Lol, I've been using cellphone as a desktop since the HTC Evo Supersonic. Once it was rooted, you could use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard; it came with a microHDMI port already.

@@seanvaughn7566 it looks like it should be able to use a mhl adapter (I tried to verify, but mhl sure wouldn't load for me). You can get a Bluetooth keyboard from eBay(alas, they don't make new ones much anymore) and a logitech bluetooth mouse (mind that doesn't need a USB dongle)

This really is a great way to use your cellphone. Theres alot of things on my phone that I could do way easier and faster...like coding and web development and working with some games and apps and websites while using a keyboard and mouse. I bought this 1000$ galaxy 20s. And it's more powerful than most topnof the line computers today. So..I blue tooth a keyboard, mouse, and mirror on my big screen tv....and boom...you have a top of the line pc.
And yet Microsoft did it first and better. Currently writing this from my Lumia 950 XL using continnum. It only misses the windowed apps, and yet being a "dead" OS it still works like a charm. Even better, it can work wirelessly with that true desktop experience. This device has become my daily PC, so I only use my power hungry Core i9 when needed. for daily tasks like browsing, mail stuff, music, videos some picture and video editing and even Office productivity this thing is fine. Sadly Nadella thought this was a waste of time... seems the rest of the world though otherwise and decided to catch up

My camera got damaged and ordered a couple, to have a spare one, a new screen because AMOLED burn a few new batteries, cause it's the last flagship that could swap batteries without problem. First and better? What exactly are you talking about? My iPad mini 1st gen I bought in 2012 has been connecting to my TV through the lightning to HDMI adapter ever since without fail. I still use it today for video to watch TV shows and movies regularly on the TV. I would also add that the previous connection ( 30 pin connecter) had the same type adapter. Android phones around 2010 had some that had the mini HDMI plug on them and could connect directly to a TV or monitor. So first and better, no Microsoft didn't but they did do a good job. I had several Lumia 8, 8.1, and 10 smartphones and they where very smooth in their operation.
@@csumme7 iOS only mirrors what you see in the iPad screen. Continnum is like having a separate screen with a Windows 10 desktop experience interface. Besides, I can share that second screen wirelessly by Miracast and works like if it was wired. I know many devices could share their screens ages ago, but ok only what you had in the device's screen. Continnum or what the rest of manufacturers are doing is different, cause you get a different interface with the same device.

If you are (still) building a robot, get an arduino or it's variant. Phone processors are dedicated to do many things so they use electricity real fast. A small arduino can use as small as 50mA so it will run for very long periods
All flagship Samsung phones have DeX starting with the S8 from 2017, except all the Z Flip phones (because reasons), and I think all flagship tablets since the Tab S4 from 2018. I think there's only three flagship Motorola phones that have Ready For, which is better than DeX in most ways, but not all. Wouldn't it be nice if all phones could do this?
I've been running my laptop like a desktop for years. I would really like to be able to do similar with my smart phone. This video was posted almost two years ago and I've wondered how things have changed? Also, if I want the simplest approach what type of phone should I buy? Here is a list of the connections that I remember this morning from my laptop - wonder which I can easily do from my phone and how to do it? Ideally, when my phone dies, is lost or I change services, I would like to easily swap in the next one. I run my laptop closed as I think you may do, with external monitor, full size keyboard, mouse, printer, external speakers and USB drive connected (where I store most of my local data) WIFI and ethernet internet connection. My Android tablet died in 2019 so I've been looking at this kind of solution for making my Android smartphone more useful. In addition to the solution discussed in this video, there are also devices called "lapdocks" than combine a monitor, keyboard, touchpad and battery. Currently, the Nexdock 360, Uperfect X, and Eviciv Lapdock are available from the manufacturer's websites. I think all 3 connect via cables so they may not be a good option for everyone (as mentioned in the video not all smarthones support this).
Running Android on a tablet was a fail, I believe only a handful of OEM's even bothers now. Setting up something like this seems to be a pain and very restrictive. Buy a Chromebook that can run Linux and Android apps, then you have a nice small package that has portability and more usability. Continuum was an awful fail by MS and DeX may have a tiny tiny minority of fans, but running your work off your phone is very restrictive and in a day and age where space in homes are less and less, a Chromebook or computer offer far more for similar performance and price.

I love this concept, but could I run TurboTax or QuickBooks from a setup like this? I like to catch up on my business stuff when traveling and would rather pack a small monitor, keyboard & mouse vs carrying a laptop, because I hate using laptop keyboards. Before someone says "just use a laptop ya dummy!", I should emphasize that when I'm working on financials, I pretty much have to have a full sized keyboard with a proper numeric keypad; laptop keyboards, even the bigger ones, don't cut it for this type of work.

When I was trying connect mouse and keyboard to android I realized it's very primitive OS. No right click button and many keyes didn't work, especially special symbols for my language so it was just useless. I had to install speciall app to make it workable but it was still far from how keyboard works in real PC with windows.

A nice idea, I wondered if we could have plug in ram a while back If that’s the question, I don’t think there’s a program or driver that will do that, mostly because even if possible, the added wiring, the top speed of usb, etc. would make that ram pretty slow, not as fast as virtual swaps in and out of memory from the hard drive You can probably set the phone as your pagefile with some hacks, but this won’t speed your computer up since the pagefile isn’t really for swapping all data in and out of memory, it’s only used for new information that doesn’t have an existing image on the disc. .. No i'm from Pakistan.. And I do understand Arabic a bit. Not all..

They do overlap but some functionally is much better suited to one or the other depending on what software a company predominantly uses. However when it comes to similar hardware specs, pc is almost always less expensive.

Well obviously. Android is made for touch. Not for keyboards. But Samsung tablets allow for both Dex and a good keyboard.
