    Probably the best brush painted 1/72 model I've seen on YT. Well done

    I've seen a bunch of these specific to Airfix's Mki Spitfire. This is the best one, and actually I've already sent it 'round to first time modelers who are starting with this kit. Very well done!

    This is how I plan to do it. And use oils to fade paint with white, dot filter, exhaust stains and dirtier underside.

      @joekmodels  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Awesome, I’m a big fan of using oils for the weathering before applying the final dull coat. I find it to be nicely realistic and fairly forgiving as long as taking precaution against fingerprints.

    Brilliant job, we just assembled the same model today with my 6 year old son, his first model, not as nice as yours but watching this vid has given me some guidance for next time

      Thank you! I’m glad you learned a few points on it. I don’t see a lot of videos on hand painting models, and you can certainly achieve great results with it. I’m really excited your 6 year old got his first model under his belt! It’s such a great hobby and brings back memories of building them with my own father when I was little.

    Great job! It's a lovely model only let down by the poor canopy fit. Airfix seem to have a problem with ill fitting canopy's - the Me109 e3 being another.

      Agree 100%. It can be overcome but I had to experiment back then coming back to the hobby the best methods. Appreciate you checking out the video! I more recently built the 1/48 Tamiya version on my channel, and that I consider to be the culmination of what I learned on these earlier builds.

    Wonderful build I am just starting my first plane in 50 years. Please can I ask what was the make of brush with container you used for the black wash inside the fuselage. I would like to get one, but don't know what they are called.

      Tamiya panel line wash 👍 good luck and enjoy your build

    Hand painting, excellent. A flat brush may have given better coverage on the under paint, and a round end one less edge the camouflage, perhaps?

    • @joekmodels
      @joekmodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      For sure, if I had to do it again, I would go that route. Thanks for checking out!

      @@joekmodels Right if you OK that that's what I'll do when I resume making models - good to know that airbrush is not necessary.

    • @joekmodels
      @joekmodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@FiveLiver Most will use a flat brush for large flat areas. I like using a rounder tip when I get to the areas where two colors would be meeting (Underside lighter color to top darker color) so I can control the line. I think it comes down preference or using a combination of the two. The most important thing is to have the paint thinned really well to avoid brush strokes, and not to remain in the same area for too long. It may take several layers to get a nice smooth color finish. You certainly do not need a airbrush for good results on most projects. Hope that helps, good luck to you!

      @@joekmodels thanks for all that - I'm encouraged.

    Well done! But brush paint. I can never do it. Thick, brush strokes is what I wind up with!

    • @joekmodels
      @joekmodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that used to happen to me all the time. I just make the paint really thin with water or thinner and do multiple coats to eliminate brush strokes as much as possible. It looks rough the first 2 coats, but as you build on those it looks better. Thanks GSR!

    Nice build! What colours did you use for the interior?

    • @joekmodels
      @joekmodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I used interior green (mix of 2 parts flat yellow and 1 part flat green), leather brown for the seat, aluminum and black. I have an early video where I document it a little more if you want to check that out. Go to around the 6 minute mark.

      @joekmodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The yellow stuff is milliput, I like it because it becomes rock hard but it is moldable with water. Thanks for watching Javier!

    Awesome job - was gonna ask do I or should I primer 1/72 ?

    • @joekmodels
      @joekmodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      You don’t have to put primer on but it will take you a lot more coats of paint. I found over time that I prefer to have a primer on or in the case of this video I sprayed it with a bare metal silver spray so that I wasn’t painting directly on the plastic. I think putting primer on is also important because it allows you to see how well you’ve done the bodywork so if you’re filling and sanding what might not be aware of areas that need additional work until the primer goes on. Lastly I like to use a primer because if I’m using weathering technique it makes the overall paint finish a lot more durable too washes and rubbing with cotton buds and such. So it’s up to you but for the way I do it I prefer to use a primer or an underlying coat of some sort.

    Can I know what paints that you used for the camouflage?

    • @joekmodels
      @joekmodels  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      XF 52 Flat earth for the brown, the green I'm pretty sure I used XF 61. The Tamiya kit I'm doing now calls for XF-62:5 + XF-61:1
