I am always happy to see a new video from Tim. It is just like a grandpa telling you a story from the old days and all the things he had experienced back then. This is good for me because I have never known my grandfather. He died a month before my birthdate, he was around 57 years old when he died. It is just like filling the last piece of the puzzle for me haha :) Thanks Tim.

I believe its the "Mach-Dvorak Phenomenon" Tim was describing at the end. When you put your sunglasses over one eye you reduce the illumination in that eye which effects how quickly your brain processes the image. Resulting in an "interocular delay" of a few hundredths of a second. Each eye sees a different time, thus timescope.

OH MY GOD!!! As a kid in the early 1970's, I had "The Magic Mirror Book" and I loved to play with it! I had totally forgotten about that book until I saw it in this video!

      Where to get one?

    • @BlackburnBigdragon
      @BlackburnBigdragon 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@justimagine2403 I'm assuming that it's long out of print. I remember that I got it from one of those Scholastic book catalogs that they used to give us in grade school. I got mine probably around 1975 or 76. It had a cardboard mirror, and it was a little like a puzzzle. It would say like, find the clown, or find the person. And you would have to hold the mirror at a certain angle on the picture to find the item. As a kid, I used to like moving the mirror all over the pictures, making strange shapes and moving the mirror around, making the shapes and stuff move. I was 5 or 6. That was entertainment back then. I can't find the book online. I looked. Like another book I loved from that time period, "Amazing Monster Mazes", it seems long out of print and lost to time. Those two books were my favorite strange activity books when I was a kid. "Amazing Monster Mazes" had some really great, and goofy artwork that put it a cut above most kids' activity books at the time. Just look at these pictures: secretfunspot.blogspot.com/2008/10/amazing-monster-mazes.html

    "FACE BLENDER"
There needs to be a _Warehouse 13_ version of that thing, one which actually _makes copies_ of someone else's facial features and then somehow magics those features onto your face.
I want to say that perhaps the CIA developed it, but it didn't work quite right--if you didn't line it up just right, the transfer would end up horrifying. The first few test subjects ended up with a squodgy mess of their own features and the other person's features, and, at the time of development, there wasn't a way of reversing it, so into W-13 it went.

    Nobody, really?
The one-eye-darker-than-the-other 3D effect is called the Pulfric effect, used by the BBC a couple of times, probably most notably in the Charity episode of Doctor Who called Dimensions in Time. 3rd Rock from the Sun also did a 3D episode.
The effect relies on parallax on-screen - that is, objects moving from one side to the other, slower or faster dependent on how far away from the viewer you want them to appear (Imagine looking out of a train window - closer objects whizz by, whereas trees in the distance are much more sedate). The simplest way of achieving this regularly is for the camera to rotate around the target, or to use straight-line tracking shots. If the screen image is static for any length of time, the 3D effect is lost.
The glasses work because the darker image is processed by the brain slightly more slowly than the brighter counterpart. This, combined with the lateral movement of the objects on-screen, means the two images that are combined at any moment are slightly different, in a way that happens to (nearly) match what would be seen if it was an actual 3-Dimensional image being seen through the two eyes.
The technique was very different, because it allowed 3D images to be viewed in full colour, didn't require a special camera to make the film, and the image still made sense to non-3D viewers without glasses (a failing of the then standard red/blue anaglyph method). Unfortunately the requirement that the images was continuously moving made the 3D effect difficult to maintain, and it was just a novelty.

I had a pair of these newer spy glasses, probably even the exact same design, got them from Donald Duck magazine in early 00's. It's cool that by looking at the front no one could tell there are any mirrors, because these were half mirrors so they saw only a bit darker area. Unfortunately I wouldn't wear them and become a top spy, because everyone told me I looked ridiculous with them...

tim here in canada and the states we call them 2 way mirrors not half mirrors so if you want them go on google and search 2 way mirror and there is even a company I found that sells 2 feet by 100 feet for a resonable price and they come in 70% opacity and 50% opacity meaning their harder to see through the back but they reflect more light on the opposing side. they sell them to replace outer windows on houses apperently.

My guess at the time scope is that because light slows down when going though something of a higher refractive index, like the glass lense of the sun glasses, the waves coming into the covered eye take slightly longer to that eye than the uncovered eye. Though I don't imagine the effect is very appreciable.

I'm gonna say that because the lense is convex, object appear smaller and father away, much like a rear view mirror.

Hey camera man! Can you cooperate with Tim a bit more? You could show us the effects by getting closer or at least zooming.

would have been nice to actually see all of these, instead of only you describing it...
I understand that some of these need to use both eyes, that's fine.
But there are several that don't, and they still not showing them.

We need to start thinking about the big questions
Does the cameraman work for tim?
Or does tim work for the cameraman

I would not recommend scraping the silver off the back of a mirror, in most cases it's poisonous silver nitrate.

I like those toys which alter your perception but I was not able to find them online. Does anyone know what they are called or can provide a link.

the "time scope" effect seems to be caused by the dark lens on one side causing a slight delay in the light photons reaching one eye.

is it a timescope because it affects the "exposure" of the eye on the darker side? i never knew eyes had exposure tho..

Did Tim have some dental work done, or is there something wrong with the mic/audio?
