My biggest pet peeve about the art community is the large amount of people making fun of and putting down beginner artists. Personally, I love seeing the work of beginner artists and my favourite part is telling them how good they're doing! I love building up beginner artists in the way that I wish others had done for me when I was a beginner!
With me it's the opposite and it's hurting me. Idk if 4 years artist is considered beginner but I'm really lacking in art and expect to be criticized so I can improve . But all I get is compliments and it isn't helping me at all. Lost my passion for art long ago
Everytime I see comments similar to 4:52 to female artists, gamers, singers, and content creators I watch, I can't help but roll my eyes so far back in my head. There really are people out there (mostly men) who can't process the fact that there are people who actually follow women because we admire their skills, their entertaining personality, and sense of humor. Not everyone dismisses someone's value based on their "hotness" like you, mister...
theyre acting weird because theyre nervous. we're changing the art world. dont let anyone stop you! and dont forget, everyone who doesnt treat you weird is already accepting the new normal
The gatekeeping was heavy when I was growing up as a kid. People discouraged using references which now I’m like if I knew then what I know now about references I would have been a lot better by now.
I'm glad you made this video, and I'm glad for the artists you will help with this (sadly I'm not in that demographic as an older artist haha.) Let me just say, these days, and online especially, there's a culture of anti-intellectualism and lack of critical thinking in favor of gut reactions and closed-minded responses. It's a huge societal problem, especially/even with adults. I do hope the younger generations learn to be more open minded and open to learning because being toxic while being ignorant helps no one. Not the bully, not the bullied, no one. We should all help each other grow and make progress, not regress, because there's a version of the future where everyone is happy.
I'm kinda selfish and just want people to criticism my artwork knowing how bad I draw right now . Seems I can't improve at all be sure I'm not doing it right . I really want help from this community ❤
As a composer, I encourage all creatives to recognize and maintain the environment which best allows them to grow and thrive. There are a lot of distractions out there so finding your personal haven is essential! Best wishes, everyone!
2nd one hit hard. I really want to start a TH-cam channel, but I am terrified of showing my face online due to the fact that I have really bad acne (the medical condition) and am overall camera shy...
I agree that sometimes it's better to learn from someone a few steps ahead rather than someone who is advanced. Plus, teaching something is a great way to improve on what you've learned. We should definitely encourage beginners!
Also it’s really gross how people talk to artists these days either saying comments like that one guy did to you which sounds like he sexualizes women in general. You are incredible at what you do and the media you help create is and looks great!
I have almost fell into the trap of having an unhealthy lifestyle while drawing, thankfully I noticed this early as I started taking care of myself better. Which made it more fun to draw as well :D
As a consumer of art content in video format, while I work, I can confirm that I often find myself closing videos that don have narration. Artists that choose to stay private are really in a disadvantaged position. Even those with really amazing art styles.
Yea, i really enjoy Art videos where there’s no/minimal narration, even applies to other genres of videos on YT, “show don’t tell However I don’t know if they’re at a “disadvantage” some maybe however some artists who have big/small instagrams and/or big/small youtubes and don’t do any narration/share so much of themselves on socials are still doing quite well for themselves. I think it’s about being authentic and true to oneself as an artist/human. However there’s still great value with art some art talking vids.
my biggest art gripe is when ppl complain about someone's art being too expensive or that they shouldn't charge that high because their art isnt good enough. :((
I have another problem: the community’s obsession with diversity and representation to a degree that they harass artists who draw sexy women or draw mostly white women. Like, what the hell’s your problem? You can’t tell other artists what they can or cannot draw, damn it!
just found this channel today from the ENDLESSLY animation and i feel like youre the only "art advice" channel that really listens to us artists instead of just backhandedly shaming everyone who struggles and praising the ones who are already on top. please, keep doing what you do
Yes! The art school I go to there's a art teacher that keeps getting mad when students dont know how to draw realism right away. The students will understand body and what not but actually drawing it is a different story. It almost makes me wanna quit a couple of times cause of them.
Thank you for talking about the unhealthy lifestyle aspect!!! ❤Art students are really out here flexing the fact that they’re sleep deprived, it’s not okay 😭 And same with treating individuals nicely or poorly based on their art skill levels…it’s so toxic and embarrassing. I’m thankful you’re bringing these issues to light 💖
The problem with addressing "problematic" people and their reactions online is that it doesn't solve anything. We will continue to have demoralizing interactions online because of the opportunities that online anonymity bring. Most social media platforms allow you to control who you interact with and what you see, unfortunately, there are too many people online who lack the self-control to block, unfollow and ignore this type of feedback.
