I meet the most people when I go alone; I have gone to bars, movies, restaurants and even a rock concert alone and I end up meeting so many people that way
I wish I had the nerve to go to bars and such alone! I’ve lived in Chicago for 15 years but I’ve found myself kind of alone in recent years because a lot of my friends moved away during the pandemic or are MIA after having kids. But I also have some social anxiety which makes going places alone kind of a scary thought!
Same here! I used to go raving by myself and I met so many awesome people, some of whom I am still in touch with 10+ years later ❤ Another really fun place to go alone is climbing walls and pole fitness classes - some can be a bit cliquey but in my general experience 96% of the time the people are so friendly and encouraging and you're learning a new skill at the same time. A lot of walls have social events and fundraisers as well which are really fun 😊
I had a similar experience in NYC trying to carry a free microwave home. A guy just hoisted it in his shoulder and said “lead the way”. I found the coolest things on the street too.
I'm in a very different life stage - I recently retired and after 40 years in my career "left" most of my friends at work. Making friends is really a life skill, and like anything, does get easier with practice. Ironically, it can be just as hard in a small town as in a big city. I'm glad you're expanding your experiences and finding your "peeps"! Enjoy the process!! ❤️
I hear you! I thought that I had a circle of friends but when I left, I found out that they were "work" friends and all we ever talked about was work!😂
Met some great new friends at karaoke, pub trivia, and an introvert meet up. I do miss having a coffee and browse fashion magazines and shopping buddy but that is probably good for my wallet. Thankful for the community here on youtube as well.
I’m glad you spoke about making friends. I’m about to move to a new city and I’m a pretty shy and introverted person so making friends has been a really big concern for me but now I’m looking forward to it! ❤
A Jon Lovett guest on Lovett or Leave it said something like, east coast people tend to be nice but not polite, meaning they will razz you but will bend over backwards to help you. Polite people will ask you how you are, but not help. It was interesting to hear.
I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s struggled with making friends. I moved from California to Arizona, and while I love where I live, it’s been hard to make friends and it’s also going to be 2 years that I’ve been here. I work retail for the wireless industry, and one of the things I loved about my job is that my coworkers became my friends to the point where many of them are like family to me back in California. I’ve worked in 4 different stores in Arizona in the short span I’ve been here and while people are nice for the most part, it’s strictly work relationships. I do t get the vibe that people want to be friends outside of work which is unfortunate. Luckily, I’m married and my husband is my best friend :) but I do miss having female friends to hang out with from time to time.
I think it's easier to make friends when everyone's going alone, if you're in a new city, then go to a place where everyone in your situation will have to be and it's soooo much easier because you're all exploring while trying to know one another. It's what made college so fun, lots of people just getting to live on their own for the first time
I thrift a lot of furniture and I’ve removed so much permanent marker! Mr.Clean magic erasers have been amazing at removing it. Be forewarned it can remove paint if you go in too hard. Hope that helps!
I am in the North East too, and I am so grateful that the smoke has cleared it was so bad on wenseday. I am 53 and since I don't drink and go to bars,my friendships are nonexistent but I learned a lot from that situation and I am fine just being home and I have found book clubs are enjoyable and have met some very nice people as of late.
I live in Central NY. It wasn't just the smoky skies, it was also the smell. It smelled like a campfire outside. They told us to close all windows and turn off A/C to keep it out of your house.
