? Thank you in advance!

yup you have to drain all the oil and coolant. If you can have the bike tilting backwards a little bit when you take the cooler off, that might save you from the dribbles of coolant and oil coming out.

The assembly is available in the US on partzilla dot com for $265. As NBW states, to replace the part that corrodes, you have to buy the whole assembly, which is weird as the other parts of the assembly are available individually.

Hi there. Do you mind telling me what to type in terms of bike parts when searcing for the item on partzilla.com as when searching for oil cooler, nothing comes up. Many thanks.

A hole corroded into your oil cooler pipe there at the top?
