  • This is Part 2 of the engine preparation of one of the LCT 179cc 4.8 HP horizontal 3/4" output shaft engines sold online for $49.95. I bought a few of these engines and this one is for "The Killer Tiller!" OK it's just my old garden tiller but I call it "The Killer Tiller" because it sounds cool! I'll likely make a few videos on the tiller and bringing it back to life. I'll post those on the channel for anyone that's interested. I've found old equipment to be the best. The old heavy build cast iron stuff seems to last for decades and the newer lightweight stuff available nowadays seems to last only a few years if you're lucky.
    New engine with disassembly and review video of the Anbull 223cc engine available now!
    Link to engine:: www.amazon.com/Anbull-Horizon...
    Is it like the Predator 224 or Wildcat 223 engines? We'll find out.
    In this video we'll finish up the prep work on the engine to get it ready to install on the "Killer Tiller". We'll remove the head, check it out and do some comparison between the LCT head and a 224 Predator head. We'll inspect the piston top to see what we have in there as well as check the piston to deck height relationship. To finish up we'll add a larger carburetor, throttle control and muffler from the 224 Predator leftover parts box.
    The 224 Predator carburetor is marked "SP" on it. It's a RUIXING brand and I'm not sure who makes "SP" I found "Singapore Power" and "Singapore Products" listed for "SP"
    If any of you Guys watching are Kart Racers, make sure to check out
    @franksoutdoorlife Great Kart racing and coverage!
    I had planned on installing set of 1.3:1 ratio rocker arms to turn a .225 stock camshaft into a .292 lift torque monster in this episode. But I was unable to complete the install. They required a billet guide plate to fit the push rods found in the LCT. I went ahead with the assembly but I've ordered the billet guide plate for 1.3:1 rockers.
    Again, this one is for my garden tiller but with the 3/4" horizontal shaft the 179cc LCT engine would be an inexpensive replacement for almost anything that uses a small horizontal shaft gasoline engine. Minibike, Go Kart, Small projects oh and of course they were intended for use on snow blowers. So if you need to replace that tired Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Tecumseh or Predator engine these LCT engines are an economical choice. Warranty is included, LCT engines are serviced at Lauson Product dealers. Though with the modifications I've done in these videos I'm pretty sure I've voided my warranty.
    Where can you find the LCT 179cc $49.95 engine?
    These are available at Surplus Center in Lincoln Nebraska. They have a website at:
    www.surpluscenter.com/
    Surplus Center also has a store at the Bay place named "burdensales" and I've ordered some there as well. The shipping is a couple of bucks cheaper.
    I'm not sponsored or affiliated with Surplus Center in any way but I do give credit where credit is due, they have a good price on the LCT.
    You can also find some videos on the LCT 179cc engines from the guys at @azlongtales It's a great channel and I'm subscribed there too!
    A little background info on The "Killer Tiller" : It's an old "Huskee" brand garden tiller that was purchased at Tractor Supply Company (TSC) many years ago. It was old and tired then back in the mid 1990's. I rebuilt the original 5 HP Briggs engine that came on the tiller as it was already well worn out when I got it. I used the tiller for many years and several times it was used to cultivate a 3 acre field of tobacco when the tractor broke down or was waiting for a part. So this thing has seen some run time and hard use! Around 2004 I parked the tiller as it was once again ready for an engine rebuild. Instead of rebuilding it again, I purchased a new Craftsman brand garden tiller and it lasted a little less than 3 years before the mickey mouse gearbox gave out. That was pretty much the end of the "have a big garden" era for me. Since then I've used a small two stroke tiller and only had a very small garden. I've decided to get the old tiller back into shape if possible with a new LCT 179cc engine and see if there's still some work left in the old gal.

    I like watching you work on these engines. You really know what your doing. That's a really cool tiller there. That gas tank lol 😂

      Thank you my friend! My tiller has spent too much time in the weather! 🤣

    Slightly off subject....but I like the winter style pull start handles. I have them on a couple of my karts.

      Those winter handles are great for a high compression engine! I'm probably gonna rob this one from the LCT engine for something else! Thanks!

    Why not use the pushrod guide from the original head? After all it was made for that size push rods.

      Hi John! That's great thinking and an example of how you guys are sharp! I did check and the LCT plate had the same problem with the 1.3:1 rockers as the aftermarket guide plate I installed. The 1.3 rockers are shorter than the 1:1 rockers and it moves the push rods closer to the stud. The stock guide plate won't allow the push rods to be that close to the stud. I did try removing the nylon inserts and grinding the stock guide plate (off camera) but without the nylon inserts the push rod area of the plate was too wide and didn't provide any side to side support for the push rods. If you'll look closely during the video you can see the 1.3:1 rockers were already installed on the LCT head with the "reworked" stock guide plate when I removed it. If the Predator push rods had been the same length everything would have worked out just by changing the push rods but the LCT push rods were much shorter. I did give it a good try to get the 1.3 rockers on there but it was not worth the effort in the end. I'll just have to wait for the billet guide plate as much as it pains me. Thanks!

    If you have a hemi gas tank with the two studs on the front of it angled outwards, could you bend a piece of metal at about a 45, so it bolts to the block and kicks up and away to accept the studs from the tank? I'm not sure what that'd do as far as the rear bolt up by the head.

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great idea and I tried mounting the tank from the Ducar 212 hemi! Mine didn't work because of the top oil fill /dipstick tube on the side cover. There wasn't enough room. The bolt at the rear of the block is in the correct place though and I was going to bend a couple of pieces of sheet metal for the front mounts. I was debating on removing the dipstick assembly and plugging it off to try again but I have an old plastic tank from a snapper mower that might work for me so I've put it on hold for the moment. I'm gonna dive back into the gas tank situation as soon as I get some of the rusty bolts and shafts loose on the old tiller. Great thinking! Thanks!

    Hey friend how are things? I love this 4.8 LCT engine! I think it would be perfect for a person new to the mini bike fun world. Say I have another hard ? For you… I bought a used 212 Predator motor and I really want to challenge myself to get it running properly without buying any parts for it! The problem is it only runs halfway on choke. If I put it all the way to run it dies I have taken the carburetor apart and all of the main jet and pilot jets are clean. The only thing I have not checked is that black plastic deal under the idle screw do you think by any chance it could be that? Everything else was clean! I really don’t want to spend any money on this because it’s a spare motor but I want to master this engine before I touch my brand new 224 predator from harbor freight…💪🏼 This is all your fault and I’m loving it! Thanks agin for the great videos

      Hi Janice! If the carburetor was jetted properly and it started running lean, then yes definitely it's got to be clogged up inside somewhere. Usually the emulsion tube gets clogged up with trash. It'd be best to remove the entire carb, disassemble and give it a good soak in carb cleaner then a dose of pressurized air. But if you're trying to get it going on engine, just make sure your low jet, main jet and emulsion tube are all open and clear by using a piece of wire to verify the passages are clear. The little plastic low jet on top can cause the issue you describe. It should get a good cleaning just like the main jet and emulsion tube.

      Hi David! I'm looking at a Honda 3 wheeler for one of my boys (grown men actually) but I normally don't do any work for anyone now. I'm retired and out of the game so this is just mainly fun rather than work.

    What's the bore of a honda gx160

    • @KentuckyFriedFixes
      @KentuckyFriedFixes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Craig, I think the GX160 has the 68mm bore. These LCT 179cc engines have the 65mm bore. Kind of an odd size but it's really close to a stock 5HP Briggs flat head bore. (Which means you could build a long rod engine with a Briggs Wiseco piston on the cheap)
