  • A quick video of 5 things that I don't like like about the Ford Explorer Sport. Overall it is an excellent vehicle so it was hard to pick out much I didn't like about it. Relax.

    The ONLY complaint I will ever have about Ford Explorer Sport is MOST of the vehicles in front of me slow down. I guess they're thinking I'm a cop 👮. 🤣🤣🤣🐸🐸Therefore, I leave a little early or else I'd be VERY late for work. 😉😉

    You lost me when you said it should be lower. It's an SUV not a car. It should be as high as possible and not sacrifice ease of entry, mileage, or any significant handling problems.

    Go buy a sports car if you want "exotic" style paddle shifters.

    1. I don't think complaining about the paddle shifters is fair, considering 99% of all vehicles have them mounted on the wheel, even many "sport" models.
    2. You can't tell if a tire is going to be good in the winter just by looking at the tread.
    3. 2 inches lowered??? Name any other competitor that has their SUV slammed from the factory.

      I do agree with you Jason S except you do have to admit that the tires that Ford puts on the Explorer could be better. I love my 17 Explorer Sport as well, but looking forward to replacing the tires for better tires.

      Jason S I can't find fault with it either. Incredibly nitpicky... driven the Police Interceptor Utility Ecoboost it's fantastic and the sport is very comfortable. Can't wait till they make it aluminum and throw the second gen 3.5 ecoboost with 375-400 go inside

    Lower the Explorer? Are you dude drunk? Its a freaking SUV why would you lower an SUV unless you wanna go HipHOP. I even think its needs to go higher to navigate rough terrain. The Carbon fiber wannabee looks cheap that is right and tires well you can buy a better tire than Hancock.

      BC437A Which is why I bought one, it's obviously reliable, otherwise it wouldn't be used as a cop car,in fact it's more reliable than the pilot and pathfinder and because people think I'm a cop,they drive sensibly, and not like maniacs. Honestly just got tired of people riding my bumper,swerving all over the road etc.

    Not a fanboy, but am a giant automotive nerd. Just acquired a 2017 Sport this evening, and have to disagree with everything negative that you say in regards. Your primary “complaints” are kind of ridiculous in things such as “the difficulty” to wire into the vehicle, the stock all season tires not good enough for snow, and recommending snow tires. The vast majority of conditions will allow a sufficient driver on the all season tires successfully accommodate with snowy conditions.

    I was somewhat taken aback by this critique. Two weeks ago, I purchased what I can only guess to be a more recent incarnation of the 2017 Explorer Sport. My only real displeasure has been with the owner manual which at times seems to be ambiguous with primitive-like diagrams and graphics that have left me scratching my head. Otherwise, I have found the vehicle to be made with quality materials and assembled together quite well. I will concede on the fuse box issue but that's about it. The paddle shift, in my mind is one of those novelty items on the vehicle that will seldom, if ever be utilized unless there's a need for down-shifting going down a hill. but hey, that's what the intelligent four wheel drive control is for. The Sync 3 interface is definitely an improvement over it's predecessor, Ford Sync, powered by Microsoft. The tires shown in the video are identical to those which my Sport came with and pretty much the same as the tires on my Lincoln MKS that I rode on for several years in rain, snow and ice with no problem whatsoever. They also provided a softer, smoother ride than the GoodYears that came with the MKS. So far, the Hankook tires have provided the same comfortable ride I experienced with the Lincoln. The carbon fiber trim inside doesn't look cheap and the black and charcoal leather seating is finished off with red stitching that really looks classy. i look forward to ten or more years of driving enjoyment with what I'll describe as a quality, attractive SUV.

    I've had my Sport since 2014. Love the vehicle. But am glad the OEM tires are about ready to replace. Looking forward to some really nice new high performance all season rubber. I also just bought an extra set of downsized (18') rims and snow tires. I will love the clearance as is and the new snow tires when I take it to the mountains this winter. Lower it by 2"? Are you nuts?

  • @Drones_Eye_View
    @Drones_Eye_View 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I would have three "dislikes" having only driven mine about 750 miles. The tires are the first but I'll see how they do this winter. The second is that the center console makes my leg room in the drivers seat too small. I hit the edge so I added a gel pad that makes it really comfortable. The third is a real nit...the fob is too big! Would love to be able to have an app on my phone to accomplish the entry/starting/locking etc.

  • @Michael0697
    @Michael0697 7 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    What? No, on an exotic car they put them on the steering wheel so you can reach it whilst turning.
    There's a lot hate professionally and in sports cars for column mounted paddles because with column mounted paddles they're out of reach whilst holding the wheel and steering. If anything, that's a MORE sporty thing to have it mounted on the steering wheel, now whether you like or dislike it is your own thing. You drive the car and you have your own personal preferences. Just wanted to point out that it not only costs Ford more to mount them to the steering wheel as far as wiring, R&D and individual cost is concerned, it's also the more favorable position among most enthusiasts because of its ability to turn with you.

    Just bought a '17 Sport. Couple things that I've noticed - 1) The engine is loud on the inside under load. Other vehicle is an Audi with their 3.0T and that thing is silky smooth and quiet compared to the 3.5 Ecoboost. 2) The dead pedal is in a really, really stupid spot. Way too close to the brake pedal. It's my wife's daily driver so it wasn't a decision maker when buying it, but I may have a tough time getting my feet comfortable if I'm driving on long trips.
    Love it so far otherwise though. We do not have the 2nd row buckets, but having 3 kids in car seats, I kind of wish we would've seeked that out. One of the kids has to get in through the back hatch unless we want to undo a car seat.