Hi Kelly! I totally can relate to the friend thing when you’re an adult. I’m 53, I left the religion I was born & raised in and when you do that, EVERYONE turns their back on you! In October, I’ll have been out 11 years and have no friends in the city I live in. I have one best friend & my daughter, they both live an hour away😰. It’s so hard to make friends as an adult! I started a TH-cam channel but haven’t really taken off or made friends there either! I love to thrift shop too! I’m in California & the stores are very expensive! My favorite thrifted clothing piece is a cardigan sweater by Agnes & Dora. I found out they are an MLM!!!! I’ve never even heard of them!!!! I don’t support MLM’s so I went to Poshmark & Mercari & bought all the colors it came in! The black & white one is still my favorite 💕 my favorite yard sale find would be my two Harvey’s seatbelt purses. The husband was left in charge and let me have them for $1 each! I’ve since got rid of all my purses and only buy seatbelt or leather purses. I was tired of pulling out purses from my closet that were falling apart, even though they were barely used, the fake leather would be peeling or flaking off!!! So I went with the seatbelt bags, I have about 10 now and the wallet & a coin purse. I have one that’s a backpack one too! I have 2 leather purses. That’s it🤷🏻♀️ I also got rid of all my sweaters!!! I overload the thrift stores in my town! I’ve been decluttering like mad!!! Sorry this was so long! It felt like I was talking to my bestie😃 I love your stooping story! I’ve picked up stuff too. I have an alley and we leave something out back and it always gets picked up!!!! Love hearing your stories!!!🌺🌺🌺
Sending my support to you as a fellow non-believer. It must be difficult when the whole community just drops you like that but that's a testimony to how their friedship was not very high value to begin with! I grew up in catholic faith however I started doubting it all at a very early age. Thankfully a lot of people in my family or friend circle even if they are believers have quite a relaxed approach to faith so they just let me be myself and no one cut me off. Hope you manage to make some lovely acquaintances in the near future! Fingers crossed for you and I admire you for staying true to yourself even if the price for doing so is high !
@@justynawisniewska1213 thank you! Your response was so sweet. I had doubts with the religion a lot of time but when your whole family is in the cult, you just try your best. The last thing she said to me was that I was going to die with my kids! I said, you know what? I don’t care! If I’m going to be dead, I won’t know it🤷🏻♀️ She was the last member still in so I decided I was going to bounce with my kids!!! Never been happier & have a new boyfriend! Your family sounds amazing! @@TracyLeaBeautyI guess everyone has their own experience. None of the Christians I know would ever behave like that. People come and go and that is their choice. No one forces them to do anything in my small congregation and they are welcomed back with opened arms when and if they choose to do. that.
I 💗 the carrying of column story. You might consider painting the column a bright pop color so it becomes an art piece that you created. Maybe put your favorite pallet on it?
Thank you for mentioning that buying product yourself direct from the brand also factors into your review. So often I feel like what I can't find in reviews, especially from upcoming direct to consumer brands who send a lot of PR, is a review of the buying experience.
With regards to friendships- I’ve always been that person to friends and family who is super supportive, first one called when you need anything, a “listen to all your problems” type of person. And then I realized with my friends and family that no one was ever that for me. Nobody ever calls out of the blue to see how I’m doing, or notices when I am sad, etc… my phone rings when someone needs something. Sorry, that is my rant. People are who they are but I’m better off on my own.
Omgosh! In the short insert clip where you discuss your blushes, you are stunning!!! You always look gorgeous, and I’m not even done w this video yet, but just came to say that whatever makeup you applied for that insert and your hair styling is 🔥🔥🔥
I definitely agree with getting out of your comfort zone! Two of my coworkers are really into pickleball and just kept going on and on about it and finally I agreed to go play after work one day and I had so much fun! So unless it's something you're completely opposed to, say yes to new things!
In the Boston/Allston/Cambridge/Somerville l area here in MA we have a massive number of colleges… SO many students move in/out in Sept/Aug and it’s like a city-wide swap meet for furnishings and other things- we call it “Hippie Christmas” locally!
When you popped in to talk about the blush - my gosh your hair! Stunning as always! I just love how you always have such beautiful, full, bouncy big curls. ❤
I’m glad that the air quality has gotten better for you in the northeast. The air quality issue is a frequent summer problem on the west coast for the past few years due to the many wildfires in Washington, Oregon and California. I still have ash on my deck from last summer that I have to power wash off. I’m waiting for the pollen in the air to calm down before I clean off my patio furniture and deck. Since most of us in Seattle don’t have AC, I spend a lot of time on my deck. Plus the view is great. I get what you mean about working remote and making friends. My job is remote and I found myself becoming a hermit. I’ve had to be intentional about going out. I stopped having groceries delivered because I wouldn’t leave my house if I didn’t grocery shop or do my Saturday morning volunteer work. The positive thing about working from home is that I can do my walk in the morning or at lunch and I don’t have to rush as much to get back to my computer. I can wear my workout clothes and no one knows. I only have to dress up if I am having a meeting.
