I replaced the crankshaft position sensor 2 years ago with a Mopar. But even mopar will fail if the line gets severed or compromised in any way. I'll definitely check this with my continued troubleshooting. Good video! 👍
Just got a 00 jeep as a project and took it to a lake this weekend found your vid thanks for the tips mine died on me thought it was overheating turn the key dash lights come on but motor doesn’t won’t crank start
Not saying this is the "cure all" but any exposed wiring could cause this issue, or worse!! And I'll openly admit me saying "I'm gonna look for melted wiring" was not on my list of troubleshooting. Thanks for watching
Yeah I was, when it would just die, I started unplugging the PCM connections and it would reset itself, what I had found was that in my case the crank sensor would send a ground fault (becasue the bare wire would ground to the exhaust) to the PCM (OBD 2 systems control your grounds for most of your P0 codes) shutting it down, replaced that sensor and have been driving with that same sensor since the video. Still have the old one (repaired the wiring) and I would use it if need be, to avoid going to the parts department. I don't just throw parts at something in hopes that it will magically fix itself. I troubleshoot, diagnose, and if a part fails I would like to know why it failed. Not because I think Im a genius, Its because Ima cheap a$$. You should try it, it may save you some money.
Oh buck I am retired I spent 29 years of my Career in a Dodge Dealership Tune Up Dept. & since 16 years old all I did professionally was Tune Up work. Literally every car I worked on entailed diagnosis & averaged 15 cars a day throughout my 38 year career fixing cars. I pride myself on the fact 9.9 out of 10 cars I worked needed 1 or NO parts < wire repairs R not parts > .. Bona-fide real Tune Up Man here.
My 94 YJ has a new crank shaft sensor and still will just shut off while going down the road. 5 or 6 times I've been pulled home because of this problem. It has no fire but come morning it has always started right up like nothing is wrong
I would meticulously go thru and make sure there are no bare wires (causing it to jump to ground) under the hood that could be causing a direct ground issue, I do know that Chrysler from at least 92 on would send the 12 volt ground on things like injectors, sensors, coils through the ecm that's what causes the shut down mode (for protection) I do also know that their ecm's are known to fail. Hoping that's not your case. These do run very hot so could be the same thing, where it's meting the wire jacket down exposing wires, then when it sits overnight it cools and hardenes back up
I never had any issues with a cold start, it would start right up, mine would be while driving, but that's not to say it wouldn't be the issue. I believe I have read other people experiencing your issue. Hopefully you get it tracked down
I know this is 8 months past, if U R still having issues? Have U replace the inline fuel filter < if it has 1 I do not know what year vehicle U have > anyhow try cycling the key a few times B4 U crank her & see if she starts 1st piston up like she should.
No, if yours is starting up run a little then die with the key flashing, you don't have the right key. Factory gray keys have the chip in them (black keys do not), if your using a black key (say from wal-mart) that will cause it to start and die. It has to do with factory anti theft, some have em some don't.
No, the issue would just come out of nowhere, sometimes I wouldn't even have an issue, that's what made it hard to troubleshoot, but I can definitely see how rain/moisture/humidity could effect an electrical issue.
The sensor described in this video is the- Crankshaft Position Sensor, some call it a CPS, it's located on top of the transmission bell housing. But this would hold true for any sensor that possibly has a bare wire shorting to ground
No codes, no CEL, as it warmed up and melted the plastic, the bare wires on the sensor would ground out and cause the pcm to freak out and just shut down
Dealing with same issue now. Thanks for posting this.

Same deal with my 2001 TJ. Intermittent stalling, very frustrating. Mine turned out to be the aftermarket crank pos. sensor that went flakey when hot.
Thanks for a great video. Carry On Sir!

... U were leaning tward the PCM, ... Parts Departments love U 😂

Do you think crank sensor or fuel pump becouse get the full discooncted from inject theress no fuel going

Mine has issues during the morning where it cranks no starts. Takes 3 turns usually until it starts. Wonder if this is the issue or the starter.

Did you discovered what the problem was?
@@Cibas8 replacing the ignition lock cylinder really helped.

Would your key light come on when you had this problem?

Did you have an issue with crank no start if it was raining too?

What was the sensor called

Dang I changed my fuel pump and computer I’m gonna be made if that my problem lol
Did you get any codes?
