Most Americans still think that the Philippines is a “troubled” country, with a lot of crimes, terrorist, poor people living in the streets(homeless), beggars, and other “bad” images. I am a Fil-Am and explain to them that Philippines is now very peaceful, people are nice and caring! I told everyone to go visit and find out themselves the truth about my birth country!! Rick is very right in everything he said!!Guys, I respect you both being there knowing the true image of the Philippines!!🇵🇭🇺🇸👍

@@islandersglory7972 I got you, nobody in the world can fix the problems of poor people. That’s how it is, even the riches countries still have less-fortunate people, homeless, and other problems. This is how the world was made. If there’s no poor, the world will not work. It has to have someone to balance it, someone to work, someone to serve the rich.

I'd pushed this subscribe button to support you bro. And I was born in Davao city. Some foreign people who are thinking about the terrorists in Mindanao and that was true but not in the place of Davao, BUTUAN or Cagayan de oro city. Some not good perceptions from some people who are not telling the truth and the true story about Mindanao. DAVAO much safer than Manila, less crimes in the streets. Most importantly you don't do anything bad or else don't drink much and make some bad attitude through your surroundings. Make your neighbors friend because that's the Filipino culture my friend. Make your days happy here in the Philippines. Good luck brother.

I live in South Cotabato, was born and educated in Davao City and work in Sultan Kudarat now. Google both provinces plus Davao so you know that I know what I'm talking about.
There are times when things get a little "unsafe" mostly because of hard times like drought, poltical unrest, etc. But for the most part, being watchful over current events will generally keep you safe.
Mind you. I travel everyday so I'm used to checkpoints and find it comforting even. I
School shootings aren't a usual thing. People usually aren't rude or KARENS over here. We tend to give fireigners a bit more consideration because they aren't used to life here. Unlike the US, where neighbors quarrel over privacy walls. You can borrow salt, sugar abd rice from a neighbor and even gjve you food when they have extra.
      Its night and day..

Your guest from Miami is right in his observation of the widespread poverty in Manila. It very much in your face here and the level of poverty here is not the same in the US. Our poor have Bicycles, Cell Phones, and in many instances they can and do receive a small monthly stipend from the County Governments etc. In the Philippines that support option does not exist. The salient point in all conversations about the Philippines is Filipinos have had a lifetime of experiences getting used to their way of life. Western people, including expats have essentially a cultural shock and adjustment period compressed as adults; in short order how to navigate the landscape.. Philippine culture is based on Asian values which stresses Respect and getting along. Confucianism spread its values throughout all of Asia. We certainly could learn much from the Filipino Culture on how to live a more harmonious existence. So perspective matters a lot in how we value the different aspects of life in the US and Asia. My knowledge is based on boots on the ground starting in 1974, Thailand, in the Philippines also 1974 for the first time and much much more in South East Asia living and working on average of three years in each locale.Been married to my beautiful and wonderful Filipino wife for many decades.

Most of my time and travels have been to Davao and I have always felt safest in Davao. Be it Duterte or presumed DDS, people follow the rules and law more closely imo down in Davao.
My first trip there I was still in the military and there was a travel advisory against US citizens and military personnel to Mindanao at that time but once I did my own research about Davao I could see clearly it was set apart from the extremist issues that in the past clouded Mindanao. The only downside I see to Davao is I do feel “boxed in” in regards to just getting on a scooter and going hours away on an adventure. As my wife states, it’s not the safest idea for me to go south or northwest of Davao. So that basically leaves me with only straight up north or the ocean to the east lol.

You may know by now that Kulas and Kumander Daot go around the whole of Mindanao on a motorbike and they are completely fine. They even go to Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur (the Muslim areas in mainland Mindanao) and they are perfectly fine. It is the islands of Tawi-Tawi and Basilan that are really the dangerous parts of Mindanao. The irony is that they are not even part of mainland Mindanao.

We just need I guess who can guide us.we live in lanao del Norte part of Mindanao Iligan city.i hope you can advise me to have some knowledge or input about business strategies.so when i retire i can have something to do back home. Just my opinion, though. Now, what I also find fascinating about the culture is it is a mix of the western ideal of the self and the eastern ideal of the good of the community before the individual. All well and good except with that, you also take the good along with the bad.

Hearing you two talking about being comfortable to have the so called life that's so different from where uve been from , it's like I'm feeling a little scared of what my country would become. We do really appreciates foreigner settling and having to experience the mundane life we have here, but then our culture seemingly fades seconds by the day. Although respect still stands out among the most cherished attitude we have but then we cant deny that the more we become modern to accommodate foreigners we are Lossing our very own ways of living. It's not negative but a perspective that maybe one day those traits will no longer be widely observe by locals.

Very interesting perspective. I never thought too much about how foreigners living in the Philippines may impact the culture because the Philippines has seemed so monocultural in comparison to the US where there is so much diversity from around the world. But I can see where you are coming to from. But I tend to think that Filipino culture has, and will continue to be, impacted more by popular culture in social media, movies, and TV shows. What do you think?

Dumaguete has lots of foreigners (Americans, European, Koreans, few Russians, etc.) living there more than in any other cities in the Philippines, but some Americans don't want to congregate with their fellow Americans. Some of them left for another Philippines cities because they were saying too many Americans in Dumaguete, and it has lost its prestige and the prices of almost everything (even food) went up sky high because of the expats. Dumaguete is a small city, dubbed as the "city of gentle people" and it's also called a university town as it has four or five universities for a small city, with a population of 135, 000 inhabitants.