    I'm surprised that all of you that have a 2016 and up are not complaining of two things. 1. The key less entry pad panel keeps coming unstuck. It's held on by two face tape at the top that does not hold it for more than a week or two. Had it in twice to fix it, but it never held since they keep replacing the tape (stupid). I used a little silicone to seal it and it worked perfect. 2. The front of the roof racks plastic cap wont stay down. I have to push it down every damn day. This is on my 2016. Did they fix these on later models?

  • @joebtfsplk6697
    @joebtfsplk6697 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Wow! If those are the 5 worst things about the Explorer Sport, I'm glad I just picked one up!!! Living in the northern climes, I will, however, take heed of the poor snow handling capability of the tires - I've read some other reviews that they aren't the best in snow. But I guess the good news there is they only last about 35K miles, so they'll get replaced after one winter.

  • @davidmajor1508

    Ha. I read the title and came here to defend the Explorer because out of all the SUV's I've driven it is by far my favorite. However, after listening to your critique, I have to say I see where you're coming from even though I don't necessarily agree. Great review.

    I drive a 16 Limited and I agree with 1,2,4,5. Although I could settle for a stiffer suspension and not lower. I live the center speaker which only works in “surround sound” mode, it eliminates the best spot to put a navigation. In addition to all that I wish he horn didn’t blast every time I got out my truck while it was running, and I wish the navigation display was better; like google maps. Still, I love my truck.

    My only disappointment at the 17 Explorer Sport is the tired. They are noisy and harsh when the vehicle has been parked overnight. They are wearing out faster than any OEM Ford SUV tire I have had. (92 Explorer 00 Excursion 02 Excursion 06 Expedition etc. at 30k service I was told I needed new tires! I usually get 65 to 75k on first set. They pick tires now based on rolling resistance instead of long life. That makes Ford more compliant with fed emission standards. But causes most greenhouse pollution in that more rubber is harvested and more energy used by the outside sources not considered by EPA. My problem with the Explorer is it’s smaller cargo area as compared to my Expedition EL but it is 14k$ less than it too.

    2016 explorer sport , black on black ....I wired my escort 360 off the rear view mirror. easy spot for switched power. used blend mount and mirror tap.. I did lower mine with h&r springs 1.5 inches.. tinted windows 20% aFe intake. stage3 motorsports brake upgrade. 3bar map. 170° t-stat . 5star tune. this is how is should've came from the factory.

    • @robertwilliams1286

      I am considering a sport/platinum. How much did the engine mods cost in the end and did it effect fuel economy?
      I need a car for a growing family, but I refuse to sacrifice my love of driving sporty cars. I was thinking of going with some Livernois tuning.

    • @wt8826
      @wt8826 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Robert Williams ....well if your worried about price then buy a honda. other wise go to 5star for tunes. get a 160° t-stat. 3bar map . intake . new turbos. water meth kit. I think it's around 5k of stuff so far.
      Let me say this is for sure a fun truck. But some areas need help. I put on a stage 3 brake kit. h&r lowering springs to stiffen it more. still a good ride. and don't forget regular maintenance. also you will want to add a drain to the ptu and service it every 20k..

    • @robertwilliams1286
      @robertwilliams1286 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I agree the carbon looks cheap. Can't argree with lowering the explorer 2 inches. It's already a bit too low, 2 more inches and you might as well stick to a sedan in terms of capability. Also paddle shifters, I'd rather ford do without them on SUV. Really the only SUV that can pull off paddle shifters is MAYBE the Porsche Cayenne or the other Porsche SUV model..

    Fake carbon fiber sucks yes
    Hankook tires sucks too. Stick with goodyear bridgestones or michelin. Make the dealer change the tires or walk away from the deal.

    This i think is more of a shitty review of what you don't like. The paddle shifters in an automatic car or suv isn't any quicker by using the paddle shifters. I have a tuarus SHO and have used the paddle shifters twice haha. Complaining about the cheap carbon fiber look on chrome looking trim, quit nit picking. you obviously have no clue what you are talking about....paddle shifters? lets set aside the fact that there are about 20 high end sports car manufacturers who make cars and suvs, that put them on the steering wheel. ..but THATS WHERE THEY BELONG. Formula 1 cars....paddle shifters on the steering wheel...maybe you should trade your explorer sport in for an suv you can handle like an FJ cruiser....ever been to the track? obviously not....Are you a professional driver? obviously not...or you'd know when racing your hands are supposed to stay at 9 and 3 and never go hand over hand..never take your hands off the wheel to shift or you lose control of your vehicle in the corners..even if you have to cross them you DO NOT MOVE YOUR HANDS...why do you think formula 1 cars have a "square or bowtie" steering wheel?..basic driving skills you would know if you ever where taught how to really drive...there on the steering wheel because that makes sense

    The old Explorer is a legend. The new ones are a disappointment.

      Ha! The Gen 5 is by far the best looking, most powerful, and full featured version Ford has ever put out. The old Explorer is no "legend" in my book, garbage is more like it.
