Great Video! There's a reason the platform numbering at Diamond Creek is quirky. It's because Platform 2 was only built in 1994, and prior to the duplication in 2023, was only used during peak times to allow trains to cross. Clearly they decided to keep the original platform as Platform 1, whilst the new, lesser-used platform became Platform 2.
Even worse - I remember they used to display huge signs "Avoid High Street" on EastLink. Apparently referring to some substances use. Confusing drivers not to take High Street exit :lol:
They put in some really bad replacement lights, but they also break frequently and even when they are working, they create a checkerboard pattern of light since they're way too low to the ground and clearly not fit for purpose.
I also take platform 14 if I feel like taking a train home. Platform 14 looks dingier than other platforms. I don't like it. I used to live in North Melbourne and had avoided the Werribee/Williamstown line despite being the direct line to it because of the lights. I'd take Upfield, Sunbury or Craigieburn instead.
Never knew the 86 and 96 were at one point run by double-decker buses! Very grateful they're trams now because I would NOT cope trying to get to work in the city by bus! I love this video so much, thanks for making it!
9:35 Fun fact Williamstown pier used to be one of the main ports of Melbourne, and is where alot of the first generation of Victorian steam locomotives where delivered and later assembled in Williamstown workshops (predecessor to Newport). The workshops where located in the open grassland where the line once was. Which means without that nub of the line Victoria wouldn't have had railways, and this video wouldn't have existed.
Brings back memories of the Connex lady voice... "Now arriving at Upper Ferntree Gully. This train will terminate at Upper Ferntree Gully" when your train was supposed to go all the way to Belgrave
Great video. Got a few more for you. The only Station in Toorak is Heyington. Hawksburn is in South Yarra and Toorak is in Armadale. Morradoo is the least used station in Melbourne. The Route 78 and the Route 82 are the only two tram routes that don't go into the city. You can see Flagstaff Station from the western end of platform 4 at Melbourne Central. It's possible to get off the train at Willison on the Alamein line and run to Riversdale and get on the same train you got off.
The two longest tram routes in Melbourne are the 75 Vermont South and 86 East Bundoora, however it has been speculated that these could be further extended to Knox Shopping centre for the 75, and Hawkstowe railway station for the 86 (via the newer housing estates deviating west of Mill Park and terminating perpendicular to Plenty Road)
Looking at a map I can see the logical route for the 86 would be the "Plenty linear reserve" (where Plenty road turns east) and continue in a northerly direction to terminate at the Eastern end of the Plenty Valley Shopping Centre (and South Morang Station).
I used to take the city-loop counter-clockwise every now and then, ages ago, and recently since I haven't in a long time I just thought "I guess I never get on that service anymore" lol.
The reason Diamond Creek is numbered the way it is since platform 2 was built on 7 Jun 1994. After it was built, the majority of trains would only use the existing platform 1 in both directions, however when trains crossed the platforms would differ depending on the time of day and direction. On 30 Apr 2023 after the completion of the Hurstbridge line upgrade, the crossing loop was extended, meaning up trains from Hurstbridge could only travel through platform 2 at Diamond Creek.
I like random facts, and I'll add an extra detail - Fairfield Station in Brisbane now looks completely different as it was fully rebuilt and was finished in 2023. It used to be my home station.

The problem with Diamond Creek is it got two platforms before it got two tracks. Originally all City trains and most Hurstbridge trains would depart from platform one, while only some Hurstbridge trains would depart platform two in peak times. Now that they have upgraded to double track they had to switch city departures to platform two has it is on the left hand side. What is really frustrating about the ‘upgrade’ is that 1. the newly renovated platform 2 still only has an entry and exit right smack bang into an unfriendly pedestrian carpark when they could have easily connected it to the ‘station shopping’ shopping centre. The centre walkways are under a metre from the platform and 2. After all the upgrades and double track Diamond Creekians still have to wait an hour for trains most of the day which for most make it unviable as a transport option.
I think the main reason the shopping centre doesn't have a direct connection is because trolleys would end up on the tracks. At least the hour waits are night time only and its mostly 20s and 40s during the day

Box Hill Station has a completely abandoned train platform (platform 1) that somehow still has billboards to sell you stuff. Of course. The tram on Nicholson st, between St Vinnies hospital and Exhibition Gardens, USED to not be powered by overhead electric, but was pulled by a cable, dug into the street. I think they changed it to electric just before WW2, but the cable is still under the street. The indoor depot on the corner of Nicholson and Gertrude still has some of the controls int there. I think that was where the motors that pulled the cable used to be.
as a point cook resident, i fell like Williams landing is so close it might as well just be considered point cook station. and half of the bus routes from there go through point cook, but they all suck.

Sunbury line with the HCMT would like a word with you, in addition to the X'trampolines 2.0 set to roll out by 2025 for testing. Seimens and x'traps when both were initially ordered/began service, occurred at a similar time)
I think Ringwood East is named after an actual direction while the others are just the position in relative to the central of the suburb. Also Yarra Trams could just that stadium Docklands Stadium, which is the alternative non-commercial name. Also the Bunbury Street tunnel is not freight only.
My mind blew realising Ringwood East was the only station that had the direction after the name. I knew it was different but thought there had to be another one like it.

Dont know if you said this, but fun fact, when the peninsula link was built, provisions to allow the closed Mornington line to be reopened were made.
The only provisions is that there is a decent bridge space over the disused section of rail, allowing for double track.

as a point cook resident, i fell like Williams landing is so close it might as well just be considered point cook station. and half of the bus routes from there go through point cook, but they all suck.

I think Ringwood East is named after an actual direction while the others are just the position in relative to the central of the suburb. Also Yarra Trams could just that stadium Docklands Stadium, which is the alternative non-commercial name.
Also the Bunbury Street tunnel is not freight only.
My mind blew realising Ringwood East was the only station that had the direction after the name. I knew it was different but thought there had to be another one like it.
We need a branch line from Pakenham to Pakenham Upper to to give Ringwood East some competition. And to have the station with the funniest name.