You definitely have to put yourself out there on purpose lol to make friends as an adult. Last year I started taking skateboarding lessons and my coach is one of my closest friends now, and he’s introduced me to so many awesome people. Going to skating events without him still makes me nervous, but the community is super welcoming here.
I understand the issue with building new friends in a new city. I've been where I'm at for 2yrs now and I've only made a few so far. Thank you for talking about this. 😊 I will say that I am finally feeling better about where I'm at, finding more local events and things to do with both my kids and me. So crossing fingers I can make more friends.
I’m glad I randomly watched this video bc I needed to hear it especially the living in a new city making friends. I’ve been in Akron for over 2 years and still isolated my self to the world. So to kno I’m not alone makes me feel more comfortable forcing myself to put myself out there ❤ thanks for that
I’ve heard before that on white boards (different material, but still) that if you have permanent marker on it, you can scribble over it with a dry erase marker and it will lift. I don’t know if that would apply the the pillar paint too, but you might be able to look up some videos on TH-cam if you don’t want to deal with repainting.
I was fortunate that I already had a few friends in the Indianapolis area before I moved here. They not only introduced me to other people but also gave good recommendations for certain places and services. I've also made friends at work both past and current and as well as church small groups. Two Rise and Fall brands I want to see are Lime Crime and Ofra. One product I would resurrect is the Urban Decay Troublemaker mascara. It was my favorite mascara ever. When I wore it, some people thought I had lash extensions.
In regards to removing permanent marker - try isopropyl acohol if you have some first. Depending on the material, it should help get it off or remove it completely! No paint needed.
I LOVEEEEE an ugly purse! I want the biggest, loudest, 1980s Rich Lady At Brunch Purse - the more chains, the better! 😃 I have a nice leather tote for winter, but always go with fun ones when there's more sun. I haven't bought a new purse in years, and one of the thrift stores here always has fun things. They even have a selection of high-end brands behind the counter. Bonus, if I get tired of the one I have after a few seasons, I can redonate it and spend another $7 on a fresh one.
Wildfires in Canada are very much still going on and people are still struggling. Really appreciate this was a neutral mention but it was SO frustrating seeing americans post angry about the air, as if there arent people losing their homes right now
Not sure what the material under the sharpie is, but often nail polish remover will take sharpie off. It may not take it off completely if the material is porous, or might remove some enamel so use at your own risk, but might be worth a shot before trying to match white paint :)
Yes I remember that skin tint so much!! I wanted to try it so bad based on how much you loved it! But I also guessed/said you’d resurrect Bite Beauty before you said it
I'm glad you're doing well in NYC !! I'm in a new-ish town too, and i know i need to just get out there to make new friends. I agree, find a group that interests you. I agree with other commenters: big town or little town, it's all the same when it comes to the likehood of meeting new people.
Kelly, to reduce the workload, would you ever consider outsourcing some of the research for your “Rise and Fall” videos? I’m sure a lot of us in your community would be very happy to help with the workload, even if it’s just finding sources/links for the video!
how are you feeling about the upload schedule you introduced at the beginning of the year and how it has influenced your content? are you happier with it?
Omg Kelly! I remember when you loved that stila skin tint I wanted it so bad but the shade I needed wasn’t anywhereeee. I would love if they brought that back or a revamped it!
I think the Stila skin tint was probably their (original) CC cream. It was my go to before it was discounted. They did relaunch it at one point in time, which is the images google brings up (the original was in silver packaging and worked like IT cosmetics one. In fact I remember when IT cosmetics launched, I thought would be a dupe, but it was so much thicker and not it). I remember going to Sephora and looking for a BB cream because that is what they use(d) in Asia beauty (which I was really into) at the time and we (the US) we're super into full coverage. It was one of the only ones they could find in the store. ( I remember the employee being like, "WE don't have any BB creams, but we have this CC cream, it sounds similar to what you are describing.) It wasn't until Tower 28 release their foundation that I actually found a replacement.
