I feel like Wayne Krantz is a great guitar player to play with as a drummer, he plays rhythmically with the drummer and leads while not just busting out into solo. So, the rest of the group can build on ideas too.
@ 3:26 - Wayne quoting his own 'Whippersnapper', the classic, burning opener of his outstanding 1995 live release '2 Drink Minimum' (w/ Lincoln Goines & Zach Danziger).
mark is so fun to watch it's as if he's electrified during the entire performance. every part of his body is moving to a beat then he chooses what to hit and his hand hits at the same beat of his electrified body not once but continually hits in syncopation to strands of 16th notes while his left leg jumps up and down to a continual beat of 32nd notes ! He's not just drumming, he's flying!
@PureParticle right... that's probably because Mark is just going off, he doesn't really seem to be listening to Wayne. Dude's just soloing while Krantz plays on top. I LOVE Mark Guiliana BTW, he's one of my favorite drummers, but here he seems to be more concerned in showing off his skills than making music with such a great musician as Krantz.
I joined Wayne's patreon in 2020 and he had over 230 paid members, now he has 110. I deleted my membership because he would regularly give off a shitty attitude towards people asking questions that he didn't like. All of the questions were just about art and music. A bunch of us messaged each other about this. And he wonders why he isn't as successful as he would like to be.
didn't mean to bash meshuggah in any way, they are one of my favorite bands and i listen to them frequently ( far more than krantz ). I just know Wayne is a professor at UT in austin tx. Hes a jazz wizard and I'd bet my life he has a great deal of knowledge on harmony. Probably more than most musicians i listen to. I of course, could be completely wrong though =x
+LeonardMcrendall Men, you never plays drums with your arms , it 's a bad thought ! Drums is played with finger , wrist and shoulder for drummers who really knows how to play drums .
I've seen him put a wallet on the top of the snare, which gives it that really tight sound. A lot of guys are doing that now, like Jamire Williams and Chris Dave.
@dudestube - Video was recorded with a Canon PowerShot SD790 IS - standard point-and-shoot camera with video function; video sound was captured straight into the camera's mic! The audio linked in the video info section was captured with a Zoom H2 recorder - best investment for anyone who wants to record anything anywhere, no joke.
WOW !!! AMAZING !!!! Could you try to upload the files again ?, it says error each time i tryed to download them. I would apreciatte it SO MUCH !!! Thanks 4 Posting this clip. :D
@leonzioooo These are really good drummers, some even legendary. But from a modern point of view they are quite conventional (except Jojo Mayer) I think. Guiliana is fresh and playful, he's not afraid to experiment on the spot, that's what I like about him. He's spontaneous. An other great example of this kind of playing, and my personal favorite is Han Bennink. Also, an other one I discovered recently that excites me is Xavier Desandre Navarre
Magnificent! I'm blown away! I cant stop watching...Oh God what a drummer

His leg is not going up and down in 32nd notes. He is doing 8th notes with his leg. If you count up and down it would be 16th notes
Sooo nice.

@leonzioooo

I don't think he lost the beat, and I don't think he laughed either. I think he made a break deliberately and really felt it :)
Does this style of drumming have a name
Hey Wayne what is that flange tubular sound you get with the pedals. Just Curious.
Even they were laughing while losing the beat :) its so good to lose it sometimes. Theres nothing wrong with it.its about taking risks. So buzz off!
..................!!!!!!!!
Yo... You gotta be Fu#king Kidding me.... WTF !! DAAAAAAAMN......
@leonzioooo
And I'd like to see what's your favorite drummer if that possible
is the full show worth the listen?
can someone explain to me how they ended together? there was a form there?
if zach hill played jazz....
@maddpiklz48
They live in the same town. They probably listen to each other.
anybody know how he gets his snare like that?
the guitarist... eh... guiliana... BIG UPS!!
@leonzioooo
It's a jam session, you don't know what that means, do you?
@leonzioooo
Exactly. That's why you should stop insulting Mark Guiliana. :)
No I didn't, but I guess it's nice to know it's making the rounds!
Anyone have any idea what's on Mark's ride? Looks like a saucepan but I'm not sure
+Jacob Fenton its a paiste 10'' tomatopan
Id hate to see what mark would do with a couple rack toms...
@leonzioooo
Why you hate him so much anyway, if you find him so obscene (despite praising reviews all over that is) say it in a polite manner.
do you think he could do all of that without bouncing his left foot?
He often does!
Egomania for two.
+eckenschneck nope
+eckenschneck Mclaughlin & Billy Cobham?
@ZackPomerleau a pan
@ZackPomerleau i think its a pot
A bit of Whippersnapper in there...
Whether a coffee ?
Can find any kind of stuff on TH-cam...really, no shame...
Shri Krama Lei you might be able to find MP3’s of the full gig floating around the internet
really cool, reminds me of Meshuggah at parts..but of course, these guys have far greater knowledge of harmony and pitch
is that a pot on his ride
Mark is badass!!! Haters gonna hate cuz they have no skill an cant play like that haha
Dad???
fns hell yss
@accurate18 too bad he is so egotistical
