    Video Description: Crazy morning on the water! This video served as a great example of how to fish the rock piles here at the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, while also serving as a cautionary tale.
    In terms of the fishing, the only caveat I’ll make to what’s said in the video is that metal jigs and other similar lures also work very well for jigging here. As to the rolling of Frank’s kayak, you really need to be careful out here. I’ve seen small boats nearly capsize with the waves that seem to come out of nowhere out here.

      Thanks William. I’m so lucky I never got in any serious trouble out there. The bay bridge is NOT the place for a sit-in kayak. I made it works but man that was unsafe 🤦‍♂️😂

    The bay is nice when its nice, but can get real ugly quick. I live on Kent Island and the storms come up without warning. Not a good place to be in a kayak. Awesome video.

    Another awesome video bro. Nice catching. You make it look easy. I give you props for going out there in your kayak. I'm even a bit wary when I go out there in my Outback. I'm glad Frank is okay. That's a pretty scary experience. That's why you should wear your PDF no matter what. Great stuff.

    Hey Kambo, MARsSPEED here. I used to post on BR and also I am on Fishbrain. Kinda funny I saw this today. I was actually about to put my Ascend 2016 FS 12t including Saltwater Trolling motor and Battery up for sale. Since I know you are an avid Fisherman, I know it would go to good use and I'll sell it to you everything for $550. I was going to list it at $650, all I ask is for an invite sometime. New Market, MD.

      Thanks much for the offer brother, but I won't be in the market for a another year until around the end of August, much as I'd like to have a quality sit-on-top. It's more or less penny-pinching till then :P

    I've kayaked fished there for years its hit or miss.It does get alot of fishing pressure but stripers are transient .I see alot of people fishing for perch there.New regs are 28" so good luck with that.Hope to get good runs of blues and mackeral comming through this year that would make it fun out there.I paddle a blue Ocean prowler kayak.

    I flipped mine early this year. It was real and scary. I reflipped it trying to get back in. I literally had to think to get back in it. I had to go up over the bow.. had pool noodles on my poles one stayed in the holder the other was floating. I lost my net, which could've easily had a noodle on it. ( but you never really think your going to flip). Also lost my phone which was the biggest bummer.. great video Steve!

    Sit on top is not self bailing when scupper holes are plugged with golf balls. Frank is in (on) the new Jackson Coosa FD. Very stable boat ( 12'-7" x 35" wide) and still went over. While you were cautioning novice yakkers about the bay waves I was thinking about how the Coosa would do in those waves. I am thinking on getting that boat and targeting the bay bridge for my first trip. Just then you said Frank went in the drink and I saw it was a Coosa when you paddled over. Might be the boat to look at when you upgrade. Good video and advice, Thanks.

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      ihunt66 thanks much!
      I’m not personally familiar with your kayak, but from what I’ve read the reviews are great. It appears to have great stability and features.
      My only concern is that it appears to be a sit-in. While acknowledging that I’ve been out there myself in a sit-in, it’s def a dangerous call. If you capsize out there, you’ll be pretty much unable to recover and will need a boat to pick you up (and have to hope one happens along). Definitely best to take a buddy with you out there.
      At the end of the day though you’re an adult and it’s your call, but def keep a careful eye out for large waves and current, as both can get nasty out there.
      At the time of this video I was using my Deeper, but you can likely get a much better sonar for cheaper by now. I’m in the market for one myself (since my deeper died) so I’ll make sure to update the channel when I select my new sonar 👍
      Thanks again for watching, hope this helps, and good luck out there!

    I've been here for photography, but never for fishing. (new angler, only a couple of months now) I'm going to be going this coming Saturday. Any suggestions for lures? I mostly do crankbaits, but I'm guessing all of my stuff won't go deep enough. I do have some jigs/chatter bait/spinners, and also some soft stuff.
    Thank you for your time, and excellent video! I was really happily surprised to come across it from Fishbrain!

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Boschert Thanks much!
      Is it the bay bridge you’re planning on hitting this coming Saturday?

    • @williamboschert723
      @williamboschert723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Kambotrout Actually it will be Sandy Point park.

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Boschert my go-to lures there are usually 4” - 6” Berkley Gulp Mullets on 1/2oz to 1oz jigheads (I’d go heavier if currents were very strong).
      Other lures I’d bring with me would be 4” - 6” jerkbaits and crankbaits in shad patterns, as well as shad-pattern topwater lures 3”-5”.
      I’d use a 3’ mono or fluoro leader to a barrel swivel to reduce line twisting.

    • @williamboschert723
      @williamboschert723 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Excellent, so my Brats and Whopper Plopper might be useful then. I don't actually have any jerkbaits, I'll have to get a couple.

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      William Boschert yessir, the plopper has performed there in the past, though jigging and small swimbaits tend to outperform on most days, with the jerkbaits shining when the trolling bite is on.
      If you have any more questions let me know and good luck!