Stila Aqua Glow Serum Foundation! I remember it because you and I were panning it at the same time! I miss it, there hasn’t been anything quite like it😢
You should try the nyx line loud lip liners if you haven’t. I know you love the nyx ones in general but their lasting power is comparable to the tilbury ones which is wild.
Girl such craziness isn’t it? I live in PA and never seen such a thing as we did with the smoke in my 45 years of life. Lasted 3 days here, can’t imagine what you all were experiencing
I love Coola, but I could actually do without the pump; when you think it’s empty and bust open the container (bc it doesn’t twist off) there is SO much product left. It’s not a big enough problem to put me off of Coola 💙
Kelly - I have to say that I really appreciate the looks you do. You aren't extra in any way. In fact, you show how to emphasize and enhance your natural beauty. My one comment would be about how friendly New Yorkers are. Now I'm not saying NYers aren't friendly but I have found that they are really helpful to pretty girls. I'll give an example - I was in NY with my niece who is drop dead gorgeous without even trying. We were stopped on a corner so I could look at a map to figure out how to get somewhere (do people still use maps? I do.) Anyways, my niece was just dawdling around and this guy came up to her and asked if she needed help, directions, etc. Of course she said no. I was standing there looking at a map and he didn't say boo to me. So I think pretty girls can be somewhat oblivious as to what life would be like if they weren't pretty. Don't get me wrong. I think you are fantastic. You seem like you would be very approachable, very friendly when you are out in the world. You probably don't have RBF (I do). I just wanted you to be aware that there are different worlds based on appearances. I've experienced it firsthand.
I know you're a michigan girly, and were also experiencing wild fires like never before. Up north I guess 3500 acres were on fire, they shut down part of I-75, and had to evacuate some people, and the air quality here has also been super poor! Its crazy. We just got rain though, so I'm hoping it helps that situation.
Love thrifting! I’m sure you know this but for street furniture, watch out for bed bugs. We got absolutely burned from grabbing some garbage furniture and it was a nightmare. Disrupted our lives for like 2 full months. Now I travel with bed bug detectors (buggy bed is the brand I believe). I’d been taking street furniture for years before this happened but damn is that a one time lesson. People are supposed to write/label ‘bed bugs’ or destroy furniture beyond use if it came from a bed bug home, as a signal to thrifty folk like us
I learned this working as a leasing agent for an apartment complex. I would NEVER pick up used furniture, really anything with upholstery. Absolutely no mattresses.
Product to resurrect (really showing my age) Maybelline Ultra Big Lash in beige/cream tube disco in 1999. They replaced it with Full 'n Soft which was definitely not the same. I've never felt the same about Maybelline mascara since.
I remember joining a church because @ time it aligned w/my spiritual beliefs. People were pleasant, but everyone was married, I was not. It took me over 2 years to find permanent job. I never felt supported emotionally there so I left.
My sons GF is a huge thrifter!! Almost her wardrobe and stuff in her apartment is thrifted. It’s amazing the stuff she finds!! She’s from the Erie area of PA, and they live In Pittsburgh. She makes out great.
I remember the Stila Tint that you are talking about and like you said, you talked about it ages ago, this makes me realise that I've been following you since a long time Similarly, it feels like you moved to New York yesterday, it absolutely doesn't feel like that happened 2 years ago Time has truly passed by so quickly and we do not realise that until such moments
When you popped in to say the blush you are wearing, what eyeshadow are you wearing in that clip? Was it the Milani palette you’ve been talking about lately? Or nd mini biba?
I don't think we have many thrift shops here. I notice a lot of antique shops or furniture thrifts but clothing thrift shops are very few and far between.
Girl! I always watch your videos and I decided to ask the question! Which town in MI are you from? I am Brazilian and moved here. I live in Farmington H ills!
Random question: is Colourpop still cruelty free? I found carmine listed as an ingredient in several of my eyeshadows and they are still claiming cruelty free. You are my go-to for cruelty free brands so I was wondering if you had heard any thing recently.
Ok. I thought cruelty free included no carmine because of what is done to get the red color. It was happen-stance on reading the ingredients trying to chase down an eye allergy, and carmine is a huge culprit.
