  • This is Part 1 of the engine preparation of one of the LCT 179cc 4.8 HP horizontal 3/4" output shaft engines sold online for $49.95. I bought a few of these engines and this one is for "The Killer Tiller!" OK it's just my old garden tiller but I call it the "Killer Tiller" because it sounds better.
    Upcoming engines: I'll be doing a disassembly and review of the Anbull 223cc engine available on Amazon: www.amazon.com/Anbull-Horizon...
    Is it like the Predator 224 or Wildcat 223 engines? We'll find out.
    In this video we'll cover a brief history of the LCT engines and some info I researched about the company. We'll do a little prep work on the engine to get it ready to install it on my garden tiller. We'll remove the side cover and a few internals, measure and inspect the camshaft and remove about 5mm from the dipper on the connecting rod. After checking things out and reinstalling the modified components we'll reassemble with red threadlocker and torque everything back to specs.
    I'm trying to keep the length on the videos down as best I can but it does take time to do the work, so I decided to split this one up into two parts.
    Again, this one is for my garden tiller but with the 3/4" horizontal shaft the 179cc LCT engine would be an inexpensive replacement for almost anything that uses a small horizontal shaft gasoline engine. Minibike, Go Kart, Small projects oh and of course they were intended for use on snow blowers. So if you need to replace that tired Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Tecumseh or even Predator engine these LCT engines are an economical choice. A warranty is included and the LCT engines are serviced at Lauson Product dealers. Anywhere Tecumseh parts and service is available. Though with the modifications I've done in these videos I'm pretty sure I've voided my warranty already.
    Where can you find the LCT 179cc $49.95 engine?
    These are available at Surplus Center in Lincoln Nebraska. They have a website at:
    www.surpluscenter.com/
    Surplus Center also has a store at the Bay place named "burdensales" and I've ordered some there as well. The shipping is a couple of bucks cheaper.
    I'm not sponsored or affiliated with Surplus Center in any way but I do give credit where credit is due and they have a good price on these engines.
    You can also find some videos on the LCT 179cc engines from the guys at @azlongtales It's a great channel and I'm subscribed too!
    Thanks, Chris

    I have 2 of these engines that I built, and they are VERY DIFFERENT! The piston is a 65mm and basically impossible to find anything to fit. Cam is a larger bearing size. Rod bearings are clone size. Flywheel keyway is not the same as the clones or my other predator, it's larger. Oil fill plugs are predator thread M18x2.5.

      There are a few differences. I think that's where the "Designed in the US" part comes into play. The 65mm bore size is tricky to find a clone piston to fit. If you stick with the 65mm bore it'd likely require a long rod with .490 pin and a Briggs 5hp flat head piston, Wiseco would be a good choice. The nice thing about the LCT engines is that nobody seems to want them because they probably think it's a Tecumseh. You can find a good 70mm bore block from the 208cc LCT for around $20 on the online auction sites.

      Makes no sense to ruin A 19.99 dial indicator on A 50 $ engine. The point is use the correct tool for the job .

    Typing as I watch so I pardon if I double up on some things...
    I just had mine apart snooping around, and took measurements where I could. I got the 65mm bore and 54mm stroke mentioned, the lift on the lobes is the same as a predator 212 hemi, but I also got .569 on the journals. Mine also had a .012" steel head gasket, and the piston is .035 below deck. Mine also has the smaller clone rod journal size, but my hemi predator wrist pin fit. My example was assembled by he man, definitely worried about pulling threads at some points trying to break bolts loose, but I won. I measured roughly 19cc combustion chamber, and 26/25mm valves. It's an interesting little booger, I wonder if one of the cam grinders could just finish journals at the larger size to fit this block?

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The camshaft is an oddball. .569 diameter, the Predator 212 non hemi cams are around .559, the Honda clone cams .549 It's either going to need a bushing/bearing in the block and sidecover to swap cams or like you say the cam grinder will have to produce something with a .569 shaft. I'm not sure I'd want to put the machine work into the 65mm block to install a bearing, but a bushing is a real possibility.

      Hi Kevin! I don't have any Fox bikes. I wish I did. We will be building other engines as well. I have parts in for some Briggs 5hp flat head builds and some 12 and 14 HP Kohler builds. I'll be working on a Tecumseh 16HP OHV engine as soon as I can get some of the other engines done. Thanks!

      Thanks Tac! I'll put some info updates in the description. I ordered one thru their website at Surplus Center then I ordered a couple more thru their store at the Bay place "burdensales" since the shipping was a couple of bucks cheaper. It would be great if somebody lived near their storefront in Omaha Nebraska. You could pick up the engine for $49.95 over the counter and save the $30 or so shipping. I'm not sponsored or affiliated with Surplus Center but they do have a good price on these engines so credit given where credit is due. Even with the shipping cost added in, I couldn't have replaced or even rebuilt my tiller engine any cheaper than this engine was. More to come in future episodes with the little LCT engines. We'll hot rod one soon with some surprising results. Spoilers.

      @@bucky14b Thanks Brian! These are cool little engines for sure. If gas wasn't so high I'd probably plan a road trip and pick up at least 10 of these engines. For this one the entire upgrade cost me around $20. I purchased a couple of the 1.3:1 rockers and had to use a sidecover gasket to replace the one I tore up on the disassembly. The rest of the stuff that gets added in part two are leftover parts from the 224 build. Love that 54mm forged crankshaft! Great buy!

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes Sir! A 5HP Briggs flatty can blow the entire cylinder jug off the top of the block. Clones can too though and it's more common among big bore clones than the old Briggs flatty. Clones also split apart across the back of the block, at least Briggs flatty didn't have that issue. Thanks!

  • @Deans64
    @Deans64 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    will a top plate help stiffing the block

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Kevin! Great point! If you have a nice thick aluminum plate bolted to the top of the block it will help brace it along its back some. But nothing can take the place of a welded rib or plate. I wish they were all as thick as the Ducar and Tillotson reinforced blocks. Most people won't believe that these blocks will split apart until it happens to them! I can't blame them. I didn't think a 5HP Briggs could blow the complete cylinder off the top of the block until it happened to me. Thanks!

      I agree! That's why I keep two or three of those $19.95 dial calipers laying around just for such abuse. If it was a Starrett brand, yea not so much for scratching a mark on a rod with that one. Thanks!