    How often do you encounter boats crossing close by under the bay bridge? I plan on fishing the bridge soon since I’m pretty comfortable with my kayak skills now. I fished sandy point my first time out ever on a kayak in April but had no idea what’s I was doing and had no tools to find fish. I’m set up with a fish finder and some lures that I’ve alredy caught a 24” striper with so I’m excited to get out to where the stripers hang out. I’m just concerned about boats kickin up monster wake.

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Congrats on the striper! In terms of boat traffic, it varies greatly between week days and weekends. On week days, boat traffic is usually minimal. I may see 6-8 other boats fishing around me in about four hours of fishing. On weekends however, you'll see many more and have to be more careful.
      You'll also need to keep an eye out for the big cruise ships and tankers which come through the bay bridge area. The waves they cast off are sometimes large enough to capsize a small Jon Boat if you're not paying attention and the wave hits you at the wrong angle. I can't honestly say if there's a difference in their traffic from week days to weekends, but I'd estimate seeing about 2 - 8 of them on each outing.
      So long as you turn your nose into the oncoming waves, or are able to hide behind a large object that will break the wave, you should be fine. I do it often in a fairly small yak. Just keep your head, never panic, and think through any problems you encounter.
      If possible, definitely take a buddy with you out there in case you get into trouble. If you can't find a fishing buddy to go, check some of the Maryland Fishing meet-up sites out their like the Snaggedline forum. But at the very least, make sure you leave a family member or friend details on your location and the time you expect to be fishing so that they can raise the call for help if you're missing for too long.
      Other than that, good luck out there and tight lines!

    Thank you for the video Kambotrout. I recently moved here from San Antonio and have been fortunate enough to experience kayak fishing at the Bay Bridge. I plan on getting out to this spot this weekend, weather permitting. Is there any big differences you would do from this video in May to now being late September?

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven James First I’m glad to hear the video helps and thanks much for watching!
      The fishing techniques I described in this video are usually successful almost year-round. However, as the temperature in the baby drops, you begin to see a lot more top water action farther out from the rock piles, but in the same general vicinity.

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven James Good luck and let me know how it goes for you out there!

    • @stevenjames1681
      @stevenjames1681 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Will do. Looking at the forecast, it's looking promising. The conditions look similar to what you posted in the video, with a water temp just slightly higher. Keeping my fingers crossed. I'm curious on your thoughts on using white perch for bait. I keep hearing that spot are better, but I've seen you've had success with the perch. Do you have a preference? I plan on getting some live spot right before jumping in, but I'm curious on your take.

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Steven James I think spot are better, but only slightly so.
      The only drawback to white perch is that their dorsal spines can make removing them from the striper a real hassle. Not a big deal when catching and harvesting, but defiantly an ordeal for you and the fish when catching and releasing.
      Could be negated by trimming off the dorsal spines I suppose.

    • @stevenjames1681
      @stevenjames1681 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Well, for some reason my outing was not successful. I did catch a couple large channel cats. I'll keep at it and try again this weekend if the weather permits. A bad day of fishing still beats a good day at work......

    Great video man, just had a quick question. Where'd you get that spray skirt you're using? I haven't seen really anybody else use one while kayak fishing but from your videos it looks pretty nice to have and work with the fish in the boat. I'm about to go on a trip to the bay next month debating whether or not to buy one or make some sort of one. What's your thoughts on it does it really help being out there or does is feel cramped sometimes?

    • @KambotroutFishing
      @KambotroutFishing  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cole Bushee thanks much Cole! Below is a link to the type of spray skirt I was using in this video, though it’s not the same exact brand.
      www.rei.com/product/823477/seals-splash-deck-spray-skirt?CAWELAID=120217890000758701&CAGPSPN=pla&CAAGID=16033111960&CATCI=pla-316326148769&cm_mmc=PLA_Google&product_id=8234770001&ad_type=pla&channel=online&partition_id=316326148769&target_id=pla-316326148769&brand_flag=&adgroup_id=16033111960&campaign_id=186995560&location_physical=9007913&cid=54044271280&network=g&network_type=search&device_type=m&merchant_id=1209243&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIg473k9mf6QIVVAiICR3qDwBCEAQYEyABEgJS0fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
      If you’re using a sit-in, I very highly recommend using one. And to be honest, making the trip out to the bay bridge in my sit-in kayak was not the most responsible decision in my life 😜
      Had I ever capsized out there, I’d have lost everything and been floating until someone happened to notice me and pick me up (since there’s nowhere out there to beach yourself aside from the rock islands). Honestly, you’d be lucky to make it out alive, especially in colder water temps.
      The tide also rips through there and large tankers can throw off some serious wake. Then you have the careless boaters who speed through there and could literally kill you.
      In short, it’s a great place to fish but it’s also very dangerous, especially in a sit-in. If you go out there, maintain situational awareness at all times for boats, waves, and tidal rip, and always wear your PFD 👍