I think addressing problematic people was to remind us it isn't worth interacting with them, and we should focus more on positivity and building a kinder community. We can't stop these interactions (like you just mentioned), but we can control how we interact back and treat these situations.
When it comes to amateur advice, I very much agree. Even when it comes to Watching your videos. Watching your opinions change between your older videos to now kind of brought me deeper into your mindset towards the industry and makes me feel like I understand your advice better. I don't know if what I just said makes any sense, but the point is I like your stuff.

I had to go to physical therapy for six months because I wasn't taking care of my body and developed a serious case of tendonitis. I couldn't draw for months!! Physical health is no joke, I turned 30 and my body immediately rebelled against my bad habits.
It will sound strange but... does anyone know a creator / video about how to engage with the art community? I've been an active artist since 2016 and I feel that I am no way part of this community I always hear about. I never talk to artists because I just don't know what to say and people don't talk to me in general. I feel that my engagement rate with artists has been something like 1 sentence per week since 2016. People always say to engage with artists and be part of a community as if I knew what that even means. Does anyone have a source that explains that to me as if I came from outer space, because that's how I feel most of the time? The fact that I'm about 75% sure that I'm actually autistic might have something to do with that, but I still have no idea how to be part of the art community.
Lately I’ve been trying to work on finding Discord Servers specifically centered around artwork!! If you have Original Characters then servers centered around them could be good too ^^
Hello, as someone who also thinks they're autistic but has no means to get a diagnosis, I'll be sharing with you on how to interract with other artists base on my experience, specifically on Instagram as I'm most "active" there + a bit on TH-cam. 1.) Choose your social media/art platform, be it Twitter, Instagram, Artfol, Tumblr, etc. The goal here is that the platform must have active users and has the ability to comment, share/upload posts, direct messages, etc. These features are essentially your conduits for interracting with others. 2.) Follow big art accounts that already have an established following/fanbase wherein people are either following them for their artstyle, original characters/stories, personalities, etc. The goal here is to find a large art account whose works you feel drawn to and that you genuinely enjoy. A few examples I could give you would be WLOP, samdoesart, par0llel, etc. 2.5.) Alternatively, examine on the things you like. For example, is there a TV series you enjoy? If so, try searching up fanarts of it, browsing through relevant hashtags, and you'll eventually find artists you like base on your interest. 👉 3.) From there look/analyze their posts/artworks. After gathering your insights/perspective on the piece, open up the comments and read through them. You'll eventually see people either sharing or disagreeing with your sentiments. Have something to add on? Reply to the comment. Have something you want to say that can be insightful to the art? Comment it. You like something that they did? Compliment their art. Keep doing this and soon you'll be effectively "interracting" with the community. Through these interractions, someone might notice you and check out your account and if they like what they see, they might interract with you as well, reciprocate it, and you'll eventually have another source for interracting with the art community via your art posts. As for the part on what to say to others, you could either base it on their artistry, their personality, perhaps their interpreation on a fanart that they did, etc. Just choose a topic you see fit that is relevant to their artwork or to them as an artist. 3.5.) You can also participate on art challenges, such as Inktober, Mermay, DTIYS, etc. Additionally, you could also create fanart and interract with others who already have a shared interest with you. Sharing others' posts are also one way to interract, but I find comments much easier. 4.) Look for other artists who aren't necessarily big accounts, but those on your similar size group and intteract with them (comment, share their art, message them directly if they/you are comfortable with each other). It could be because you admire their work, are in the same fandom, or you both genuinely like each others' personalities. From there, you might also make an art friend! 5.) Subscribe to Art channels that talk about the issues, problems, controversies, etc. in the art community. They're practically your news channel but for art, and you can discuss with others in the comment section. However, I do caution on this as exposure to too much negativity can be terrible for your mental well-being. I'm sorry if this comment was too long. I hope I was able to answer your question in some way. Thank you and have a good night or day ahead of ya!
@@evenerium Thank you so much! I did get to know most people I know through fandom and some challenges. I participated in Mab's Drawlloween Club every year since 2020 and met at least 2 people we follow each other's works ever since too.
