  • Sea Fishing on Brixham Breakwater in Torbay, South Devon. Brixham is one of my favourite places and the fishing is pretty special too. During the daytime, great fun can be had with the spinner, lure and float, for species such as Mackerel, Garfish, Pollock, Wrasse etc. During the night, fishing on the bottom is also productive and you never quite know what you're going to catch...Whiting, Pouting, Conger Eel, Bull Huss, Bass, Bream, Rockling etc. When it comes to fishing Torbay, this is one of my favourite marks!
    Thank you for watching, it is very much appreciated. If you have any questions, feel free to ask, no problem.

    Another thoroughly enjoyable video. I too love Brixham as I spent a lot of holidays there in my youth. I fished the breakwater a bit but my favorite places were St Mary's Bay , a lovely little beach and Sharkham Point , both on the other side of Berry Head. You also set such a good example to others by returning most of what you catch and only keeping what you need.

    • @riversidewithme
      @riversidewithme  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you David, very much appreciated. Yes it's a great place, I try and get down there at least twice a year. I've fished Berry Head a few times but not the other two marks which you've mentioned...thanks for the info, I shall check these out when I'm down there next. I also like the rocky area which is the other side of the Harbour, towards Fishcombe Cove, I've had some good sessions there in the past. Cheers 👍👍

    We go to Brixham round about March and October, love the breakwater, Shoalstone beach and Battery gardens, catching Gars, mackerel on the float and lures, dogs and whiteing on the bottom. Used to fish the Quarry but too old to walk back up the hill now. Good video, well done on catch and release.

    Hi Gareth excellent video really appreciated your content mate I often travel with my family to Brixham but never fished it surprisingly enough! But I will now when was the video mate because the mackerel are normally a summer fish so if this was November time its strange they we're in in numbers or is it? Do they stay in longer around the Devon and Cornwall coastline
    Also it seems the bigger whiting may like the fish baits more then possibly worm baits

    • @riversidewithme
      @riversidewithme  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate, much appreciated. This was filmed mid October. At Brixham, I've had Mackeral throughout the winter and my best ones have been between November and January, despite the fact they're classed as a Summer fish. When it comes to Devon/Cornwall, they can be caught many months of the year, less so between February and April. Yeah the bigger Whiting definitely prefer the fish baits and they should be there until late January. Cheers for watching 👍👍

      Thank you David, I appreciate that and I'm pleased to hear that you're enjoying the videos. Yes I make all of my own rigs, I enjoy doing that. I would suggest popping to your local tackle shop and they will be able to provide you with all of the advice and equipment you require, as they will be familiar with the places you intend to fish. As you're just starting out, I wouldn't spend more than £100.00 on reel and no more than £120.00 on a rod, then you can see how you go. Cheers for watching 👍

    Thinking of trying the breakwater this week 14th October what species will be around mate? Is there water to fish all day as I’m travelling down to brixham from Chepstow for the day?

    • @riversidewithme
      @riversidewithme  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Andrew, all of the Summer species will still be around - Mackerel, Wrasse, Garfish, Pollock...so the lighter gear wil be fine for those during daytime. As for other species on the beachcasters, should be a few early Whiting about, although maybe a little early for the bigger ones, Pouting, Dogfish, Bull Huss and Conger. There is water all day off the breakwater, although it does drop (can fish either side) but I prefer to fish 2 hours before, 2 hours after and as for beachcasting tactics, I've always done better during the evening/night. Cheers 👍👍

    Fished goldcliff yesterday first time went to cods corner fished to the left in the bsy what's it like to the right of the steps where you park the car by the tea rooms

    • @riversidewithme
      @riversidewithme  ปีที่แล้ว

      To the right of the steps is like much of Goldcliff...can be great one day and poor the next. To the right there's an area known as The Marl...wait for the smallest of tides and you can walk out on the hard ground and fish 5/6 hours before high water. Good for the Cod in the winter 👍👍

    It's ok as a holiday, but to live here, not very nice to be honest. You have the Ferrell element that spoil the tranquility for all. Don't fish Sharkham point as cars get trashed when your away.

      Shame isn't it. Same with a lot of places where I live, nice to visit and look at but ruined by the minority and it seems to be getting worse. I was going to fish Sharkham Point but now I'll get dropped off instead of leaving my car there! Cheers 👍👍

    Hi Gareth yet another great video . It's nice to see someone catching fish for a change..
    Never fished brixham. But that could change this winter. Could you recommend a good tackle shop in the area.
    Keep safe and I am looking forward to your next video .all the best from the bedwas .blank specialist...

      Thank you Wayne, much appreciated. Year it's a different world down there, usually get a few fish which makes a nice change! Come late October there should be some nice Whiting off the breakwater. There's a good tackle shop in the harbour called Brixham Bait and Tackle, it's run by Graham and his son... excellent shop and very helpful too. Ha, the bedwas blank specialist, I like it! Although I wouldn't worry, I tend to blank more than most!! Cheers for watching 👍👍