Could you do a video sometime on lip liner ?? I have the worst luck with it. It doesn t do what its suppose to do and i end up with BLURRY lips.🙄 i am 59 but still i think my lips havent aged. It's me, I'm the problem. Hi. 😆
I actually really like Revlon’s “The Gloss.” The packaging says “super lustrous,” and they’re right! I have 3 shades, and they’re all gorgeous. The shade Rosy Future looks more like a light, sheer peach than rose, but it is lovely. The shade Indulge in It is also peachy, but a with a bit more pigment. I mention these first bc I know that Kelly is getting more into peach shades these days. But for those of y’all that like browns, Choco Crush is my fave!
A beaded bag, with a hard frame, could be used as a defense tool. Your stooping story is too funny, just imagining you dragging the pillar across the street in NYC is funny enough.
I meet the most people when I go alone; I have gone to bars, movies, restaurants and even a rock concert alone and I end up meeting so many people that way
I love that!

I will say that I am finally feeling better about where I'm at, finding more local events and things to do with both my kids and me. So crossing fingers I can make more friends.
Isopropyl alcohol (usually in disinfectant or actone-free nail polish remover) will get sharpie off!
I’m glad I randomly watched this video bc I needed to hear it especially the living in a new city making friends. I’ve been in Akron for over 2 years and still isolated my self to the world. So to kno I’m not alone makes me feel more comfortable forcing myself to put myself out there ❤ thanks for that
I like that this was more personal and not necessarily Beauty recommendations. Thanks for sharing!!
I visited NY this year - people are do helpful, nice, they love small talk, I felt amazing!
Kelly, OMG! 💚👁💚we need a tutorial on your mat eye look (from your "pop" to explain why the blush segment was skipped) LOVE!
Kelly, Wanted to say that you just seem like a delightful person, which is so refreshing.
Girl, I lived 3 years in PA and I did not make any friends! I thought there was something wrong with me :) I see now that it was not me 😃
I think I have the skin tint from Stila you’re talking about- Hide and Chic. It’s a perfect light weight skin tint but was advertised as a foundation.
Yes I remember that skin tint so much!! I wanted to try it so bad based on how much you loved it! But I also guessed/said you’d resurrect Bite Beauty before you said it
Would love to see the Jones road liquid bronzer
I'm glad you're doing well in NYC !! I'm in a new-ish town too, and i know i need to just get out there to make new friends. I agree, find a group that interests you. I agree with other commenters: big town or little town, it's all the same when it comes to the likehood of meeting new people.
Kelly, to reduce the workload, would you ever consider outsourcing some of the research for your “Rise and Fall” videos? I’m sure a lot of us in your community would be very happy to help with the workload, even if it’s just finding sources/links for the video!
Really? Why work for free its not a nfp
how are you feeling about the upload schedule you introduced at the beginning of the year and how it has influenced your content? are you happier with it?
( I remember the employee being like, "WE don't have any BB creams, but we have this CC cream, it sounds similar to what you are describing.)
It wasn't until Tower 28 release their foundation that I actually found a replacement.
Try a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser on your sharpie-d pillar. It got sharpie off my coffee table after a friend’s kiddo drew on it. 😬🙃
I found 2 Bite Upswing mascaras and a powder in Lychee, a pink powder! Good haul, I miss Bite and Becca!!
I would bring back Marc Jacobs Beauty, mainly for their Tantastic Bronzer and their eyeshadow palettes.
I love Coola, but I could actually do without the pump; when you think it’s empty and bust open the container (bc it doesn’t twist off) there is SO much product left. It’s not a big enough problem to put me off of Coola 💙
Oooh that’s good to know for the future!
Their guava sunscreen smells so good! And feels good on my skin.
I miss bite too! I really miss the french press lip glosses
aww as an Armenian it makes me proud, thank you for breaking the stereotypes ♥
I just love your chatty videos ❤ you're such a sweet soul!
I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Every time you say “stoop” i think of Hey Arnold and “stoop kid afraid to leave his stoop!” 🤣
The rise and fall of boxycharm would be really interesting! Great idea to whomever asked the question on IG.
I miss the Nars liquid bronzer. It was everything!
You are so good Kelly. You seem like such a kind person. Thank you!!