In my opinion, while it is very nice to interact with artists (specially as this way you get exposed to their communities, and the other artist can get also new followers from yours, it's almost always a sum, not a subtraction), the main goal is to build a fandom, followers who are non artists (a small percentage of them, will be aspiring artists, anyway), but who do like art, comics, illustration, etc. As those will be _way_ more massive in numbers, and what is really needed is traffic, in whichever the platform. And also, to get merchandise purchases and/or Patreon support, Twitch/TH-cam support, etc. All of which will totally depend on how much (and how well) you work and upload, of course. I subscribe all what Evenerium said. :)
i never bully any young artists, we were all young and crap at drawing 😝😛 and they are just growing in their skills, i dont want to be the person who causes someone to give up art because i said something, criticism doesnt have to be mean, it can be helpful without taring down someone's art
Oh yeah! As someone who is trying to go into animation at Calarts or Sheridan this would be a great topic :D i’ve looked over lists of things i need in my admissions portfolio but it’s a lot and i’m wondering how to tackle it
Im sorry but I don't agree in my opinion about drawing pretty girls ONLY and I know it's ur opinion and that's fine but drawing pretty girls ONLY isn't against the law and everyone has different art style and its not just about pretty things its the art style and totally get that we should get out of the comfort zone but, it's not a big deal and we can all draw something different once a while but i rlly Don't care whether my art is pretty it just comes out depending on my style of art
my pet peeve is that it don't matter that I'm good, why tf did I get good then, wtf were all these years for. Idc because I mean I like making art and chase my own personal goals but damn I've never naturally even gotten 100 likes without paying for it through ads or a repost bro. Im lying I did on reddit but it was pure unadulterated luck. Lame world out here. We not making it out the hood.
You say critique people who only draw pretty girls yet these are the people who thrive on social media. I will never be one of these people, but I get them
Its true there are people that will thrive on the internet but the truth is there will probably only be so many people who can thrive doing that, so I encourage people to be open to drawing a multitude of things to open up their options
@@mewTripled would agree with you if you actually said that it would be beneficial to the artist to draw other THINGS such as animals, landscapes, cities, outer space, ect... (I myself would like to get good at drawing dinosaurs.) But you clearly said that drawing pretty girls is toxic amd people should draw ugly girls instead because diversity and beauty standards. That's not the same thing lol
@@mewTripled I see what you mean. You can thrive being a fire chief in the military but once you retire, it’s really hard to find a job in the civilian world even with all the experience.
I have plenty of videos that advocate for drawing a diversity of things such as animals / landscapes / cities, but there are only so many times I can reiterate the same advice in other videos.
The negative, or so "out of place" sexual comments (although the "get yourself a real job" (we should try to clarify with them what they consider what is a "real job", the options would become incredibly narrow, at the end it's maybe 2 or 3 job profiles, lol :D ), and btw, am sure mostly thrown by unemployed guys, still students, or those who hate their poorly paid job (specially if they could not make it in art), I have seen it also thrown at young men streaming, or doing TH-cam content), I don't know, I have seen those *increasing* lately, but might be my perception. You have from one side some old boomers (men) who never dealt well with certain psychological issues (btw, I share with them only the age, and surely the gender), and in a much bigger number, the younger "bros" that think they are making a front against women, specially young ones, as well, they feel threatened. It's a mix or non confessed (not even to themselves, which is the prob) fear, and ENVY. Like "she has this that which I wish I had", this success. Even more the case if it is not huge success, as : When it's massive, they are fighting against immense evidence, facts, and also the masses of fans that will probably (in the horde style, though, but hey) shut them up and send to them to oblivion. [ And the best.... is when they cover it up with "moral" reasons... Like... "this is what Twitch has come to"... because an artist, or just a IRL or "Just Chatting" streamer is simply beautiful, or happens to wear something you definitely want to wear in hot summers like this. With how internet is polluted with pr0n (consumed avidly by many of these new paladins of moral (?)) , hearing young lads with even more retrograde comments than I ever heard from my elder, back in the days 40 years ago as a kid, makes me "cringe" - as people say now- to no end... ] But if it is somebody starting to shine (not solely in art... in anything) a) is closer to what they think is their potential possibilities, their reality b) they think they are easier to attack. But overall, they get more envious, more jealous, as they see them closer to their situation. Their badly handled male ego (as a man, I am a strong supporter of masculinity, if it is not toxic (actual masculinity is not toxic), there is nothing wrong in being masculine or feminine, just like any other identity. After all, part of the real problem is the insecurity they feel) feels terrible for them, and envy is the only driver from that point, sadly. In another scale, this is the same root of the huge problem of the spiral of jealousy and violence we all know: that spiral where the subject never dares to recognize his guilt, and more importantly, not recognizing the need of countering it by simply being aware of it, and once there, realizing it is immensely unfair, egotistical and destructive for him, too. This happens to many men, but as we know, frustration, fear and envy/jealousy (all super related, one thing brings to the other) are pretty universal. It is not noticed only among artists. I have seen it (with infinite disgust) in Twitch streams where a woman is singing, playing the piano, etc, etc. When an equal responds to them firmly but with some strategy (they consider such another guy, mostly... :S ), funnily, they tend to shut up, though (a sign that they are also little cowards...). Many are just desiring to get attention, due to other mental issues. I had been thinking for a while that these were frustrated male artists (some rare cases of women doing this, too)... yep, some could be artists, but I kind of perceived lately that many, surely the majority, are just kids, teenagers (and some, sadly, older) that consume comics, mangas, anime, etc, not necessarily having grabbed a brush in their lives. I mean, among artists, I think there's a higher sensitivity with these matters. Indeed, the cases of artists doing this cr4p, of what I have personally found, were mostly guys in a _very_ initial moment of their artistic path. Mostly frustrated in such starting moment, not having found yet their nice balance in art, that one which makes you push forward. I think the majority of artists taking art seriously, even struggling, are not sexist, neither envious (that's a bit of a redundancy). And the men being this jealous about women success, in general, not a majority, but a small percentage of a huge absolute number, is still a very big number. And we need always to remember how noisy can be perceived a few negative voices on internet. A few negative voices get amplified, hugely. IMO it's a very loud minority (in the big numbers), but they get to ruin many things, and many people. I did realize this when looking at reviews of products. Like with social media and people bullying someone, one needs to read between the lines. Even what seems to be a "bunch of people", in the global numbers it is... nothing. At the end of the day, personal criteria, being analytic and well, fair, is what can easily clear up all that noise. But it surely is incredibly upsetting to have to deal with that whenever one posts anything.... The witch hunt occurs actually with any gender, although it's being massive with women (due to the issues I mentioned of a bunch of individuals). And for some reason, people (of all genders) have found a new pleasure (it's a sad coping mechanism for their own frustration! nothing more...:o ) in that mass-bullying. This is one of the hugest flaws in our current society, globally, in all the freaking planet. And has a lot to do with the loss of personal, individual criteria, and the lack (maybe loss) of a lot more of self awareness, ethics and personal responsibility about one's acts. For example, they don't even realize the damage these hordes can make to one person (artist or not). Not the case with strong individuals (as the creator of this video), but yes with most people, who get cornered by a horde; some being dangerously sensitive to this. That, in my book has been always not just cruelty, but *a very coward act* , even more while the attackers do hide behind a screen and usual anonymity, while the abused person is showing her/his/their name, and even face, their truth, feelings, etc. Cowardice is the main characteristic of such attacks. If they knew, that all what they are doing (the bullies) is "broadcasting" that they are: envious, jealous, coward, insecure, fearful and immensely frustrated, they'd stop doing so, as it'd be hugely embarrassing for them. Edit: just typos (sorry).

Omg your hair 🎉🎉 I am a junior character designer looking to start in the industry😊
Great video🔥🔥🔥🔥
i never bully any young artists, we were all young and crap at drawing 😝😛 and they are just growing in their skills, i dont want to be the person who causes someone to give up art because i said something, criticism doesnt have to be mean, it can be helpful without taring down someone's art
Love ya "Meesh the Bad Demon" on the video thumbnail.😉
The second one hits hard!!!😭😭
Hello! I wanted to request a video theme: what should artist have in portfolio to go to CalArts or Sheridan? Thanks in advance!
I understand those points.
Yeah sounds problematic, thanks for sharing this useful info. ;)
I had an art dream once. It was murdered along time ago.
I AGREE with you a lot.
my pet peeve is that it don't matter that I'm good, why tf did I get good then, wtf were all these years for. Idc because I mean I like making art and chase my own personal goals but damn I've never naturally even gotten 100 likes without paying for it through ads or a repost bro. Im lying I did on reddit but it was pure unadulterated luck. Lame world out here. We not making it out the hood.
Did you cut your hair? Cause it looks shorter now. 🤔 It's very cute! ♥️👍😊
that comment at 4:55 seems like a troll post. got to learn to spot those and learn to completely disregard them.
I don't think it's a troll, my dad is exactly like that. some people just have stupid opinions
The hate on women in art is dumb too because if you go to art college its mostly women xddddd at least at mine.
How long have you been in to art?
But if it is somebody starting to shine (not solely in art... in anything) a) is closer to what they think is their potential possibilities, their reality b) they think they are easier to attack.
Im not really liking any of these social media apps for art. I should make my own social media app lol. I know how to.
Ur art is saved by ur face. Without it, no one would subscribe or watch. Make sure u avoid those wrinkles as much as u can.
LMAO