For making friends, I suggest Meetup groups. You can find a group for everything under the sun.
I miss Watershine lipstick badly. Never went back to Maybelline after they axed that line.😓
I remember when you bought the Stila skin tint!
I guessed that you would pick lip liner for M! Those Nyx lip liners are such a classic
I remember joining a church because @ time it aligned w/my spiritual beliefs. People were pleasant, but everyone was married, I was not. It took me over 2 years to find permanent job. I never felt supported emotionally there so I left.
New Yorkers are the nicest people in the world!! Especially if you have a southern accent😊
My sons GF is a huge thrifter!! Almost her wardrobe and stuff in her apartment is thrifted. It’s amazing the stuff she finds!! She’s from the Erie area of PA, and they live In Pittsburgh. She makes out great.
omg, i always find great stoop finds when I'm walking my dog which... he's huge so it gets super awkward! love new york lol!
I remember the Stila Tint that you are talking about and like you said, you talked about it ages ago, this makes me realise that I've been following you since a long time
Similarly, it feels like you moved to New York yesterday, it absolutely doesn't feel like that happened 2 years ago
Time has truly passed by so quickly and we do not realise that until such moments
When you popped in to say the blush you are wearing, what eyeshadow are you wearing in that clip? Was it the Milani palette you’ve been talking about lately? Or nd mini biba?
The Milani palette!!
Lol that reminded me of the Big Bang episode when Penny brings that chair from the curb into her apartment 😂
I love the bags that you thrifted! Love vintage!
Magic Eraser might get the sharpie off,
Ur complexion fabulous!!!
I don't think we have many thrift shops here. I notice a lot of antique shops or furniture thrifts but clothing thrift shops are very few and far between.
Still use Becca products, lol, yes please bring them back!
Try acetone or rubbing alcohol to get the marker off 🙂
Would love a boxycharm rise and fall video
Girl! I always watch your videos and I decided to ask the question! Which town in MI are you from? I am Brazilian and moved here. I live in Farmington H
ills!
I love these videos!!
I’d love a boxycharm video!
I always buy 2nd hand if I can too
Random question: is Colourpop still cruelty free? I found carmine listed as an ingredient in several of my eyeshadows and they are still claiming cruelty free. You are my go-to for cruelty free brands so I was wondering if you had heard any thing recently.
Yes they are! Cruelty-free and vegan are two different definitions. They are considered cruelty-free (no animal testing) but not vegan
Ok. I thought cruelty free included no carmine because of what is done to get the red color. It was happen-stance on reading the ingredients trying to chase down an eye allergy, and carmine is a huge culprit.
I think I would bring back Meow Cosmetics and Athr Beauty.
I didn’t know you loved thrifting! I have to admit… I’m definitely not a thrifter. I don’t have the patience to sort through and find the gems!
Great video ! What lip gloss / balm are you wearing in this ? :)
It’s in the description
what are some of your favorite thrift stores in Michigan?
Hi Kelly - did you delete your video from 1 or 2 days ago? I was going to watch it but now can’t find it.
No, I haven’t deleted anything :)
Could you do a video sometime on lip liner ?? I have the worst luck with it. It doesn t do what its suppose to do and i end up with BLURRY lips.🙄 i am 59 but still i think my lips havent aged. It's me, I'm the problem. Hi. 😆
Was it Stila Correct and Perfect?
My friends always tell me that I like ugly things! Lol…I do.
I miss bite sooooo much. I’d resurrect them too!
Have u ever done a revlon video I aways think there so out dated
I actually really like Revlon’s “The Gloss.” The packaging says “super lustrous,” and they’re right! I have 3 shades, and they’re all gorgeous. The shade Rosy Future looks more like a light, sheer peach than rose, but it is lovely. The shade Indulge in It is also peachy, but a with a bit more pigment. I mention these first bc I know that Kelly is getting more into peach shades these days. But for those of y’all that like browns, Choco Crush is my fave!
Hand sanitizer and toothpaste remove permanent marker from items! 🤣🤣🤣
A beaded bag, with a hard frame, could be used as a defense tool. Your stooping story is too funny, just imagining you dragging the pillar across the street in NYC is funny enough.
